About this location
The Abruzzo region
ABRUZZO - 30 percent of Abruzzo is protected by environmental laws. No other region in Europe can boast as much. Not for nothing is called "the region of parks". Three national parks, a regional park and many protected areas and nature reserves. In a region so it seems natural that the capital is called L'Aquila. Dominated by an imposing sixteenth-century castle (which houses the National Museum of Abruzzo), L'Aquila has splendid civic and religious monuments, medieval and Renaissance art. On the coast of Abruzzo (which boasts frequented seaside resorts) stands Pescara, birthplace of Gabriele D'Annunzio (whose birthplace is now a small and evocative museum). At Chieti there is an important National Archaeological Museum, known (and rewarded) for the modernity and effectiveness of its exhibitions. The "highlight" of the museum is the Warrior of Capistrano, a funerary statue of the sixth century BC, found in the province of L'Aquila in 1934. A not to be missed Teramo the stupendous fifteenth-century Antepedium (inside the cathedral), the great goldsmith of Abruzzo, Nicola da Guardiagrele. But of architectural and artistic treasures Abruzzo is rich in surprising ways, almost as much natural treasures and folk traditions (such as the "festival of the serpents" of Cocullo, every first Sunday of May attracts thousands of people in the tiny country).
You reach the " Il Glicine" coming from A-14 to Broad-North. Turn left, follow the signs Gissi, Carpineto Sinello along the valley of the river Sinello.
Immersed in a lush green, continue through vineyards, olive groves and orchards. After a few miles you encounter a roundabout, follow the arrow to Gissi passing on the right bank of the river. Once past the small industrial area will reach a junction Gissi, right Carpineto Sinello reached Carpineto Sinello, you will find a stele dedicated to Our Lady, to the right enter the city center. You are driving along Via San Martino at the end Piazza G. Marconi and here come to " Il Glicine " where you will be greeted with such warmth.
The first news concerning Carpineto Sinello, a small town known for its beautiful portal of the church of S. Michael the Archangel and especially for the ducal castle that characterizes the profile of the village, is contained in the Catalogus Baronum: In this document the twelfth century. read that at the time was a pheudum ij militum (fief of two knights) in the domain of Robert of Monteferrante by permission of Symon, conte di Sangro.
We do not know if the occupation of the hill on which the village stands today, in a dominant position according to the classical scheme of entrenchment of the Middle Ages, dates back to a period still more remote, but we certainly have considerable traces of ancient attendance on both sides of the valley through which flows the Sinello.
The human presence in the territory of Carpineto is attested to at least the sixth century. BC, as is clear from the history given by G. Column a few found objects in the 50s in Contrada Policorvo on the left side of the river. In this area, have been found suspended from a bronze disk decorated with etched concentric rims to punch, female ornamentation typical of the Archaic period, and materials relating to a burial partially damaged by agricultural work which, judging from the vessels in it content, can not descend beyond the early fifth century. BC The tomb-type, earth graves, interred housed a male whose outfit consisted of weapons (spear and dagger) and various ceramic objects among which we highlight the typical large olla with four horizontal handles and a small amphora belly pod-forked with two handles.
