The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur region

The French Riviera needs little description. It's infamous, yet still has many 'undiscovered' and hugely delightful corners. Villa La Colette's nearest village, mediaeval Saint Jeannet, was the location for Hitchcock's 'To Catch a Thief'. During the shooting of this classic movie leading lady Grace Kelly met Prince Rainier III of Monaco; and became a Princess just a year later. Star Cary Grants (aka John Robie) villa is is below the Baou mountain (see photo) and still exists for a discrete walk or drive-by.

Saint Paul and Vence reflect the classic Riviera but with a more modest twist. More relaxing than the coast yet only a short drive away from some of the most famous holiday spots in the world: Cannes, Juan Les Pins, Antibes, Nice, Monaco and Menton. And not forgetting that Italy is only an hour away. Art 'institutions' such as the Fondation Maeght, the Matisse Chapel and iconic hotel the Colombe d'Or are just a few of the delights that put this area on the map.

The weather is temperate and often ridiculously perfect. And winter holidays can offer the very best of both worlds: skiing and lunch in the sun followed by relaxing in the evening by the open fireplace at La Colette.

Saint Jeannet village is 3 minutes, Vence town centre 7 minutes and Saint Paul de Vence is 12 minutes away by car. A car is recommended but there is a little bus that leaves from directly below the villa and costs just a Euro a trip.

Internationally-renowned ski resorts (Isola 2000 and Auron) are only 83 kms away. Monaco / Monte Carlo is 45 minutes away and the Italian market / seaside town San Remo (great for a day out) is just over an hour away.

NEAREST AMENITIES are a 5 minute walk away:

Hotel / Restaurant

Brasserie - big, good and very reasonable. Local workers all eat there.

Bar / Tabac

Thai Restaurant (excellent food, awful decor)

Pizza Takeout and Delivery

Indian Delivery (the restaurant is in Vence)

Two bakeries (The nearest is divine!)

Supermarket (Marche U with fish counter and butcher)

Petrol Station (sells BBQ charcoal and firewood)

Newsagent (sells foreign newspapers and magazines)

Beauty Salon

Estate Agent (in case you're inspired to stay!)

"The perfect location, convenient for, but also a haven away from, the tourist spots."

We managed to pack a lot into a week- trips to Cap d'Antibes, old Nice, St. Tropez, the Verdon gorges, an evening walk up to St, Jeannet village and our favourite by far, a day in St.Paul de Vence (get there early if you want to book lunch at the fabulous Colombe d'Or, where you can also view original paintings by Picasso and other artists). La Colette is perfectly located for all these visits, yet tucked away and very private, great to come home to, with a lovely outdoor space to relax in. Local bakery excellent. It was a pleasure to meet you, Camilla- thank you for all your help and advice.

"Our best holiday EVER"

We have reluctantly returned to the UK from La Collette, and it turned out to exceed our expectations. The villa was beautifully furnished and provided everything we needed. The loctation was idyllic - within walking distance of local amenities, yet rural, private and secluded. We loved the different seating/eating areas, depending upon the direction of the sun (every day!) and enjoyed happy days around the beautiful pool area. We visited Antibes, Cannes & Nice, but our favourite place in the limited time we had was St Paul de Vence where we had lunch at the famous Colombe D'Or - an unforgettable experience.

Thank you Camilla for ensuring a perfect holiday!

"We fell in love with this beautiful villa"

We fell in love with " La Collette" as soon as we arrived at this beautiful villa nestled in the foothills of the famous "Baou" mountain not far from Nice. The house is beautifully presented, well kitted out and perfectly located up in the hills away from the mayhem of the coast. On a quiet day, we were able to relax by the lovely pool in the private gardens surrounding the villa (weather was beautiful in October). When we felt like a bit of culture, we visited the gorgeous surrounding villages of Saint Jeannet, St Paul de Vence and Vence (including the famous Fondation Maeght and the Matisse Chapel in Vence). On our more energetic days, we headed down to the coast and had the choice of such stunning resorts as Cannes, Antibes and other coastal towns of the Cote d'Azur, each of which are a short drive away. But the nicest aspect of this family style villa is the sense of peace, privacy and relaxation you get as soon as you arrive, sitting out having breakfast on the glorious terrace and enjoying the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. Camilla, the landlady, was able to attend graciously to our every need, including fabulous recommendations as to where to shop, dine and go "wunching" (walking and then lunching with lots of rose)! Seriously, if you are at all interested in walking / hiking in the South of France, this is the place to be! We only stayed in La Colette for a week but will definitely be back next time for a longer visit.

"Simply but beautifully furnished - just really lovely"

We spent a wonderful week at La Collette 4-11 Aug '12. The house is furnished in a simple yet very stylish way. The kitchen had all that we needed and in the sitting room there was plenty of space for a family of 5 to lounge around or sit at the dining table. There is a charming outside eating area, surrounded by shady vines and a wrought iron gate. The pool is along the garden path, with lots of very comfortable sun loungers, shady areas, if needed, and a lovely view. The most amazing boulangerie is c. 10 minutes walk away (uphill!) where we bought delicious fresh bread every day.
We didn't explore as much as usual as the Olympics were on (so it was great to have a TV with all English channels) but the old part of Vence is lovely. The famous St Paul de Vence is close but is absolutely heaving with tourists in August. It's a short drive to Nice - and the old part of the city is really amazing and full of wonderful restaurants as well as a great market. You can drive the beautiful coast road from Nice to the Italian border, passing through Monaco/Monte Carlo, which is fun and doesn't take long.

We stayed somewhere else for the second week of our holiday and it wasn't nearly as lovely as La Collette.

Thank you for a wonderful stay, Camilla!

No, thank you, Pippa! You were delightful guests. Hope to meet again. Camilla

"A quiet, private retreat"

I've stayed at La Colette a couple of times now and it's one of my very favourite places. It's quiet and peaceful - it's actually quite 'homely' - and it's perfect for a sunny retreat, a place to go and write your book or read or just potter about in the sunshine by the pool. It's very close to the lovely village of St Jeannet for provisions, cafes etc., and the bustle of Nice is very close too but I've actually found little need to go there, save for the odd spot of people-watching and restaurant meal out. The weather is particularly great in this area as well. Can't recommend the place highly enough and for what you get and if you think of the area as well, it represents very good value for money.

"Wow, home away from home - could not have been a better holiday."

We booked La Colette, sight unseen since the new refurbishment. I was a tad nervous as I was responsible for finding the Villa. Ms. Leslie could not have been more helpful on arrival and we settled in to her beautiful escape in St. Jeannet - a charming medievel french village at the foothills of the awe inspiring Baou limestone mountain.
Everything was so clean and we relaxed on the terrace with some French baguette, a local goats cheese and of course a fantastic bottle of the local rose from the St. Jeannet vineyard. There is so much to do on the door steps of the villa.
Thank you for a memorable stay - we are already booking the villa for our next get away.
