The French Riviera - Cote d'Azur region
.The area is mountainous, wonderful for walking and rock climbing with typical mild Mediterranian climate.
The region is rich in history and art, and has easy access by autoroute to Arles, Avignon, Antibes (and other Roman centres), Monte Carlo, Cannes, Menton and all the other famous resorts of the French Riviera. For skiiers - under 2 hours drive to the pistes of the French winter ski slopes of Auron, Isola and others. Or reach the Italian border town of Ventimiglia in less than an hour for the mega market on Fridays.
Vence is ideally located for sightseeing, especially the mediaeval walled 'perched villages', the nearest of which are the famous St Paul de Vence (with the Colombe d'Or restaurant with its fine collection of paintings donated by hungry artists) and Tourettes sur Loup which is populated by craftsmen - potters, weavers, jewellery makers, etc - in their studio/shops
Elegant shoppers wil love Nice and Cannes or visit medieval Grasse for the source of perfumes, Art lovers will enjoy the local museums devoted to Picasso, Leger, Matisse, Renoir and Chagal and the stunning internationally renowned Maeght Foundation.
The Matisse Chapel is in Vence, as is the 'Cathedral' which has Roman remains and a Chagal mosaic.
Seaside beaches are within easy reach by car or - for real luxury - hire a lounger on a beach with pools for adults and children - and a restaurant and bar.

You may find a concert to be held in the Cathedral, a celebration evening of local wines, honey and olives in the main street, dancing in the square or the famous jazz music festival.
Restaurants, shops, banks and village markets abound in Vence - a few minutes walk from the apartment, and guests wishing to eat at home or take a picnic will find specialist gourmet ready-to-eat dishes in the shops in the old walled town .

"Ideal bolt hole for small group"
I've just come back from this apartment and it served our need perfectly. The first week my wife was out there with my daughter and granddaughter, then the second week my son and I replaced my d… More
Delighted that the apartment provided a suitable base for the family wedding - and that our guest walked into town daily. Of course, one doesn't have to go on foot as there are several convenient car parks in the centre of Vence - and plenty of places to visit by car along the coast, in the mountains or beyond.
Guests travelling without a car report that the buses in Vence (bus stop near end of the drive) are reliable and there are regular trains to Nice, Menton, Monaco and Italy, or, in the other direction, to Antibes, Cannes, Marseille or even the TGV to Paris, from the railway station in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
