About this group of co-located holiday homes

Casa Catalina is quiet and peaceful, but walkable to Velez Rubio which has all amenities, including the local market for fantastic local products, and many some excellent places for Tapas. We also offer meals on the middle eastern inspired terrace.

The property benefits from its own private pool which is 15 metres by 5, with a shallow end perfect for children, comfortable sunbeds and a tented shaded area with a Rattan sofa and chairs for relaxing .

The Andalucia / Almeria Province region

The South eastern region of Andalucia is still unspoilt and maintains much of the traditional spanish lifestyle. Rubio is the oriental gateway to granada and the stunning mountain scenery is breathtaking.

Velez Blanco - 10 minutes drive from Casa de Catalina, with the Castillo of the Marquis de Velez overlooking the fertile Blanco valley, and eastern approaches to the Sierra Navada.

Fresh Water springs abound with the many drinking fountains in town beautifully decorated with beautifully decorated tiles

Beaches - The Costa Calida with many fine beaches is within 45 minutes drive.
Mojacar is a more commercial beach resort to the south and is within an hour's drive.

Granada - For flamenco aficianados the Historic town of Granada is only an hour and a half's drive through beautiful countryside - where you can visit the Alhambra surely one of the wonders of the world!

Maria - For serious mountain walkers this is the place to start!Head of into the hills for serious hiking.
Also the botanical gardens just beyond the village have walks of 15, 50 and 90 minute duration

The Velez Rubio area

A visit to the 200 year old street Market every Saturday is not to be missed- fabulous for foodies - the olive stall is a winner, or if you have a sweeter tooth the Churro stalls are a must! Everything from paella rings and traditional pottery to music and herbal remedies can be purchased!
The Local Museum - A surprisingly impressive museum with a host of information about local history and on the civil war.
Cave paintings - 4km outside of the town, these date back to 4,000BC and show the Indalo man, a mysterious figure, in season guided walks of the caves are available.

The 18th century baroque churches - the oversized church of La Encarnation dominates the town square, the most impressive of all of the many churches of this style in town.
Bars and Restaurants - No visit is complete without trying the fabulous local food, sitting in the square with a cool drink and some tapas where people watching is a local past time.
If you like cake you will love "Artesana" a wonderful local patisserie selling delicious cakes! The bakeries dotted around town open early and bake bread 3 times a day.

Fiesta! - The main Velez Rubio fiesta is in July and early August - but the surrounding villages have fiesta's on for most of July and August.

The Rubio fiesta is opened by a huge parade, with floats music and firework displays.Bring earplugs!

The Easter celebrations are nationally very important and grandly celebrated and last for several days - with parades and floats drawn by exotically dressed religious societies.

Christmas is an amazing time to visit - the sun is usually still shining and the National exhibition of Diorama (Nativity scenes) are held in the Village, the festivities are based around the Kings day on the 6th January where there are processions and celebrations.

We are a realistic 5 minutes drive from the centre of Velez Rubio, which is served by 3 airports:
Almeria and Murcia both just over 1 hours drive away and Alicante which is 2 hours.

Goldcar do good deals for travellers and often give an upgrade, there are several stopping points on the journey from Alicante, either and the well equiped service stations - that have restaurants - or if travelling from Alicante there is a burger king at murcia (1hr away) with a childs play area. For details please email when booking and we can forward details of stopping points.

We can arrange airport pick up at a cost of 100 Euros

Easyjet, Ryan air and monarch serve all 3 airports.
