The Prekmurje/Pomurska region

Prekmurje or “land over the river Mura” is an area steeped in history whose warm hospitality will charm every visitor of this outermost part of Slovenia. It is a landscape dominated by vast corn fields, river standstills, large and small ponds, thermal spas and pretty villages surrounded by gently rolling hills covered with vineyards. Prekmurje is also famous for its nesting Storks and the bird has become the symbol of the region

Specially marked cycling and walking tracks cover the area enabling you to explore the countryside at your own pace and you can stop for a break at one of the many village Gostilna's or Inns for refreshment.

For over four centuries the healing properties of the area's thermal springs have attracted visitors from far and wide and this is still the case today. Terme 3000 the largest of these is in the small town of Moravske Toplice (15 minutes drive) and has 22 indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a water park with lots of slides, spa treatments, outdoor sports and 18 hole golf course, cycling tours and rafting. A further 3 smaller health resorts can be found in nearby Lendava, Banovci and Radenci all with swimming pools, thermal waters and family activities to hand.

Other local places of interest are the castles, churches and museums in Ptuj, Grad, Bogojina, the 13th century 'Rotunda' church built by the Knights of the Crusade in the Goricko national park, terraced vineyards in Jeruzalem, annual folk festivals in Velika Polona and Beltinci, Maribor Pohorje offers a very good standard of skiing during the winter months and a mountain bike park at other times of the year. Nearby Bukovniško Lake is set in a beautiful wood with unspoiled surroundings and is famous for its 26 energy points and the healing waters of St. Vida

For those of you looking for a truly international experience, Nedelica village is located close to the borders of Austria, Hungary and Croatia with the historic capital cities of Vienna and Budapest less than 3 hours drive away and Zagreb and Ljubljana (Slovenian capital) less than 2 hours away.

Velika Polina

Our Slovenian House is in a beautiful village in Nedelica, which is about 8 km from Velika Polana. It is a pretty rural village in the heart of Prekmurje, known as 'the garden of Slovenia'. It is the perfect place to stay for a peaceful retreat but you will also find a wide variety of activities for all the family with indoor and outdoor swimming pools at the natural thermal spas across the area and cycling paths, mountain bike tracks, cycling tours, walking, fishing, golfing, rafting and skiing all close at hand.

Set in a large garden, this beautiful farmhouse has been renovated to an extremely high standard and provides spacious living accommodation throughout. Outdoor areas cater for large or small groups with a BBQ, dining, sunbathing area at the rear and a covered front terrace providing respite during the summer months. 2 bars or “Gostilna's” and small shop are within approx 100 metres of the house and there are further bars, restaurants, bakeries and shopping facilities in the nearby towns and villages.

In the summer Nedelica and the surrounding villages are ablaze with colour as the gardens and window boxes are in full bloom. Only minutes away are the gentle hills of the Gori?ko national park covered with lots of small local vineyards and then the stunning scenery in the large wine producing area of nearby Jeruzalem. Due to its central location you can easily make day trips to Ljubljana (Slovenian capital), Budapest (Hungary), Vienna (Austria), Zagreb (Croatia) as well as a host of other fascinating towns..... the list is endless.
