Enquire nowThe Costa de la Luz region
A very rural part of Spain with proud landowners keen to preserve the area meaning no over development like so many other regions. This is where the bulls are bred for fight, sherry and brandy bodegas are in plenty and fantastic unspoilt beaches stretch the whole way down the Atlantic coast from Portugal to the most southern tip of Spain.
Morocco is visible from the roof terraces in Vejer with the town and region once being occupied by the moors. The moorish influence is apparent everywhere in the striking buildings, delicious vibrant food and colourful people.
A great climate with the long hot summers and mild winters. So many sunny during the year.
There are a wealth of places to visit and things to do in the region - Cadiz, Sevilla, Tarifa, Jerez all reachable by car, Surfing, Horseriding, Cycling and lots more.
All towns in the region start their feria (festival) season in April and these run in various towns through to the end of August.
The Vejer de la Frontera area
Cadiz - 30 minutes by car - A charming, atmospheric, picturesque peninsular town steeped in history. Stunning architecture with narrow cobbled streets opening out onto atmospheric squares. Unlike other port towns Cadiz feels immediately relaxed and easy going. The people (Gaditanos) are liberal and tolerant possessing a wonderful sense of humour. Explore the artists or fishermans quarter, stop for tapas in one of the many great eateries then walk it off with a stroll along the promenade which runs all the way round the edge of the town.
Tarifa - 30 mins by car - Very popular town for wind sport fanatics. Old historic centre, lovely surrounding beaches, fantastic views of Morocco and the Straits of Gibraltar. The Tangier ferry goes from here (35 mins crossing).
Jerez - 55 mins by car - Take a tour round one of the sherry bodegas or watch the famous Andalusian dancing horses at the Royal Equestrian School. Very attractive, wealthy town with some fantastic restaurants, museums and theatre.
Seville - 1 1/2 hrs by car - Cosmopolitan, vibrant, colourful city situated along the banks of the Guadalquivir. Many historic places of interest, a tapas haven and a delight for shopaholics.
If you just fancy beaching it and don't want to be in the car over 15 minutes try Conil, Los Canos De Mecca, Zahora or Zahara De Los Atunes for delightful beaches and places to have lunch. El Palmar is the closest beach to Vejer, a beautiful long stretch of sand favoured by surfers. Beach bars, restaurants and a small supermarket.
Locally there are several walks and bike rides around Vejer to take advantage of. With natural parks to the north and south there is plenty to be explored. The Parque Natural to the north of Cadiz is one of Europe's best known bird watching areas. Visit the tourist information office for more information.
Horse Riding - Montenmedio Country Club (5 mins by car) has a professional equestrian centre and holds important trials and events bi-annually. There are also stables nearby and in Tarifa where you can go out for a days trek in the countryside.
Wind Sports - surf/kite school at El Palmar and severa at Tarifa.

We stayed here for 4 nights in October. We travelled as a couple. We were met by the housekeeper. On the site we order the welcome kit which was €20 when we arrived it consisted of wine, bread cheese crisps and other handy snacks which came in handy. The apartment is up steep steps although not too many of them, it has two bedrooms opening into each other so fine for a family maybe tight for two couples also the bathroom is off one of the bedrooms. This did not bother us as we were a couple, the apartment was lovely and in the style you would expect for such a town in spain the Kitchen was on the top floor and opened onto a very large balcony which has fantastic views and is a lovely place to sit and read a book. It is located very well for walking around exploring the town we usually started in the cafe to the left of the main entrance of the apartment it has fantastic mojitos and laid back style very retro. Also try the tapas I had a fig one it was great. Then the pub on the corner another nice place I think it was paidars. The apartment is prefect for families and couples. we varely sat inthe sitting room as the kitchen and roof terrace were so good. |
