Las Terrazas del Jardin Nazari are placed surrounding a fantastic recreation of a Nasrid garden, very similar to the existing one near the Alhambra. This heavenly space is full up with fragrant flowers, cypresses, hedges and wide walk and rest areas.
The Costa Tropical region


Nestled in the fertile valley of the Guadalfeo river, the picturesque white washed village of Velez de Benaudalla is located only 15 minutes drive from the popular Costa Tropical coastal towns of Salobrena and Almunecar, and 40 minutes, drive through the Lecrin Valley, to the snow covered Sierra Nevada mountains and ski resort.
Although Velez de Benaudalla is a very ancient and historic town, Velez de Benaudalla has an interesting mix of old and new Spain. Velez de Benaudalla is host to some excellent local tapas bars together with a variety of shops including grocery stores, bakers and a pharmacy.
Velez de Benaudalla is a very traditional Spanish mountain village and is brimming with the remains of its moorish past. The narrow streets of the old town with their pretty village houses are enchanting and reflect the towns rich history. The Nazari dynasty ruled the province of Granada for nearly 4 centuries and left behind a legacy of knowledge, gastronomy and according to legend, great treasures that are still to be discovered.
The Velez de Benaudalla / Las Terrazas del Jardin Nazari area
Within Velez de Benaudalla you will find the Casa Jardin Nazari, which was inspired by Granada architecture, and is generally considered to be the finest example of Hispanic-Muslim gardens in Spain, and is certainly on a par with the Generalife Gardens in the Alhambra Palace in Granada. You will also find other examples of its heritage and historical importance, two of the finest being the Arabic fortress and the Church of the Rosario.
Situated at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains, and just below the Las Alpujarras and to the south of the Lecrin Valley, Velez de Benaudalla is bubbling over with adventure activities which can be found close by. For hill walkers, bird watchers or wild flower and fauna enthusiasts the local countryside holds a wealth of treasures within the amazing local scenery. More organised activities like hot air ballooning, horse riding, mountain biking to name but a few, are all readily available making Velez de Benaudalla one of the most exciting and interesting holiday destinations of southern Spain.
The apartment is 10 minutes away from Salobrena Beach and 15 minutes from Almunecar Beach. Both are lively little towns with a good selection of tapas bars and restaurants. The entire coastline is brimming with coastal resorts which you can spend your time exploring.
Sierra Nevada Ski Resort is also only 40 minutes away by car and defies many concenpts associated with skiing. Located barely a stone's throw from the Mediterranean coast, it has practically guaranteed sunshine, the best Spring snow conditions in Europe, and is still reasonably priced compared to many of its European counterparts.
As one of Europe's highest resorts it is (perhaps surprisingly) very snowsure and typically has a long season. Traditionally the season starts around the end of November running through to the end of April or even into the first week of May. The longest season on record was the winter of 2008/9 which ran from the 15th November 2008 until the 17th May 2009.
Sierra Nevada literally means "Snowy Mountain Range", and it includes some of the highest peaks in Europe, not to mention the highest concentration of peaks over 3,000m in the country. The Mulhacen at 3,482m is the Iberian Peninsula's highest.
