The North West Italy / Piedmont/Lake Maggiore region
Lake Maggiore is located in North-eastern Piedmonte and represents the second largest lake in all of Italy. Close in proximity to the Alps, Lake Maggiore serves as a boundary between the Piedmont and Lombardy region. This area is one of Italy's best kept secrets and could easily be considered one of the most beautiful places in the world. The climate of the lake area is semi Mediterranean with beautiful vegetation and garden.
The bustling city of Milan lies only 45 minutes away by car.
Verbania / Premeno area
Premeno is a small tourist village that boasts, among other attractions, a 9-hole golf course, a small ski area and two restaurants. The village has 5 hotels, a beautiful municipal villa with a wonderful park, a cinema, various tennis courts (the second clay tennis court in Italy), two groceries, a butcher’s, a post office, a news dealer, four restaurants and many bars. The nearest swimming pool is at Vignone, at about 5 minutes drive from Premeno. Lake Maggiore and Verbania are about 15 minutes drive from Premeno.
Verbania is a town with about 35.000 inhabitants and many beautiful attractions, including Villa Taranto and its prestigious botanical gardens. From the last week in August to the third week in September Lake Maggiore plays host to some of the finest orchestras and soloists in the world. It is here that the internationally acclaimed Settimane Musicale di Stresa e del Lago Maggiore is held.
How to get there
Verbania lies on the edge of one of Italy's most beautiful and visited lakes, Lago Maggiore. Just 45 minutes from Milan Malpensa Airport, one hour from Milan Linate, and 1.5 hours from Milan Bergamo airport. Many cheap flights can be found to all these airport with discount carriers such as EasyJet, Ryanair, Volareweb, and more.
Premeno is a beautiful and quaint town situated just 10 minutes from Verbania, at 800 metres above sea level, and 500 metres above the lake. The area boasts breathtaking views of the lake and its surrounding area, and the Swiss border can be reached in only 20 minutes by car.
