Villa Gialla is only 50 metres as the crow flies from the lake, and a five minute walk to the nearest beach, and offers amazing views from almost every room.
The pictures below of Villa Gialla speak for themselves - although no photograph can truly capture just how great the vista is. The front of the house has 180 degree views of the lake, from the beautiful Cannero Riviera Castelli to the north, right down past Porto Valtravaglia going south. Being so close to the water too, get the right light and no breeze and you can see the fish swim; a regular sight in summer will be a duck teaching its babies to catch food or grebes learning how to dive!
The house is located on the outskirts of Oggebbio with a 15-20 minute walk to the village centre to find the grocery shop, chemist, bar and pizzeria/hotel. Within a few minutes' walk also, on the lake front, there are three friendly bars, two of which serve food, together with boat rental, pedallos and windsurfing school. Access to the house is via a fairly steep 100m footpath and 56 stairs, so a reasonable level of fitness is required, although we will transfer your luggage on arrival and departure and provide a welcome pack (additional cost) of shopping if you wish.
Villa Gialla has undergone an internal major refurbishment project, which is now largely completed, over the last three years, including two en-suite bathrooms (one with with shower, the other with wc/basin), new master bathroom and much more.
Downstairs there's a spacious and very comfortable lounge/dining room with large windows and French doors leading directly onto the front balcony and terrace area, a beautifully fitted kitchen with central island, and a utility room with washing machine and separate wc/washbasin. The lounge has a wood burning stove for cooler evenings and Freesat TV with English programmes. The kitchen is equipped with oven, five burner gas hob, microwave, large fridge/freezer and dishwasher.
Cat-friendly animals, with their well-behaved owners, are made especially welcome in the downstairs of Villa Gialla! The lounge has two ceiling fans and mesh security shutters that can be pulled across open French doors, to ensure the area is kept as cool as possible if you need to leave your pet at any time. As we live next door, we're also mostly available to check on your pet regularly if you wish to leave him/her for any length of time, let them into the garden etc. We can also leave water bowls and dog towels out for you to save space on the journey.
Free Wifi is also available throughout the house and garden.
A wooden spiral staircase leads to three bedrooms & bathrooms (with a larger exterior staircase for taking suitcases etc. up and down).
Bedroom 1 –Bedroom 1 – king size bed, ceiling fan, en-suite shower room and French doors to balcony. When you lie in bed, you get the impression of being directly onto the lake!
Bedroom 2 – Double bed, en-suite wc/washbasin – side view
Bedroom 3 – Twin beds with a side view and adjacent to the master bathroom with walk-in shower, bath, wc and basin.
Balconies run the length of the house, both up and downstairs, with a large balcony extension on the south side of the lounge for outside dining. There is an additional patio area to the side of the house and some terraced garden. Please note that, due to the balconies and terraced nature of the garden, we feel that this property is not necessarily ideal for very young children, although if you talk to us in advance, we can discuss possible ways of getting round this (and have already done so for visitors).
We also have our own 6 metre speed-boat on a buoy directly below the property and are happy to organise sight-seeing trips and water skiing lessons (we are both qualified and very experienced boat drivers and water ski instructors, and have all appropriate insurance) for 70 euros per hour including driver. This is always subject to weather and availability.
Please note that the interior of the house is 100% non-smoking and we do ask guests to respect this for the benefit of others. Thank you.
Heating (gas, electricity and wood for the burner) are charged at cost - please talk with us. For the summer months this does not, of course, apply.
We very much look forward to welcoming you.

The Lake Maggiore region
Lake Maggiore is the second largest lake in Italy and offers, particularly around the region of Oggebbio & Cannero Riviera, a particularly mild and almost sub-tropical climate - not too hot in summer and not too cold in winter (although the nearest snow ski resort is only an hour's drive away).
The lake itself is perfect for a variety of water sports, or just lazing on the beaches, and tranquil ferries plough up and down each day offering trips to local markets and the beautiful Borromean islands. The northern part of the lake is, in fact, in Switzerland, so a trip to Locarno or beautiful Ascona provide the perfect opportunity to buy a Toblerone chocolate bar in its home country! There are various music and cultural festivals throughout the year and the lake-side firework displays in August are an absolute must.
FOR 2015 don't forget that the Milan Expo exhibition is open from 1st May to 31st October, and is easily accessible from Lake Maggiore either by car or train. For more information, visit the web site http://www.expo2015.org/en
The village of Oggebbio is approximately 10km from the town of Intra (Verbania) and is made up of several small "fractions". Our villa is in the tiny fraction of Resega, with just a few other houses, two bars and two beaches. If you're worried about driving on the tiny mountain roads, then there's no need, as our house is reached along the main road from Intra or Cannobbio. The village is just 15km from the Swiss border.

"Great spot, amazing view"
Judith and David are renting out their own home as a holiday rental, and went out of their way to make it suitable for our visit with two children (5 and 1), including taking us out on their boat. All in all, we had a great time and the area is really beautiful. The owners before Judith and David had it for about three years, but before that it had been uninhabited for 20+ years, so as you can imagine it needed quite a bit of work, which Judith and David are doing. If you expect everything to be pristine, modern and 5-star, you'll be disappointed. If you're happy with a good family home where everything works, this will suit you. Because it's Judith & David's home and they love it, it was absolutely immaculate and beautifully presented. We found it a very livable, comfortable place to spend a week. Like anywhere, there are pros and cons: PROS Amazing view - wonderful panorma from the upstairs and downstairs balconies. You could sit there and stare at the lake for hours with the sun going down and a glass of something cold in your hand. Wonderful way to unwind after a day out and putting the kids to bed. Good location - just south of Cannero, which is a really pretty town with a nice beach and restaurants along the lakefront. We did day trips north to Locarno and south to Stresa. If you were keen you could also do a day trip to Milan. It's in the center of the best side of the lake, and it's the quietest of the big lakes. Generally the location is brilliant. Lots of space - three bedrooms upstairs; large living-dining downstairs and newly-renovated, well-equipped kitchen, newly-renovated bathrooms, plus of course the balconies, and an outdoor patio CONS: Access - the major drawback is that the house is only accessible via a 100m dirt track up a hill, then a flight of stone steps. Judith and David are well aware of this and are planning to turn the track into a driveway, but for the moment, you do have to park on the road at the bottom of the hill and walk up and down the track when you come and go. Parking - you have to park on the side of the road, on the opposite side, about 50m from where the track meets the road, and there is no guaranteed parking spot, though in fairness we always found one Safety - there are no footpaths next to the road, so you have to walk along the side of the road, which again was not ideal for a family with small kids, but no huge problem We were Judith and David's first customers, and they are gradually making more and more improvements. We coped with the walk up and down the hill (with two small kids) but there's no denying that it will put some people off and making it a driveway will vastly improve the overall experience. We felt that perhaps the price was a little high given the access issues.
