Home description
Casa Lorca was made for families. It is a lovely villa looking over the Mediterranean in a small and exclusive development whose large and quiet communal pool (plus toddlers pool) has direct private access onto the wide sandy beach of Vera Playa which is one hundred metres from your door. Our marble-floored 'home from home' is air-conditioned and comfortable. It is perfect for a relaxing family holiday.
Perhaps our best recommendation is that Casa Lorca was fully booked right through from Easter to October in 2008.
The layout of the house lends itself equally well to small or large parties. The furnishings are a mix of good quality new and antique plus it has CD and DVD players and Satellite TV with multi-channel UK TV and Radio. There are five good-sized comfortable bedrooms and four bathrooms three of which have baths and showers and the fourth has a huge walk-in shower.
The kitchen is well equipped with washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, oven, hob and all you need to look after a family. There is a large barbecue outside for dining alfresco on the terrace or in the garden which is planted with palms and colourful plants plus ones such as jasmine, rosemary and lavender for scent on the evening air.
Access is easy from the airports at Almeria, Murcia and Alicante.

The Costa de Almeria region
The province of Almeria is part of the region of Andalusia in Southern Spain. It lies between but well away from the Costa Blanca to the north and the Costa del Sol to the south. It is almost entirely rural with no major cities or sprawling developments that have spolied large parts of those Costas.
In a way it is like they were thirty years ago. Such development as there is has been strictly controlled as to quantity and quality. There are no high-rise hotels and resorts full of package tourists and lager-louts. That's probably why the Spanish come here on holiday themselves. That and the fact that it really does have more hours of sunshine and less rain annually than any other part of Spain. Oh, and the beaches aren't bad either. Come and enjoy it. But just don't tell too many people.....
Vera Playa area
Casa Lorca and the surrounding area are made for family holidays. Casa Lorca is on Vera Playa beach which is the best in the area. It is wide, sandy and goes literally for miles so it is never crowded even in the height of summer. Minutes away is the fishing village of Villaricos which has bar/restaurants overlooking its tiny twin harbours. Beyond that the quiet country road follows the sea past coves and small beaches. Going the other way is the port of Garrucha with excellent seafood restaurants around the harbour. Then there is the small resort of Mojacar with its many shops, beach bars and restaurants. Youngsters can have a good night out there quite safely. Above it lies the old white hilltop town of Mojacar Pueblo which is a warren of streets to explore with stunning views across the sea and the surrounding countryside.
Beyond lies the Cabo de Gata National Park with its own coves and hidden places whilst inland lie the Sierra Cabrera mountains and Cortijo Grande valley with sleepy little towns and village dotted around quiet roads and tracks.
But peace and quiet does not mean boring. There are good restaurants, tennis, riding, walking, diving, and fishing all to be enjoyed in the area. For golfers there are four excellent courses within five to fifteen minutes drive of Casa Lorca.
For children there is a waterpark minutes away and the famous Hollywood Theme Park out in the countryside which is made from the film sets left over from when classics such as the Clint Eastwood 'Spaghetti Westerns' were filmed in the sun-bleached landscapes of this part of Spain. They have cowboy shoot-outs daily (dads find it irresistible).
The village and town markets provide lots of good fresh produce, colour and fun while for basic family supplies there are good shops and supermarkets minutes away. They also all have their own fiestas. If you hear of one go to it. The whole place, old and young alike, will be partying until nearly dawn.
And if all this gets too much you can just go back to sitting in the sun and leave the rest of them to get on with it....
Casa Lorca has a Guest Information Folder which tells you what there is and where you can find it.

Further details indoors: Casa Lorca lends itself to small or larger parties. It can suit 2-10 equally. You can see the details of how it is laid out on our website [the link is below with our contact details] but basically, because there is a second living room with two bedrooms and bathroom which together form a unit which is essentially self-contained, if there are several in the party you can have privacy from each other if you wish to. If you have children they can go off to watch a DVD or play their wonderful music on the CD player and of course they love having their own space. Alternatively, if there are just a couple of you, the house works because you can simply ignore these rooms. But you still have the option of a living room each if you have a fall-out with your better half....
Further details outdoors: Casa Lorca is on one of the most exclusive and expensive small beachside villa developments in the area. It is safe and quiet. The villa faces the sea and the large communal pool has direct access onto the wide sandy beach which stretches away endlessly. It is never crowded and nor is the pool itself as the few villas here tend only to be used from time to time by their owners.
If you have children, Casa Lorca is not near a main road and there is a gate to the pool and the beach so the little darlings are unlikely to get squashed or drown themselves while you're not looking. The beach itself is quiet, is up to about 300 metres wide and goes way off into the distance. As we said, it's never crowded, for example, the pictures here were taken in June.
If you get fed up with barbecuing for the tribe there is Antonio's friendly and inexpensive familiy-run beach restaurant just a couple of hundred metres along the sand which does everything from ice creams and burgers to great seafood and wine and is open all day and evening in the summer. Although there are plenty of other good places to eat we often don't trouble going any further. Just relax. That's what we made Casa Lorca for.
