Apartment in Central Venice
Apartment | 3 bedrooms | sleeps 8
Ref. 15605 - This beautiful 150 m2 apartment can comfortably sleep up to eight people and is located on the mezzanine floor of a fully rehabilitated historical building just a short distance from one of the most stunning squares in Venice, Campo di San Giovanni e Paolo.
The main entrance opens onto a large and sunny lounge fitted with a XVII century fireplace that along with the ceiling is decorated with period stuccos. The lounge is also furnished with two comfortable three-seater sofas and is a great spot for guests to unwind after a long day of sightseeing around the streets of Venice.
There is also a large bookcase that divides this area from the third bedroom that has two single beds. This area leads onto the two other bedrooms; one with two singles and the other with a double bed (both have a private bathroom with shower), as well as the large, sunny kitchen that is fully equipped with all modern electric appliances and furnished with an antique cupboard and XIX century table that can seat all guests together at meal times. The kitchen has access onto the wonderful terrace with fabulous views over the Rio dei Mendicanti, one of Venice's main canals. The terrace is fitted with a table and chairs and a stone staircase leads down to the small garden with an adjacent 25m2 building on the ground floor just below the terrace. It is home to a large antique bed, private bathroom with shower, and original kitchen that includes an antique cupboard, a television and a fridge.
From the garden a water gate leads out to the river, the Rio dei Mendicanti, where it is possible to moor a small sailing vessel. The garden also has another private gate that leads out of the residence towards the city centre. The accommodation is just 100 metres from the ferry stop Fondamenta Nuove and just ten minutes from Saint Mark's Square.

Description: Canareggio is the most northern district in Venice. There are a number of legends explaining its name, one which refers to the many reed beds or canneto that formerly lined the area. It is the second largest neighborhood after Castello. The homonymous canal was formerly the main entrance to Venice before it was connected by overland railway. Along with the Grand Canal it is currently the only inland canal where the ferries or Vaporetti can pass.
One of the quietest and most modest districts in the city, it has conserved a great deal of its beauty, and is divided by a network of wide canals, and full of little narrow streets, small shops, simple bars and handicraft workshops.
There are numerous buildings of tourist and cultural interest including the gothic XIV century Church Madonna dellOrto that contains many of the works of Tintoretto; who as a parishioner was buried there.
Also worthy of a visit are the former charity building (the old school of mercy) Scuola Vecchia della Misericordia in the dellAbazia area, and the Santa Maria dei Miracoli church that was one of the first Renaissance style buildings in Venice.
The Campo dei Mori area; the name also assigned to the statues erected there, is derived from its past as the home of the tradesmen from Morea in the Greek Peloponese Islands. The home of the famous Tintoretto is also close by. It is believed he lived in the house from 1574 until his death; identified easily with a clearly marked bust statue and memorial plaque.
A little off the beaten and more conventional track within the Canareggio district is the neighborhood of the Ghetto: the oldest Jewish quarter in the world. The very first settlements date back to the V century.
In Venice the Jewish community flourished and expanded and various synagogues and schools were built. It is also the area of the city with the tallest buildings. The Jews were not permitted to build and expand within the city and therefore were forced to construct vertically over the buildings already in place. This area is also home to the Jewish Museum of Venice.
