The Costa del Sol region

Comares, our local town hall, (15mins) is one of the highest pueblo blancos in Andalucia and stands 739 meters above sea level. It dates from medieval times and has a history of rebellion against Muslim and Christian rulers. Of interest to visitors are a series of ceramic plaques which depict the pueblos history. Medieval arches and foot print paving tiles which are a guide to the main streets.

There is also an old Moorish fortress, once a Roman military outpost, known as La Tahona where two turrets are still intact.

Velez Malaga

Velez Malaga, the capital town of Axarquia, is 14 km and the beach town of Torre del Mar is a further 4 km. Velez origins go back to Phoenician and Carthaginian times. The town was also important in both Roman times, when it was known as 'Menoba' and in Moorish times when as Ballax-Malaga (Fortress of Malaga) it had an important role in subduing what was always a turbulent region. In 1487 the Moors were finally ejected by King Ferdinand however they left behind a rich culture of architecture and the town also has many fine examples of 16th and 17th century palaces.

Velez also offers many good bars and restaurants and shopping. The shopping mall, El Ingenio, has many shops including the hypermarket Eroski where you can find almost anything. Also in the complex are many restaurants, bowling alley and cinemas.

For everyday needs the local village has two supermarkets, banks, bars, a street market on wednesday and is only ten minutes away. Also the village has a 24hr medical centre.

"relaxing, no problems, great hosts, perfect"

as other reviews have said, the hosts, michael and chris were amazing. the apartment is fantastic, serene and perfect for a relaxing, romantic getaway with the utmost privacy.

the pool is amazing and much needed on hot days, ipod dock, kindle, wifi and dvd player great additions and the air con system in the bedroom is of good quality (having had air con advertised before on other holidays and having very poor systems this one is very good)

everything you could need is provided and the welcome pack is a great addition. when we stayed we visited comares, torre del mar and torrox costa and i would recommend visiting all 3 but most certainly comares. the views from the top are staggering and something you must view for yourself to appreciate!

a massive thanks to the guys for making our first holiday together a wonderful one :)

Thanks so much, it was a pleasure to have you staying here and so pleased that your first of many holidays together was such a success. We look forward to seeing you again.

"Just the job,.....as it say's on the box"

Chris & Michael, well done! It's exactly what we needed, especially after our unfortunate arrival.
We had a slight mishap with a faulty handbrake on our hire car, the sympathy and assistance was both much needed and eagerly given. The beers in the fridge did help a little to de stress us both.Thank you once again.
We wanted peace, tranquillity, privacy, views, we got that all plus birdlife and some wildlife (Chris) and then there was that strange cockerel as well.
The villa, pool, the ambiance, great all of it.

Thank you both for taking the time to write this great review and I hope all is sorted out with the car hire company. We look forward to seeing you again soon.

"Relaxing time in a cosy property"

We were welcomed with open arms by Chris and Michael. They showed all the corners of the property and its amenities. There was a welcome package as well which helped us through the first day. We stayed often on the nice terrace, to eat, to read or just to relax. During the colder evenings we used the fire inside: this gave as more than enough warmth before going to bed.
The house is well situated: close to Comares, the highest white village in Andalucia. On Sunday 12 January we attended a procession for which the whole village semmed to be mobilized: very impressive.
Overall, a very good property and nice and helpful owners!

Thank you both for taking the time to write this review and so pleased you enjoyed yourselves and relaxed. Did you take the sunshine with you?!! Apart from a few days it's been a little dull. We look forward to welcoming you again. Best wishes, Chris and Michael.

"Not enough stars on trip advisor to rate it, needs at least eleven"

I f you need to get away from it all then this is the place for you, if you want to shop or site see then its the place for you to. A warm Hola from Chris and Michael when you arrive, with a much needed welcome pack so you can rest up on your first day without having to worry about food shopping. Having to write this is a double edged sword, I want to tell, what a wonderful holiday stay this is but I also want to keep it a secret.. But in all honesty the guys deserve all the praise they get, I think it is going to be really hard to book Los Algarrobos soon so do it now.
THANK YOU FOR A WONDERFUL TIME IN SPAIN
JOSE AND MARK

eleven star guests like you make it all worthwhile! It was a great pleasure to have had you staying here and we can't wait to see the photos. Many thanks and we look forward to meeting you again, Chris and Michael.

"Little slice of heaven in real Spain"

We had a fantastic 10 night stay Los Algarrobos and can't recommend it enough! Chris and Michael have truly created a beautiful, tranquil place to relax and explore an area of Spain that is far removed from the tourist traps the Costa Del Sol is known for.
The local area is very Spanish, with the nearby village of Benamargosa stocking all the essentials and you're a short drive away from a large hyper market with all the groceries you need to keep the BBQ going and some great clothes and gift shops.
The property has everything you could need including beach towels and the welcome pack is a great touch, which would do for lunch or breakfast and enough milk/beer/wine to get you started. The wi-fi access was strong and reliable which we really made use of. We also made great use of the BBQ and found that our holiday was far less expensive than we'd budgeted for because we rarely needed to eat out.
We'd recommend using the hire car company the Chris suggested because we were ripped off horribly by the one we found ourselves. Be aware you will also be driving down a short track to get to the property, but there is parking and a turning circle once you reach it. Chris's directions from the airport we also really helpful and clear. Would't rely on satnav once you've got off the motorway.
We visited Torre Del Mar for the beach in the day and ate in Padre Pio for dinner one night, the service here was excellent and the food lovely. It's a very pleasant town with a long promenade and easy parking.
We also visited Fuengirola Zoo which was an hour drive away and Aqualand in Torremolinos - the former was fantastic value and a really lovely space to wander, and the latter was as you would expect, quite expensive with lots of people, but worth it if you like water parks. It;s a good location to go exploring from becuase of the access to the motorways.
We also visited Lake Vinuela which is over the mountain or down to Torre Del Mar and on the A road (which might be longer but less traumatic on little cars), we ate at Chez Spice, and it was probably one of the nicest Indian meals I've had anywhere in the world and the view was stunning.
One of the highlights of the trip was eating Table Mountain restaurant in Comares, which is about 20 minute drive away. We went back twice and the service was impeccable with multi-lingual staff, excellent house wines and a menu that made me wish we could've gone back for a third visit.
All in all a fantastic holiday, we can't thank Chris and Michael enough for looking after us and can't wait to go back next year.

Wow!! I think I can take that as you enjoyed yourselves!! Many thanks for taking the time to do this review and we really look forward to seeing you again.

"The only property in Costa De Sol we would return to."

The description of the property was accurate and the photos were a true representation. The owners Chris and Michael were very welcoming and happy to help with anything at all but also very keen to keep a low profile. The property was very private and exactly what we needed for a relaxing week in the sun with plenty of interesting walks in both the mountains and along the river bed.
We would definitely return here if we wished to return to the Los Perez area as it ticked all the boxes for us - tranquil, private but not remote, dining area and pool just outside the door. Having stayed in 8 different properties over a period of years this is the only one that met all our criteria.

thank you both for taking the time to write such a lovely review and we hope to see you again soon either here or maybe as neighbours?!!

"Perfect private getaway"

My wife and I can't speak highly enough of Los Algarrobos. We arrived mid afternoon and Chris and Michael were there to greet us and made us feel very welcome from the outset. The apartment is very clean and well equipped with Stereo, TV, Kindle and a large array of DVD's. Chris and Michael Provided a welcome pack that had all the necessities such as eggs, bread, bacon and the all important beer and wine amongst other essentials. We spent a wonderful 10 days in and around the local area. There is a local supermarket that is about 10 mins drive where you will find most things or there is a massive shopping centre that sells EVERYTHING and I mean EVERYTHING that is about 25 mins drive just outside Torre Del Marr. The beach at Torre Del Marr is a must. Malaga is lovely to shop in but Torre Del Marr is the place for sun worshipping. The shopping in Malaga must only be done after 5pm when Siesta breaks and the whole city comes alive. The markets open on the marina front and the restaurants thrive. If you want to stay more local to the villa there is a lovely restaurant called table mountain in Commares. If you drive up the mountain towards Commares and instead of turning right at the top, turn left and its about 3km along that road.
If you are looking for a relaxing time with nothing to bother you then this is the place. Easy to get to and in beautiful surroundings. We are already planning our return trip.
Thanks to Chris and Michael for making our first holiday together very special.
Ben & Claire.

It makes our day to read reviews from our guests as we try hard to make your holidays perfect and it's so good to read that we are achieving this. Thank you both and also thanks to "Mum" for finding us!!
