In addition, this level has a large fully equipped designer kitchen also with French doors out onto the garden terrace for alfresco dining or a late afternoon apero. This level is completed with a guest WC.

The mature and private south facing garden has been beautifully designed and maintained and has a 12ft diametre plunge pool. The garden includes mature trees and shrubs and there are several charming terrace areas for lounging in the sun, paritcularly the moroccan style terrace with its superb views of the Vence "baou" mountain as a back drop.

The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region

This region has some of the most spectacular scenery in France and truly lives up to its name of Alpes Maritimes where the Alps meet the sea. The area extends from St. Tropez in the west through the other International beach resorts of Cannes, Juan les Pins, Antibes and Nice then on to Monaco and Italian border.

In land, there is an abundance of wooded hills and moutain scenery richly inhabited by this areas "village perche" - fortified medieval villages perched on rocky outcrops with beautifuly preserved streets and historic houses. Each village has its own character and speciality and all are rich in artisan shops and workshops, galleries, cafes and restaurants. During the winter the region boasts a number of top class ski resorts including Auron, Isola 2000 and Valberg. In fact this area is one of the few places in the world where you can ski in the morning and be on the beach in the afternoon.

The whole region borders the beautiful mediterranean and there are interesting places to explore just off the coast. For example, a fifteen minute boat ride from Cannes or Juan les Pins brings to the Iles des Lerins - three islands, one of which includes the famous monastery on St. Honorat and the largest island St.Marguerite has a large impressive Napoleonic fort and the dungeon which held the mysterious "man in the iron mask". There are regular ferry crossings from Nice to Corsica where you can take your car and in four hours be exploring one of the most intersting islands in the mediterranean.

Vence

Vence is a lively medieval town with colourful street markets, a large selection of restaurants and shops and in particular cafes inside the old town walls which offer great places to sit and watch the world go by. Vence nestles in the hills behind Nice and Antibes and is just 25 minutes from Nice Cote d'Azure airport and nearest beaches at Cagnes sur Mer. Around 45 minutes by car you will find the lively beach resorts of Cannes, Antibes, Nice and Juan les Pins. A little further along the coast is the super sophisticated principality of Monaco and the Italian border. In the other direction, to the west, a two hour drive brings you to the former fishing village and now international destination of St. Tropez. The local ski resort of Greolieres can be reached in just over 45 minutes and offers fantastic mountain views in both winter and summer. The area is surrounded by medieval "village perches" including Vence itself, St. Paul de Vence, Tourrettes sur Loup, Gourdon and Haute Cagnes - all offer something just a little different.

There are five excellent golf cources within a thirty minute drive. Other outdoor pursuits nearby include tennis, paracending, hang gliding, canyoning and horse riding. There are also excellent walks nearby for hikers of all levels.

The areas association with art is world famous including the Matisse Chapel in Vence, the Chagall painting in Vence Cathedral, Renoirs house near Cagnes - now a museum, the Picasso Museum and gallery in Antibes , international art gallery Fondation Maeght in St. Paul de Vence and hundreds of local galleries.

"Great location near lovely Vence"

The house is very well-placed, just a short walk to the boulangerie etc and a few more minutes into the old town. Vence is lovely and it was great to be able to wander in to buy fruit and vegetables a… More
