The cottage is presented to a high standard with comfortable furnishings throughout. There’s a lounge, separate dining room and a well equipped fitted kitchen. There are two double bedrooms as well as a twin room. The cottage has a private courtyard garden (that is not overlooked) and benefits from a dedicated parking space right outside the front door.
The town centre of Ventnor is quite literally down the road, with various shops, several good restaurants, two supermarkets, chemists, a post office and a newsagent. The very popular beach and esplanade are also within a few minutes walk with friendly café’s and restaurants. Oxford Cottage is situated perfectly for visitors who want to relax and unwind or visit the Island attractions as many of them are within a thirty-minute drive.

The Ventnor area
Ventnor is famous for its warm microclimate. The part sand, part shingle beach is great for sunbathing and swimming. Pubs, cafes and restaurants are dotted along the seafront as is the unique Isle of Wight shaped paddling pool. The Cascade leads up to the town, which is built on a series of zigzag terraces and steeped in history. There are friendly souvenir shops as well as delicatessens and convenience stores. Enjoy some peace and quiet in the tranquil Botanic Gardens, a 22-acre sub-tropical paradise. Heading west is one of the Island's hidden gems, Steephill Cove. All around Ventnor you'll find beautiful walks with dramatic viewpoints.

we came over to the island for a family wedding, oxford cottage was deceptively large enough to accomadate me my partner, his sister and my mother. this was a big concern before arriving that the rental would cause no tension before the event [families can be difficult!] oxford cottage is a great home from home, everybody was happy. very comfortable. very close to town. great to have your own parking space. lovely relaxing rooms. dining room was large enough to invite the new `in-laws` over after the event. wonderful time, looking forward to an excuse to stay at oxford cottage again. we did read the guest book and can agree with a few of the problems-the upstairs toilet has a problem flushing but there is another in the family bathroom. a baking tray and corkscrew are neede in the kitchen-no big problems. go and chill out there Response: Thank you for your lovely review we are pleased you had an enjoyable stay and hope to welcome you back in the future. We enjoyed our stay at this house in Ventor, IOW and were very lucky with the weather. The property is a good size 3 storey building within walking distance of the main Ventnor facilities, shops and beach. It's tucked off a main street surrounded by other properties but not overlooked. The house is nice and clean but doesn't have the personal touch of a private home and is clearly a managed holiday let with some random furniture. It came with most things you need for a self catering holiday and there was a welcome pack including bread, fruit and some wine which was a nice touch. Good value when we stayed but it could be improved with some more attention to detail - a patio area but no bbq, 2 rolls of loo paper for a week stay, sky tv but you had to disconnect this to use the dvd, nowhere to put full bin bags, a leaking fridge, only a velux window in the kitchen but nothing to open it with and caretaker room which was an unlocked bedroom of bits. All fairly minor quibbles which didn't spoil our stay. Really liked Ventor and would go back. |
