The North East Italy / Veneto region
Venice is the most important city in Veneto, that is a very rich and original land , where you can find all kinds of landscape as beautiful lakes, mountains, a sea with beautiful beaches, important rivers that made the land productive, very interesting cities to visit and warming and exuberant persons as Goethe could see when he arrived in Verona. The so called Veneto is the result of past glories of the Serenissima. We have to recall that The Republic of Venice started to expand his domains in the mainland with the conquer of Treviso in 1339 and then with the conquer of the other cities like Padova and Verona 1405) So that the major cities of Veneto Treviso, Verona, Vicenza, Belluno, Rovigo are jewel cases that preserve precious historical and artistic relics and alls embellished with the enduring stamp of the Serenissima Republicof Venice. Verona Its symbolic monument is the Arena, the amphitheatre with almost 2000 years of history. While the palaces and courtyards are connected to the mythical Romeo and Juliet, Verona continues to enchant the whole world
Vicenza It has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites since 1994. The splendour of Vicenza lies in the theatricality of its works by its celebrated adopted son, Andrea Palladio. The sensual colours of the Berici Hills act as the backdrop. Treviso Behind the heavy gates of villas and palaces, under the porticos and in the gardens, here there is a sense of distinction and refinement of Treviso, famous for the frescoed houses that we can still see walking in the streets and for his good food and wine. Furthermore A Prosecco and culture tour will give you the opportunity of discovering the Prosecco hills ( Santo Stefano and Guia near Valdobbiadene )dotted with enchanting abbeysof the 14 century and old churches that adorn this area of incomparable beauty where you will be surrounded by vineyards. guito To drink the most famous Prosecco wine (spento o frizzante also sparkling or not wine) in the world.
Rovigo The waters of the rivers Po and Adige almost embrace each other while the surreal atmosphere of the nearby Delta creates a quiet but classic character. This is Rovigo, the smallest province in Veneto at the heart of the Padana plateau
Padua An elegant city with a discreet charm. One of the most significant attractions is the Basilica of St. Anthony, but Padua's artistic and cultural heritage can be discovered in every corner of the historical centre
Belluno The Celts called it "belo-dunum", the splendid city. Belluno is the gate into the magical world of the Dolomites, the mountains that have bewitched and inspired many artists as first of all Tiziano Vecellio the great painter of the 16 th century that was born in Pieve di Cadore in 1489-90 and died in Venice in 1576 . Nowadays you can visit his home ( museum) in Pieve di Cadore. The Venetian coastline Every year there are a million tourists who choose to spend their holidays on Venetian beaches. The beaches are long and wide, gently sloping down to the sea. All this guarantees relaxation and entertainment
The Mountains It is easy to fall in love with our mountains. In the winter, they are a skier's paradise with hundreds of kilometres of slopes for long-distance and downhill skiing. In the summer, the views are the stuff of dreams, making your holiday unforgettable. The most famous place to visit is Cortina D'Ampezzo.
The Venetian spas Distance yourself from stress, cure the body and recover the perfect physical form as well as treating yourself a little. Total wellbeing is available in all Venetian thermal spas. Each has its own seductive beauty
The lakes Paradise for sailing and windsurfing, paragliding and mountain biking, the Venetian lakes also offer interesting scenery and historical and cultural attractions The parks and the Po Delta From the mountains to the sea, Veneto boasts six protected nature areas. Lesser known than the more visited tourist destinations, these environments continue to preserve natural wildlife. To be enjoyed in all its peacefulness
Venice and its islands: It is a magic city that ispired a lot of painters for its lighting effects , here all is quiet and the life goes slowly . Venice must be discovered on foot during the day or by night , perhaps by losing oneself in the magical labyrinth created by lanes, small and large squares or taking a gondola to discover hidden misterious canals too.
Venice, Veneto / Castello, Venice area
Venezia ( Veni etiam means come back again) is a magic city, that past times attracted and attract nowadays people of all the world for its originality that we can notice in the nature of its location ( the lagoon) and its characteristic shape that make this city unique in the world. In fact Venice is composed by hundred of islands connected by about 400 bridges and this terrotory is divided in 6 district (areas) called sestieri as the so called Sestiere di Castello, di Cannaregio, Dorsoduro, San Marco, San Polo e Santa Croce. Venice lives on the sea, on the lagoon that has its influence on the life of the citizens. In Venice people can walk everywhere ( you don't need your own boat ) crossing the bridges and geting lost in the labyrinth of many narrow streets ( calli) Venice is a magic city not only to visit some day , but to discover in all his parts : streets, canals, monuments, buildings ,people, traditions.and foods .You can undersand Venice only living in it and experience the real Venetian life. The Castello district is one of the most densely populated area in Venice , it is a little away from touristic route like San Marco or Rialto, and the main road Via Garibaldi , where Ca' delle Ancore Apartment is located, is not a touristic area. The Via Garibaldi is a little picturesque suburb, village (in the city) with all kinds of shops and people know each other and can communicate to each other, it still survives a relationship between persons.... Our guests like this area for this reason as you cannot find this relationship between people in other big cities and even in other part more touristic of Venice.
In Venice Festivals and celebrations have been part of Venetian life since the earlier days of the Republic to bolster the power and prestige of the Repubblic of Venice as the famous Regata Storica that takes place nowadays every year in September ( first Sunday in September ) to recall glorious past times. It is the biggest of the water festivals that beginning with a superbly costumed procession of ornate and historic boas down the Grand Canal is followed by 4 races: young rowers, women races, canoe like boats caorline races and gondolini races. The Redentore festival celebrates the deliverance of the city from the plague of 1575 ( Tiziano painter died during it) , when the church of Redentre was built on Giudecca island. There is a pilgrimage to this church and a nighty party in the lagoon waiting fireworks ( Third weekend of July).
The Carnival is another important event in Venice. People of every part of the world come in Venice to experience the ancient tradition of using masks, beautiful costumes and funs of past times when it was the last chance for fun and gams before the long and penitential weeks leading up to Easter. . In September the International Film Festival takes place on the Lido ( near Venice . It is famous for his beautiful beaches too ) It is the highlight of the year with stars and directors bringing glamour to the city.. The International Biennale Exhibition of Modern Art takes place from June to November in Castello district inside the Giardini Biennale and inside the Shipyards ( Arsenale Corderie).
How to get there
My suggestion to make Ca' Alexander easier to find.
From APT Marco Polo you can take a watertaxi to Venice and stop at Arsenale, or from the airport the bus number 5 to Piazzale Roma and then vaporetto ( public boat) number 61 or 51 and get off at Giardini –Biennale. Another possibility is to take the big shuttle boat ALILAGUNA to Venice and get off at ARSENALE. It takes about 1 hour. From here turn right and cross 2 bridges you reach Via Garibaldi, our building is located a little way up on the left under a big flag hanging between two pharmacies, entrance down narrow alley just past the flag, the first door on left ring bell Ca' Alexander. From Venice Station S. Lucia you can take public boat (vaporetto) number 51 and get off at Giardini- Biennale stop. From Venice Piazzale Roma you can take vaporetto number 51 or 61 and get off at Giardini Biennale stop. From APT Ttreviso you take shuttle bus to Venezia (you will arrive at Piazzale Roma bus terminal). Then from here you look for vaporetto ( pubblic boats) departure and take number 51 or 61 and stop at Giardini Biennale. Crossed the Viale Garibaldi you find Via Garibaldi, we are at the left side, red building with flag of Venice. Entrance below the flag passing through a narrow street , ring at the first door ( number 1966) Ca’ Alexander.

Guestbook for Ca' Alexander B&B Venezia
Thank you for a lovely stay in Venice. Your apartment is lovely; very clean, spacious, nicely furnished and well situated with great views and your family made us feel very welcome. ( S. Blood March 2009 )
This is an extraordinarily wonderful place to stay. The accommodation is beautiful and the family to whom it belongs is extremely kind and welcoming. This is B&B accommodation on a completely different level to anything I have seen before. Uniquely in my experience, there is excellent lighting, throughout the flat - which you have all to yourself, the B&B title notwithstanding. There are gleaming granite floors, a handsome carpet and two very comfortable rather glamorously covered settees. There is a brand new bathroom, which is extremely stylish and includes a gleaming heated towel rail, a powerful shower and a "designer" basin unit. The bedroom is enormous, with a huge very high quality bed, vast cupboards for hanging your clothes and a very nice old chest of drawers. We stayed for the week leading up to New Year's day, but in fine weather, the terrace balcony must be wonderful. The heating in the flat works very well and there is also an airconditioner of an excellent type that I recognise from other stays in Italy. In addition to the large telly and music system, there is a small collection of English language paperbacks. There are also very nice Japanese prints on the wall. This is the most excellent place that I have ever stayed anywhere. I could not recommend it more highly. ( Mariam. Dec-January 2008.2009)
Ca' Alexander exceeded our expectations. It was spotless, the owners gracious and very helpful, location was ideal. We would definitely stay there again and recommend this B&B to our friends. ( rate: 10 ). D. T. Mature couple USA, Oct 2008
Sabrina and her family were a welcome joy to the various hotels we stayed at. We felt like we were locals!! Ciao! Guest name: J. M., ( rating: 10)
Family in Jun 2006 :Ca´Alexander was excellent place stay in Venice ( rating 10) .
This place was great! It really gave you a feeling of living in Venice. It is away from the tourist area and you are where the locals are. The price was excellent and the room was great. Guest name: M. Osburn, USA ( rating 9:2)
Average rating: 10.0 Guest type: Family with young children stayed in Jan 2008 Perfect place to stay whilst in Venice. Close enough to easily access major tourist locations and just far enough away to feel as though you are truly experiencing Venetian life in quiet neighbourhood. Lovely warm welcome upon arrival, great communication and attention to detail was flawless. We stayed three nights and whilst the stairs to the top floor apartment were not ideal with our 10 month old, the wonderful hosts went out of their way to ensure there were no accidents with our baby. Would return to this magical city.
Guest type: Mature couple stayed in Nov 2007 ) rate 9 9 We spent two nights in Venice prior to a cruise. The location of Ca'Alexander was perfect for us - a very short walk to the Biennale venues and to San Marco. This is a lovely, quiet area - a real neighborhood. The Lazzari family (Sabrina, Fabio, Mom and Dad) were so welcoming and helpful to us and the accommodations were impeccably clean and inviting. We will definitely come back here. Guest name: F. Sanders,
Ca' Alexander was simply SUPERB! It's actually one of our favourite places we stayed in Italy. The privately owned apartment by this family was absolutely warm and friendly. The place was immaculate! We did not expect a private apartment that sits on the top floor with a fabulous view of Venice from the terrace. Every morning they delivered fresh baked bread to our apartment for breakfast. They were accommodating our entire stay. The apartment is situated on Via Garibaldi which was a beautiful area. Walking distance to everything. Restaurants, shops, market, post office, banks. It's also just 3 stops away from San Marco square by vaporetto (boat bus). At night, it's a lively place to be in! . We highly recommend this place to stay. We cannot thank Alessandro, Nadia, Sabrina and Fabio for our lovely stay. Grazie. ( Guest Rating :10 )
A perfect 10 for Ca'Alexander. Everything we read in the reviews about how wonderful this B&B was for previous guests is absolutely true. Immaculately clean apartment. Spacious rooms. Sipping wine on the balcony with a view of the Grand Canal and local street life. Fresh, warm pastries arriving every morning for breakfast. The host Alessandro and hostess Sabrina are very gracious and welcoming. Ca'Alexander is located in the charming Castello district, yet near the Piazza San Marco (easily walkable in fifteen minutes or reachable very quickly by the vaporetto), but well enough away from the noise and congestion of tourist activity. The photos of the B&B are very accurate, but actually seeing the apartment is still a remarkable surprise, and then walking out on the balcony is even more impressive. On the Via Garibaldi where the B&B is located are several fun restaurants with fine food at reasonable prices, a supermarket called COOP, a gelateria, fresh fruit and vegetable stands, all adding up to life among the locals. Finding Ca' Alexander can be challenging, so as you walk along Via Garibaldi away from the Grand Canal, look for the supermarket COOP on your left. Once you have found it, backtrack several steps to the first, very obscure little entrance with a flag three stories over it, on the same side as COOP, that leads off the street between two buildings into a back court. The first door on your left will be the main door to the B&B. Ring the bell, open the door to an inner courtyard, and you are on your way to a magical stay. Be ready for the shower experience of a lifetime; Alessandro plans to enlarge the bathroom in the near future, but in the meantime, taking a shower is tight, but a real hoot. We have already recommended Ca'Alexander to our relatives who will be visiting Venice in a few months; they are anxious to experience the same fine stay that we had. Bravo, Alessandro and Sabrina! We shall return. Guest name: G. Santarelli, USA rate 10.
