The Vence area
Vence - city of Arts - is situated in the Alpes-Maritime department of France, between the Mediterranean and the mountains.
The natural splendour of this historical town is world renowned for its serenity and glorious light, which so inspired artists such as Dufy, Matisse, Chagall and Dubuffet.
Vence is full of galleries and there are frequent outdoor exhibits in the summertime.
Remnants of the 13th century wall with its five gateways that have been artfully preserved. Vence was an important Roman town and Roman artifacts can be found in the old town.
