Villa Sirena
About the home
Villa Sirena is a luxury villa located between Velez-Malaga and the village of Arenas. A beautiful, secluded sea view villa, it offers spacious accommodation spread over two floors, and is luxuriously furnished and equipped to provide your ideal home in the sun. It is furnished to a high standard, with solid pine beds, leather sofas and accacia wood dining suite and coffee table.
It sleeps 8 people in two en-suite double bedrooms (king size beds), and two twin bedrooms. The King size and Twin beds are all solid pine. In addition there is a single sprung sofa bed in a separate room downstairs, and a fold out bed - more suitable for a child, extending the capacity to 10 (plus 2 travel cots). The villa boasts two lounge areas, one with a dining area, a fully fitted kitchen and a large covered verandah for dining al fresco. The nursery pack is offered free of charge, including two travel cots.
The swimming pool is an L-shape pool, and averages 9 x 4 metres and is accessed by two gentle steps. The main part of the pool is approx 1 metre - 2 metres in depth. There is also a large shallow section. The pool was designed with children in mind, but also to appeal to the more serious swimmer.
Air-conditioning is available on request in the double bedroom upstairs, and in the main lounge/dining room (which also has ceiling fans). Both twin bedrooms have ceiling fans. There are two further free standing fans.
The villa is located in a brilliant area for exploring the region, including the caves of Nerja, Malaga, Granada and the many picturesque local whitewashed villages dotted around the area. The location is ideal for golfers, walkers, artists, bird watchers, star gazers and for anyone wanting to unwind and chill in an idyllic setting. The Costa del Sol region
This area, known as Axarquia is known for the best climate in Europe, with wonderful beaches lapped by the calm waters of the Mediterranean. The coastal area is sheltered by the magnificent mountain ranges inland.
Dotted around the countryside are beautiful whitewashed villages and reminders of the regions Moorish past.
Location wise, it is ideal for exploring further afield - Granada and the Alhambra palace, Marbella and the marina of Puerto Banus, Ronda with its fantastic gorge and magnificent bull ring, Gibraltar and its rock apes, Nerja and the caves, Cordoba, Sevilla and for the really adventurous, a trip to Morocco.
The Velez Malaga / Arenas area
The villa is situated about mid-point between Velez-Malaga and the whitewashed village of Arenas, a 10 minute drive either direction. The village offers a bank with a cashpoint, a supermarket, a chemist (24 hrs), a few shops, bars and restaurants, an internet facility and there is also a small market once a week on Wednesday. A bus runs daily to and from Velez-Malaga, passing very close to the villa. It is an easy 10 minute drive to the coast, the Ingenio supermarket complex and the Aquapark, avoiding the main town of Velez-Malaga.
The village of Arenas is a true Spanish village, dating back to Moorish times. The castle Bentomiz whose ruins still stand today, was one of the last to fall when the Christians finally drove the Moors from Andalucia. Explore the winding streets and marvel at the friendliness of the local people.
Velez-Malaga is the main town of the Axarquia region, and has historic origins. It has numerous shops, bars and restaurants.
Torre del Mar is a modern resort town with a fantastic promenade and wonderful beaches. The promenade stretches from Torre del Mar to the Marina at Caletta, a pleasant place to stop for a 'menu del dia' (menu of the day) at lunchtime. Torre del Mar has a market on a Thursday morning, and Caletta on a Saturday morning. Sun loungers and parasols are available for hire on the beaches.
Between Torre del Mar and Velez-Malaga is a large shopping centre, El Ingenio. There is a huge supermarket, Eroski, open Monday - Saturday until 10pm at night. There are also several shops, bars and restaurants. In this shopping centre there are several mobile phone shops if you wish to get a Spanish sim card during your stay - make sure your phone is not locked to a network!
The waterpark, open in the summer months is located between Velez-Malaga and Torre del Mar.
Baveira golf, a 27 hole competition course is located near Caletta. Pre book at www.baveiragolf.com
Many other courses can be found along the Costa del Sol, a region famous for its golf courses.
Nerja, famous for its caves and the balcon de Europa is about 25 minutes from Torre del Mar.
If you wish to visit the Alhambra in Granada, it is recommended that you book in advance during the busy summer months - www.alhambratickets.com. Do not forget to factor in the drive time to Granada, allow at least 2 hours to be sure as it is across the other side of Granada.
Malaga itself is well worth a visit, one of the highlights being the Pablo Picasso museum.

This is a lovely villa with all the mod cons. It's very spacious with plenty of room for little ones to run about. The villa is perched on the side of a hill and has amazing views of the valley and right down to the sea - beautiful day and night. This is not somewhere to go if you're looking for lots of nightlife as its a bit of a trek to the nearest town and the road to get to it is not for the faint-hearted. However, if you're looking for total relaxation the villa is perfect. |

We stayed at Villa Sirena for 2 weeks in August. We travelled with another family with 5 children between us. There is plenty of space in the villa and the second lounge came in really useful as a 'common room' for the kids to hang out when it got a bit too hot. The bbq was a really good size for a gas version with hot plate. The pool is a good size, perfect for little splashers and serious swimmers. It is probably the best equipped kitchen I have ever come across in holiday villas with everything from garlic crushers to lemon squeezers to coffee machine and plenty of sharp knives. Also plenty of cutlery and cups/plates etc and plastic stuff for the kids. The air conditioning came in handy so would suggest paying extra for it - the ceiling fans and free standing fans were very good too - it was comfortable at night. Plenty of seating inside and out. The location is really good, great views of the sea and very close to a traditional Spanish village where we topped up on supplies and had some lovely meals out. The Villa Rep was really really good - she did a very good welcome pack for us as she knew there was a bank holiday and we'd struggle to get to the shops. Then she escorted us to the local village so we could stock up on some beers etc. There was a minor issue with the dvd player and pool lights but they were dealt with efficiently and satisfactorily. Overall, we had a great holiday. I would recommend it to friends. The owner is a lovely lady, very honest and very helpful with information. She can make available lots of equipment for younger children like cots/car seats/high chairs, even character duvets (which my ten year old took a shine too !). |
