Home description

The apartment is furnished in Spanish style, with a double bed, overlooking the rear outside terrace with patio doors, and the large comfortable sofa bed in the lounge does the same, overlooking the front garden/terrace through the patio doors. There is also a folding single bed suitable for a child or small adult. There is a tiled patio to the front and rear of the apartment all private, furnished with sun lounger and table and chairs.

Spanish village very close to the sea and beaches of Palomares and Vera playa, with local bars and restaurants (incl some english owned). Lovely sandy beaches at Vera playa, Garrucha and Mojacar. neighbouring village of Villaricos and several towns slightly further afield San Juan, Aguilas to the north and to the south Carboneras, and the Cabo de Gato National Park. There are also many hill towns Cuevas de Almanzora, Lorca, Albox, Turre, Nijar and others where you can find delightful local crafts, paintings, pottery, rugs etc. There are several local markets/car boots daily to choose from.

The Costa de Almeria region

This is the driest part of Europe with most sun hours in a year, and it is far from the "costas" with building only allowed to 3 storeys, there are no high rises to spoil the views. The village was an agricultural one, with growing of tomatoes/strawberries/ vegetables in the region, and is one of the last parts of Spain to be developed. Mojacar playa is full of bars and restaurants, many different cuisines and the 500 year old historic Mojacar pueblo is high on the hill above the playa, with its little cobbled streets made for donkey traffic and largely unchanged since those times, with many more little craft shops, bars and restaurants. Also in the area is the film studio , "Mini Hollywood" where many spagetti westerns were shot including " The good, the bad, and the ugly" and "A fistful of dollars". This is open daily to visitors and is just outside Tabernas. There is a water park in Vera Playa near the apartment, which is open in the summer. The thermal waters of Almeria (Alhama de Almeria and Sierra Alhamilla) keep the natural temperatures of 30 to 46 degrees c and are famous dating back to Roman times. The coast is completely unspoilt and the rugged coastline stretches south of Mojacar through the Cabo de Gato-Nijar national park, ideal for exploration. Further south of Almeria city are the modern resorts of Roquetas de Mar and Aqua Dulce. Almeria city is worth a visit with the Alcazaba castle.

The neighbouring villages of Villaricos and Garruca both have harbours and are also fishing villages. There is a port at Garrucha and in both villages there are many traditional Spanish shops/bars and restaurants. It is possible to walk along the beach and new promenades from Palomares beach right through to Garrucha and even Mojacar. There are also many cycle paths in the immediate vicinity, from Palomares to Villaricos and along the promenade at Vera playa to Garrucha. A separate part of the beach at Vera playa is set aside for naturists complete with their own bar. The shops, bars and restaurants of Mojacar playa stretch for several miles along the road through the resort.

There are many fiestas and music festivals including some on the beaches throughout the year (see local tourist info sites for details). The ski resort of the Sierra Nevadas is approx 2 hours away if you are staying long term in the winter. All places ie Granada, Malaga, Almeria, Murcia, Alicante are easy to reach by the motorway.

There is a variety of sporting activities such as scuba diving, walking, fishing (boat or land), and quad bike treks/ motor biking/cycle hire can be arranged. There are local facilities for tennis, gym, golf and paddle tennis. Quad bike treks are available in the mountains of 1 and 3 hour duration or longer. The golf courses around are numerous including the famous Desert Springs some 5 mins away, as well as Almerimar, Cortijo Grande, Playa Serena, Marina golf, Mojacar, La Envia and Andalucia Golf. There is also horse riding available.
This is a quieter part of Spain, more akin to the "typical" spain but nightlife and more activity can be found closeby. The mountains of Cabreras are behind the villages and the coastline is varied sandy beaches and more rugged rocky beaches falling dramatically from the hills.

How to get there

EasyJet and Ryannair fly into Almeria approx 40 miles (35mins on motorway) from the apartment.
EasyJet and Ryannair also fly into Murcia and Alicante to the north of the resort approx 50/60 miles approx respectively also via the motorway. Flights are available on Ryannair from 1p (plus taxes in winter sometimes around £20 return).
Various car hire companies at the airport including Hertz, Sol-car, Europcar and others.
Can also arrange car transfers by English agents in the area, around 80 euros, but a car is recommended to make the most of the area.
Also taxis are available at the airport.

There is a 4 piece bathroom suite with excellent shower and full bath. There is air conditionning / heating to all rooms, and a ceiling fan in the bedroom. For all English soap lovers, dont miss a thing! We have ENGLISH SKY TV connected with many channels, a large tv in the living room plus a tv in the bedroom which also receives sky. In addition there is a dvd player in the living room. The apartment garden has desert plants such as cactus growing and outside the garden there is a large grassed area with palms and sun terraces of communal gardens with large pool plus children's pool separate, as well as pool shower.

Further details outdoors:
The pool gardens have attractive palms and are landscaped, the pool is cleaned professionally daily and unlimited use is permitted, right outside your garden gate! There is also a bar b que at the apartment which you can use as well as sun loungers and outdoor patio dining furniture.

Further details

Well behaved pets will be considered and smoking is permitted on the outside areas. There is a single folding bed which can accommodate an adult and there is a large travel cot plus a baby walker seat for use by guests. There is a dvd and cd player and some dvd and cds. Most things have been thought of to make this a home from home.

A deposit on booking of 35% of the total cost on booking and the balance 2 months before your holiday, please. The keys and directions will be forwarded to you 2 weeks prior to your arrival.
