The Costa de Almeria region
Costa de Almeria has one of the hottest climates in europe which makes it an ideal location for anyone. The area is renowned for offering fantastic golf but apart from that it is an undiscovered area that offers wonderful beaches and is overflowing with Spanish history and culture.
Costa de Almeria is a varied place much like most Spanish cities. The coast is completely unspoilt which adds to it's charm. To the east of Almeria there is the rugged and desolate coast of the Cabo de Gata, also known as the Nijar natural park. This natural park is close by and is definitely worth a visit. Due to it's abundance of flora and fauna it is a protected area iwth high ecological value and will not be allowed to be developed upon.
The area is often known as the desert of Europe due to its arid landscape. The annual rainfall here is less than 200mm. It is sparsely populated, with few villages and a very low population density. Visitors feel a sense of exploration here as many of the coves can only be reached on foot. This area is particularly popular with nature lovers and back-packers. The most popular coastal village is San José.
West of Almeria is the highly developed tourist resorts of Roquetas de Mar and Aguadulce. These have all the facilities of any modern resort to support the package holiday market.
At the north of the Costa de Almeria is the naturist beaches of Vera, a number of new complexes are being constructed here. A little further south is Mojacar which successfully combines the popular beach holiday with the hillside white village that tourist love to explore.
Almeria city is worth a visit with the Alcazaba castle overlooking the metropolis.
To the west we find the developing complex of Almerimar with Marinas, golf, hotels and many other facilities.
Vera Playa / Al Andalus Thalassa area
Al-Andalus Thalassa is situated on the outskirts of Vera town just a few minutes from the coast of Vera Playa. This secure and private complex offers two outdoor and one indoor swimming pools, tennis courts and a boules area. Recently they have completed a Spa and Fitness Centre with a gym, Turkish baths, sauna and much much more.
In Vera there is a quaint and traditional feel to it with cobbled streets. An authentic market is held every Saturday morning. Here you will find locally produced fruit and vegetables, typical Spanish arts and crafts, along with a huge array of other products for sale. Vera also boasts a new medical centre and three large supermarkets, swimming pools, tennis courts and the Vera Water Park, which is located only a few minutes drive from the apartment. There is a large supermarket a few minutes drive away, and a shopping centre with bars, restaurants, shops and banks within walking distance. Vera Playa has long stretches of sandy beaches, and a naturist bathing area. The coastal resort of Garrucha is five minutes away, with fabulous sandy beaches lapped by the sparkling Mediterranean Sea. This Spanish fishing town has good selection of shops and restaurants specializing in freshly caught seafood and a cuisine to cater for all tastes. Mojácar village is 10 minutes away, a pretty Spanish town set in the hillside, overlooking the coast and beautiful mountain ranges. Valle D’Este, and Desert Springs golf courses are both around 10 minutes away. Almeria Airport is 45 minutes drive, while San Javier Airport at Murcia can be reached in just over an hour.
