Large, beamed family bedroom including a double bed, two singles and a large cot. A further TV for DVD use and en-suite washroom with WC and washbasin. Spacious but still cosy, this room is infinitely adaptable.

The Normandy / Manche region


There are waterfalls and lovely panoramic views at nearby Mortain and a little further, Domfront has an attractive ‘old town’ and a ruined castle. Avranche, on the coast, has historic World War 2 associations and boasts a fantastic public park and gardens. Granville is a traditional, quaint, older seaside town with a
harbour and fascinating old town section.
Vire has a beautiful river valley for lovely walks or cycling and a nearby damned lake offers some of the best salmon fishing in France!
A short distance away are the rocky gorges and river of the Swisse Normande. And if you enjoy mountain biking, we have bikes at reasonable rates and you can follow some of the trails around our own area, the Vire Valley or ‘Little Switzerland’.
Or just enjoy your cosy gite, which has everything you need for a comfortable, relaxed holiday. Children can play out in safety all day long and there is plenty available for them to do – bikes to hire, swings and slides, wildlife adventures etc.
The Vengeons area
The 200 year old cottages stand on two acres of open fields, an orchard and a small bluebell wood. Bluebell cottage has a wood burner within the traditional massive stone fireplace and a pile of logs awaits you.
Vengeons is a tiny hamlet surrounded by softly rolling countryside, criss-crossed by small, tree-lined fields and scattered farms. The delightful small town of Sourdeval is only 5 minutes away, with the kind of local individual shops that are only a memory in England.
The larger, historic town of Vire is under 10 minutes drive away and offers, apart from the usual big town attractions, a large swimming pool with outdoor slides, a museum, canal and large bustling Friday market.
Ideally situated for exploring the many delights of Normandy, there are a huge variety of activities and places to visit, from street markets selling fresh local produce, mediaeval towns and castles to explore, trout and carp fishing, to a visit to the local calvados and cider farms to sample the local brew.
The famous Mont St Michel is less than 50 miles away where you can visit the famous Benedictine Abbey from the 8th Century. 45 minutes from your Cottage and a must to visit, it's breathtaking.
Villedieu-Les-Poeles, the 12th century birthplace of copper, where you can see the traditions of copper, tin and lacemaking. Bluebell Cottage is part of a group of building, one was the lacemaking house.
The mediaeval town of Bayeux to view the world famous tapestry is only an hour and a half away.
Bagnoles-de-l'Orne - a beautiful place to visit with parks, shops and many places to eat. The Monaco of the north with it's own casino.
Local activities for children and adults there is the enchanted village at Bellefontaine with its miniature railway and animated scenes and the safari lodge at Lisieux, as well as Alligator Bay at Beauvoir.
For those who like the high life skydive or do a parachute jump at Avranche or Granville.Sailing,diving,sea kayaking,land yachting and canoeing are available at Granville and Gourville- Sur- Mar.
There is also one of the largest outdoor go-karting tracks at Mortain, 15 minutes away.
Excellent fishing for rainbow/brown trout, bream, tench and carp at Etang du Moulin, Beautiful scenic lake, English owned, with lunch menu, snacks all day and English beer.

Bluebell cottage is part of a small group of newly-converted farm cottages in a tiny hamlet above the hills and dales of lower Normandy – the 'Brocage'.
The 200 year old cottages stand on two acres of open fields, an orchard and a small bluebell wood. Vengeons offers the opportunity of a relaxed, peaceful country holiday, ideal for young families, together with easy access to the many tourist hot-spots of Normandy and Brittany.
Just over an hour from Caen (Brittany Ferries) or the airport at Dinard, it is an ideal base for visiting the historic World War 2 landing beaches, Bayeux with its lovely cathedral and famous tapestry and the unique abbey on Mount St Michel, near the walled city of St Malo – the second most visited tourist attraction in France.
You can find cheaper travel from L and D Lines ferries from Portsmouth to Le Harve is 2hrs away and Sea France from Dover to Callais some 4 hrs away.

Chris and family. Coming from a week in London the gite at La Manche was a perfect retreat. This is a wonderful location from which to explore the area. Central, convenient, scenic, beautiful. Highlights for us was our visit to Mont St, Michael, stunning.
