Throughout history Venice has been a magnet for visitors of all kinds, from the early medieval merchants on whose fortunes this fabulous city was built, to the more recent artists and 'mere' tourists. The latter who have come in search of landmarks such as Piazza San Marco, the Bridge of Sighs, Rialto, museums, & the grand palazzos on the Grand Canal, have not been disappointed! In addition to the manifold delights of Venice, a day's trip to the neighbouring islands (Murano, Burano, Torchello...) is a must if you are here for more than a few days.
There are of course the attractions of the Veneto within easy traveling distance. From Santa Lucia, the railway station you have access to the nearby historic cities of Padua, Vicenza and Verona, which include Palladian Villas. There is also the ferry service nearby which can transport to neighbouring Croatia and the Istrian coast.
The Venice, Veneto / Dorsoduro area
At the end of our lane is the magnificent Zattere promenade, where you can go for your evening stroll (passeggiata) along with the Venetians. Close by you will find the Accademia, Guggenheim and Punta della Dogana (Francois Pinault collection) galleries. La Salute (church) at the end of the Zattere marks the spot where the Grand Canal meets the Bacino di San Marco and there is a marvellous view to be had from this point.
Throughout the year there are the various pageants & festivals, one of the most famous being Carnavale in February. During May there is the Festa della Sensa to enjoy, while one of the most spectacular events happens in July with the Festa del Redentore, when a temporary bridge of barges is built across the Giudecca Canal. Of course there is always the annual Venice Festival and every two years the biennial...so much to see and do yet so little time!

This is a lovely apartment in a non touristy part of Venice with all you need. It is simply and charmingly decorated and furnished and very well equipped. There is the most lovely area to sit out that gets the morning sun - just right for a slow start to the day. The main Zattere frontage is literally at the end of the alleyway - 25 metres from front door. The San Basilico and Zaterre Valoporeto stops are also very close so really easy to get to centre (or 30mins walk or so). Great eating places very nearby and some useful recommendations (or warnings!) are given by the owners in a comprehensive info pack. For 2 people there is loads of room - for more than that I would feel it might feel a little cramp but that would depend on personal needs. I would certainly go back anytime. |

The apartment is lovely with the advantages of being located in the most Venitian part of Venice it is decorated with original painting (by richard Colson) of various Venitian scenes adding atmosphere. It has a lovely private outside area and although it is situated within walking distance of fantastic restaurants Dusodoro is a quaint and quiet area. The bus stop is literally 2 mins walk from the apartment, as is the supermarket. We had a wonderful time here mixing eating out and home cooking with locally sauced goods cooked in the adequate kitchen. We had romantic meals in and romantic meals out! We wandered around discovering bars and lovely people. Visiting all the tourist sights but seeing much more. there is information in the apartment that provides tips on how to see the real Venice. Super time. |

This apartment could not have been better located as it was right next door to a big supermarket and very handy for restaurants and waterbus stops. The accommodation was ideal and had an outside terrace which was an added bonus. Would certainly recommend it for a short break. |
