The North East Italy / Veneto region
The pearl of Veneto is by far Venice but there are also lesser know gems to be enjoyed as well.
The pre-Roman mosaics of Aquilea are breathtaking.
The Scrovegni Chapel by Giotto in Padova is worth a trip in itself.
Both of these can be reached in less than one hour once on the mainland.
The Venice, Veneto / Venice Lido area
Venice is well known for its art and architecture, but lesser known are the natural beauty of its lagoon and the many scattered islands. Torcello, Murano, Pellestrina and Burano to name just a few.
How to get there

Arriving by train or plane you can reach the Lido on one of the many boat lines, either the local (1) or express (51, 52 or in the summertime 82, or Alilaguna from the Marco Polo Airport).
Once you arrive at the Lido pier, on the same side walk, you take the bus which leaves every 10 minutes, either A or B, direction Alberoni, and get off in Malamocco town centre. It takes approximately 15 minutes.
Or you can also take a taxi, for approximately 10 euro.
Arriving by car you take the Ferry Boat service from Tronchetto to Lido which runs every 50 minutes. Once on the Lido you drive the main road in the direction of Alberoni for a few kilometres and stop at Malamocco. We have a private parking spot on the premises if you decide to bring a car.

We are a family of 4, with 2 teenage children. We stayed at Borgo Malamocco in the summer of 2011, and used it as a base to discover the Venice area and North East Italy. We had 2 friends stay over for a couple of days, while we were there. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Borgo Malamocco, which is a beautiful home in a perfect location. We found it very easy to find and convenient to settle in, with the help of Manolo and with the instructions we were given by the friendly owner. The file and leaflets with local information on Lido is very good, with great tips for the beach, shops, restaurants, local pool and tennis courts etc. We felt at home in the village, and found it extremely relaxing to return "home" to Borgo Malamocco from our trips to the other islands in the Venice area, Florence, Verona and Cortina d'Ampezzo. It is a gem of a place, and we have very fond memories of our time there.

We had the best time in Lido staying at Borgo Malamocco.5of us all together and we never got in each others way at all.Plenty of room. The two big bathrooms were very nice. Two very nice bedrooms and the loft overlooking the open living room with all the beautiful art and kitchen were perfect. We made some awesome Italian meals in that beautiful well equipped kitchen. The large family table was where we ended our evenings after the day in Venice or at the beach or watching the sunset.
