The North East Italy / Veneto region

The pearl of Veneto is by far Venice but there are also lesser know gems to be enjoyed as well.
The pre-Roman mosaics of Aquilea are breathtaking.
The Scrovegni Chapel by Giotto in Padova is worth a trip in itself.
Both of these can be reached in less than one hour once on the mainland.
The Venice, Veneto / Venice Lido area
Venice is well known for its art and architecture, but lesser known are the natural beauty of its lagoon and the many scattered islands. Torcello, Murano, Pellestrina and Burano to name just a few.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Malamocco. It was a great spot to head home to at the end of the day, escaping the crowds of Venice. The house is very clean, well equipped and comfortable. Transportation to and from Venice was quick and easy. The bus to the Lido ran every 20 minutes and took only 10 minutes and the ferry over the lagoon ran at least as frequently and was a 15 minute hop. There are a couple of small shops in Malamocco but we tended to pick up supplies in the Lido or in the Co-op a couple of bus stops away. And, of course, there are an abundance of places to eat out in Venice and in the Lido. |

Found this property in 2008 and have returned for three more magical holidays. The house is ideal for families or a large group of friends. It is tastefully decorated and has many extra comforts. The large 'New York' type living room is the centre of the house with plenty of cooking and dining space. The open plan area is just the place to have a drink and talk about your day at the beach, the private swimming club, the fun of the village or your day in Venice. Its so handy for visiting all the sights in Venice knowing that you can return on the ferry to the peace and tranquility of the Lido. The bedrooms are spacious and the bathrooms sparkle. There is a very attractive out door area with table and chairs and is at its best first thing in the morning for a spot of breakfast. Malamocco is a beautiful village with interesting buildings, a town square and the restaurant opposite the house is certainly worth a visit. |
Guestbook for Borgo Malamocco
Dear Lis,
Thank you so very much for the wonderful stay in your beautiful house, which we all enjoyed very much. Malamocco was as charming as we remembered it, albeit a bit more renovated than the last time we were there, and we had splendid days at the beaches of Lido as well as in the cultural wonders of Venice. As for the house, we found everything as charming as we hoped for. Along with the airy spacious rooms, the big “perfect-for-long-meals-and-good-talks” kitchen table and your sense for interior decoration made it sometimes hard to choose between eating at home, picnicking along the lagoon while admiring the sunset over Venice or eating at one of the local restaurants. In short: We will surely come back!

Hi Lis,
We had a GREAT time-absolutely loved the house. It is so welcoming, and has such an individual style-Italian, but with that American comfort zone, and your obvious design eye! We arrived late on Friday evening and our friends had bought loads of food at the Bacaro(sp?) which was great-quite a spread, and really welcoming to have in the house. We sat down to a feast, and so enjoyed the comforts of your welcoming home!
Your house is truly wonderful and welcoming, and we appreciated all your help and advice. I'd love to settle in there for a longer spell; get to know Malamocco and the Lido, go back to Burano, and enjoy Venice in a more leisurely fashion. We loved the whole setup, and didn't find the distance to Venice any bother because of the good transport systems. The glorious weather helped, too. Loved your artworks and books, and you've done such a great job on the house, know your Wm Morris fabrics well! The house has a feeling of being treasured, and enjoyed-the work of a happy family. Everything was in excellent condition, and pristine when we arrived.
I'll sign off now with a big thanks,
Kathy & friends (County Cork - October '07)

Ciao Lis!
We had a real great time in your house in Malamocco! We enjoyed very nice beaching at Alberoni "spiagga libera" and every end of afternoon we were in Venice - so great: it was ideal holidays for kids and parents! We loved your house, tonic and colourful and the art works that you chose for it. We were in great admiration of your talent in quilting! The one you realised for your bedroom is marvellous. We are now really missing Malamocco and Venice and we hope it will be possible to come back for other holidays, if you rent again your house.
Thank you very much (also for the great olive oil from Tuscany)

PS: An advice for other visitors is to take a weekly or monthly abbonamento for the vaporetto to Venice: you have to complete a file (with an identity picture and ID references). For two weeks the monthly one is worth it:
it costs 26 /adult; 18/ child + 10 per file to fill.

Hi Lis,
We thought that your house was lovely. As there were just the four of us we had plenty of room. We really liked the décor too - we used to live in Philadelphia, so the Italian/US mix was definitely to our taste.
There was everything there that we needed. Thanks for the DVDs and CDs, we watched a couple of movies – that was a nice touch.
We’re now experts in getting around the Lido and Venice by public transport. Incidentally, the Vaporetto 62 is by far the quickest for anyone going from Lido to the train or bus stations – as it only stops in about 4 places (as opposed to about 18 stops on the #1).
Giancarlo was great too. He showed us around the house, then took us for a short walking tour round Malamocco and pointed out the sights and a great local bar/restaurant. He even took the trouble to take us in to meet the proprietor. The waiters there were really good and tolerant of our lack of Italian – so I think we kept the locals amused. The food was really good.
To sum up – the house is beautiful, the location is great, the transport is punctual & frequent, there are plenty of nice places to eat and it’s ideal for travelling round the Venice area.
Thanks again. We wish you the best of luck renting out the house.
Take care,
Chris & Margaret (Liverpool - August '07)

Ciao Lis,
We are now home having had an excellent month in Europe.
Your house was the highlight of our stay. We enjoyed every moment of our time in Venice.
The house is spacious and very well equipped very unusual for a holiday rental.
We felt the house very much a family home and had a very happy feel to it. The decoration and equipment were of a very high standard and it is so good to have the benefit of air conditioning.
I think you should post pictures of the bathrooms on the web page as these were in amazing condition and are selling point when renting.
We would certainly wish to use the house again - either next summer or indeed around Christmas/New Year.
Thanks again for a wonderful holiday,
Frank (Glasgow - July '07)
