Enquire nowThe North East Italy / Veneto region
The Veneto is the most geographically complexed region of Italy. From the Dolomite Alps, rich with peaks for skiing and valleys filled with Alpine flowers; to the largest lake in Italy, Lake Garda, with towering Monte Baldo forming an exquisite backdrop; to the rolling foothills that are home to the wine producing area known as the Prosecco Route and the natural thermal baths near Padua; to the rich, agricultural plains criss crossed with navigable rivers connecting the Veneto with Eastern Europe; and finally, to the coastline of the Adriatic, rich with isles and islets, busy seaside resorts and miles of deserted, sandy beach, the Veneto offers a diversity unequalled throughout Italy.
First and foremost of Veneto’s exciting cities is Venice, whose history as a great maritime power, a trading centre with the East, and the leading commercial city of the Italian Renaissance is reflected in its art and architecture. There are many important monuments, museums and churches to explore, but the best way to experience this city of charming canals and quaint bridges is to just wander its narrow streets, looking into shops, stopping for a cappuccino and enjoying its people.
Take a ferry to the island of Murano, famed for its glassworks, or to Burano to see its lace. The city of Vicenza, Italy’s leading manufacturer of gold jewellery, has a tradition of working with precious metals that dates to the 3rd century BC. Renaissance porticos, impressive palazzi and the influences of the 16th century architect who was born here, Andrea Palladio, are seen throughout this beautiful city. Palladio also designed many of the over 100 villas that still line the Brenta River, where wealthy Venetian families had their summer residences.
Verona, associated with the story of Romeo and Juliet, was once a thriving Roman settlement, as is evidenced by the 1st century amphitheatre that dominates the city and is the site of opera performances in the summer. Verona’s overall look is medieval, however, and its buildings of a distinctive local pink marble make it one of the most beautiful cities in Italy. The art treasures of Padua, particularly Giotto’s frescoes in the Scrovengi Chapel, should not be missed.
The Venice, Veneto / Central Venice area
Unique, evocative and romantic, floating on the Venetian lagoon, Venice is a most beautiful and captivating city.
In Venice light and water combine to create a restless magic.
The ethereal nature of this town has fascinated many people. One of the most enchanting cities on earth, the seemingly impossible urban layout is exactly what gives Venice its charm.

It was a joy to stay in this apartment from the moment that we located the entrance gate to the last time that we passed through that same gate onto the Fondamenta Briati. We were pleasantly surprised that the apartment was only a five minute walk from Piazzale Roma. We had expected to walk much further before we reached, 'authentic' Venice. We were delighted that the apartment was light, spacious and comfortable with a good mix of traditionally elegant and modern furnishings. The personal touches of books and collectables were charming. The terrace was a real bonus,(equipped with sun loungers) large enough for us to host a supper party with friends and family. The kitchen was very well equipped and once we had found fresh ingredients, we cooked every day and enjoyed eating at the apartment. Each morning we would leave the quiet and calm of the spacious apartment and walk through the iron gate, straight into 'Venetian Life', vaporetti cruising up and down the Rio Santa Margherita, the domed Carmini church outlined against blue-sky...all on our doorstep. Heavenly Venice, Beautiful apartment! We recommend a 'virtual' walking tour from Piazzale Roma to the gate of the apartment on Fondamenta Briati, before arrival, alternatively arrival by water taxi would bring you almost to the door. this is a long overdue note, but we did want to reach out to you and thank you for making our stay in Venice this past June so very memorable. Your house was even more beautiful, and larger, than it appears in the web site pictures and our traveling group was very comfortable in your little corner of Dorsoduro. Cinzia and Wilma gave us a gracious welcome in your absence and we found the easy access to a bakery, butcher shop, and wine shop - along with the S. Margherita market stalls - most convenient during our stay. But most of all it was the lovely house and gardens that made our stay so wonderful. We have rented vacation homes in Italy, England, Belgium, Netherlands and France over the past 8 years and yours is easily our favorite. Hopefully Rococco and Pasquelino enjoyed our company as much as we liked theirs ! Thank you again for helping to make our holiday so pleasant. |
