Gills Cliff House
House | 4 bedrooms | sleeps 8
This beautiful five star house was built in 1850, and is in an enviable position, high on the hill overlooking Ventnor Park and with panoramic views over the English Channel. Three of the bedrooms, as well as the living and dining rooms, have floor to ceiling windows to fully appreciate the view. The windows in the living and dining rooms open to access a large decked area with the most amazing vista in all directions.
Although in a quiet location Gills Cliff House is only about 10 minutes walk to the shops and beach as well as the many and varied excellent eating and drinking establishments which are increasingly putting Ventnor on the map. There is a bus stop for buses to Blackgang and Newport only 20 yards from the house.
The house is finished to a high standard with four double bedrooms sleeping up to eight people. The master bedroom, on the second floor, enjoys particularly fine views as well as having its own en suite bathroom. There's off-street parking for one car (or two smaller cars) but there is easily available on-street parking for several more cars within 50 yards of the house.
The decked area at the rear of the house has a large outside dining table with benches and chairs as well as sun loungers to fully take advantage of this sun-trap. Steps lead down from the decking to a fully enclosed garden which is mostly grassed.

The Isle of Wight region
The Isle of Wight only became a separate island about 7000 years ago and has long been known as The Garden Isle, noted for its mild climate, stunning scenery and friendly welcome. The Island became popular in the Victorian Era, when Queen Victoria made Osborne House her home. It is just five miles from the mainland, but it seems like another world.
More than half of the Island is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and there is a network of footpaths that stretches over 500 miles, so it is easy to get close to nature. Walking, cycling and riding are all attractions of the island. There are many family attractions to visit and fine beaches all around the coast. Alternatively, indulge yourself in the Isle of Wight's fine restaurants, art galleries and historic houses.
Ventnor is a charming Victorian town noted for its sunny summers and mild winters. It is built on the sheltered undercliff on the south of the Isle of Wight and is dominated by the highest point on the island, St Boniface Down, immediately behind the town. Sir James Clark, Queen Victoria's doctor, endorsed the health-giving properties of Ventnor's climate: "nothing along the south coast will bear comparison with it". Ventnor was recently described in The Times as "the epicentre of the new Wight".
In recent years Ventnor has become a centre for good food with many fine restaurants within minutes' walk of the Bermuda House. This in addition to other places to eat such as seafront pubs, an authentic Spanish tapas bar and a smart seafront wine bar.
There is excellent walking directly from the house (walks books and maps are provided) and a 20 minute stroll along the coast brings you to the acclaimed Ventnor Botanic Gardens.
The blue flag sandy beach is a short walk from the house.
