The name Escondite means 'Secret Hideaway or Special Place' in Spanish which we feel is just what the farmhouse has to offer.

On the cooler nights a large log burner is in the lounge with free fire wood to use and snuggle up in front of.

The patio area has a outdoor table and chairs, BBQ and Seating area. Ideal for sunbathing, Al Fresco dining or taking in the stunning views whilst relaxing. This area gets the sun from morning till noon and the perfect spot for star gazing over the nights sky.

We then have the pool area which is a 6m round Natural filter pool which means no damage to swimwear, sore eyes or dry skin form going in the pool. It is a depth of 1.3m which stays lovely and warm right up until in the cooler season. This area gets the sun all day long and sun shade is provided via a raised pagoda area, parasols and the boarding trees. There is plenty of sunbathing and seating area with a raised area for bbq's and al fresco dining.

The Andalucia region

The area of Andalucía has a rich history - the Moors played a huge part, leaving their mark in extraordinary buildings around the region. Columbus sailed from here, and the natural wonders of Andalucia are boundless, from rare birds to wonderful foods.

From impressive cathedrals to large national parks there is something for everyone here.

The climate around the Almeria area is known as one of the driest in Europe. With hot summers and mild winters you can almost guarantee your stay will be a pleasant one.

Known for it's wildlife, most notably birds, along the Almeria coastline is a number of wildlife sanctuaries. The best two are "de Adra Natural Reserve" which is hidden away amongst the growing tents, and "Punta Entinas-Sabinar Natural Area" near Roquetes de Mar. These are havens for aquatic birds migrating here from all over Europe.

The famous "Indalo Man" and the “Cuevos de Los Letreros” was also discovered in nearby Los Velez, a famous cave painting which has been adopted as the symbol of the whole region.

Velez Rubio

Escondite is situated amongst 192,ooo sq meters of stunning olive and almond growths, interwoven with walkers and mountain biking paths that link up the surrounding villages. In mid to late February the hills become a sea of pink and white blossoms as the almond trees bloom. The roads leading up to the property and the surrounding area are also ideal for road cycling, with some international teams choosing nearby Mojacar for their winter training.

The area is also ideal for keen astronomers, as there is next to no light pollution, so you have panoramic views of the night sky.

Nearby there are a mixture of small towns and rural farming villages, where your needs are catered for. There are well stocked supermarkets nearby and there are weekly markets held in both Velez Rubio and Heurcal Overa where you can buy anything from clothing to herbs and spices. There are also numerous pharmacies, tourist information offices, restaurants and cafes. Within 40 minutes is also Mojacar which boasts sandy beaches, a vibrant sea front and a historical mountain top village.

Within an hours drive is the city of Murcia, which on its outskirts is home to a large retail area with a large supermarket, various shops and restaurants and leisure facilities. Murcia is also home to "Aqua Natura" and "Terra Natura", a large water and animal park that is a fantastic day out. The animal park is open all year round but please note, the water park is only open in the summer months.

For the petrol heads we are also within reach of some world class famous motor racing circuits such as Cartagena, Almeria and Guadix where both 2 and 4 wheeled teams' race and test throughout the year and many track day companies' use throughout the winter. There is also 4x4 tours and other adventure activities offered by 'Adventure Velez' in nearby Velez Rubio.

"A bit of heaven"

A great location in the Spanish mountains with the freshest air and great views. It's so peaceful, relaxing and calming you have no choice but to chill. It is spotless and has everything you need and more, they have thought of everything. We did 2 taster nights and the food was fantastic, plentiful and great value. I highly recommend the BBQ night and dare you to eat it all. AM-AZ-ING! Better than most restaurants and all home cooked. Nothing is to much trouble for Kim and James, they are so helpful and friendly and go beyond their line of duty to make sure your stay is pleasurable, comfortable and memorable. They don't interfere with your stay, you will only see them if you want to. Sunbathing by the pool in the middle of the mountains with nothing but the birds singing was so tranquil and when I opened my eyes and looked at the views I had to pinch myself to make sure I was really here. Lived my stay, would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

Thank you so much for your kind words Norma. We will hope to see you back here soon. I have a new dessert I think you may like :) Once again many thanks :) Kim and James

"Absolutely Magnificent"

Hi,
We stayed at Escondite for 4 nights in May and i cannot wait to return. Perfect tranquility, perfect accommodation, perfect hosts, perfect surroundings. The cottage has absolutely eveything you could possibly need for a self catered stay and some! The cottage is lovely, it really is a proper little home from home. I cannot fault it in any way at all. Kim and James have thought of everything and are such attentive hosts, they are there if you need them and are invisible if you don't. We also booked a couple of taster nights which are excellent value for money. The food is proper home cooked and is in abundance. You will leave here feeling fully satisfied and packed to the gunnels. Kim puts her heart and soul in to her cooking and it shows remarkably. The next time i go i will book the taster for every night! These two are very lovely people and have a very lovely and unique holiday rental here. It truly is a secret hideaway. I wish Kim and James all the very best and i will be seeing them again as soon as i can get booked. Escondite it was a pure pleasure. Jen D
