Home description
Our villa is approx 2 years old, well equipped, with the accent on safety for children. Definitely, NO SMOKING inside the villa, but smoking is permitted in the verandah and balconies. It overlooks woodlands, vineyards and has a view of the Black Sea. The villa has 3 floors and is in good order, some would say luxurious. There is a WC with wash basin on each floor. All these, the bath and the shower rooms are tiled up to 2 metres. There are laminate floors in the bedrooms and lounge, whilst the kitchen and the rest of the villa have ceramic floors. For child safety there are 3 stair gates to keep children off the stairs and a further gate on the balcony exit. So if you keep these gates shut you can rest easy. The pool is fenced across from the house, but you need to keep the gates closed & locked. The charm of our Villa Oriole is its setting. Each balcony faces West, so the evenings can be spent watching the setting sun & wildlife. In the spring nightingales can be heard all around the village – truly magical. In the summer Golden Orioles make their beautiful fluting call, and sometimes can be seen darting among the trees. This is why we have named the villa Oriole. 297 is the plot number. Sunbathe on a lounger by the pool, take a dip in the pool or relax in the shade of the large veranda or the cherry trees when it gets too warm. All linen, towels and beach towels are provided for your stay and you will have the services of our local English speaking managers. Broadband service is installed and the monthly rental included, but you will need your own laptop. There are 4 spare adaptors for English 13 amp plugs. The TV is satelite by ITV Partners and receives BBC World, European channels and EuroSport. Bulgarian channels often show English films. Apart from the journey from airport to Villa Oriole 297, you do not need to get into another vehicle – just chill out! Except maybe a bus ride into Asparouhovo or Varna for a little sightseeing or shopping.

The Black Sea Coast region
The area has a typical continental climate providing long hot summers and short cold winters. The local area is steeped in history and archaeology, why not visit some of the many museums in Varna . The busy resort of Golden Sands is just 20 minutes’ away from Varna. Near to Rakitnika you can see vineyards and visit distilleries, where the local people make Rakia. For the very brave – try bungee jumping from the Asparouhovo Bridge on Fridays. Apart from the simple substantial meals to found in the local bar/cafes, there are restaurants in Veteran (a costal resort – 10 minutes by car) and on the way to Varna region. The Varna municipality, only twenty minutes’ drive away, has countless places to eat foods from around the world. Whether local or in the resorts you can eat and drink the very best at prices you will not believe.
Varna / Rakitnika area
Rakitnika is a village by the Black Sea coast, just south of Varna. The village has one main road and inter-connecting sandy lanes, our villa is ½ mile from the main road, so it is very safe for children. The village is very large and has many residential houses all on a network of sandy tracks; this makes it very safe as it is unsuitable for vehicles to exceed 10 / 15 mhp. If you would like to see photographs of the surrounding area, please ask. Rakitnika is a Bulgarian village, but a few English families have settled here, alongside Russian and European residents. You can walk in the woods and spot the varied wildlife and birds. Beach fishing or paragliding and horse riding are all available locally. The local stores will enable you to eat and drink at the villa, too!
How to get there
Rakitnika is 20 minutes by taxi from Varna International Airport, you can now fly direct from most regional airports. We will arrange to collect you from Varna Airport. Car hire can be arranged in advance and the car of your choice will be waiting for you at the airport with an English speaking person to give you easy instructions for your 20 minute route to the villa. This will be the cheapest car hire. We invite you to check with us and others on the web. Apart from the journey from airport to Villa Oriole 297, you do not need to get into another vehicle – just chill out! Except maybe a bus ride into Asparouhovo or Varna for a little sightseeing or shopping.

Further details indoors: There are 3 hairdryers, the 2 sofa beds are doubles, and there are a total of 3 WC's. There are 2 baby travel cots and potties/ toilet seats for 2 children. There are 2 high chairs of the travel type that need to be strapped into a plastic chair. The Villa has 3 floors. On the top floor there are three bedrooms - one with a double bed, one with 2 single beds & one smaller room with 2 bunk beds. On the Ground Floor there is a large bedroom with a double bed & a double sofa bed. The middle floor combines the Lounge, Dining, Kitchen areas. It is possible for 2 + 1 more persons to have a comfortable night, because this area has a double sofa bed and a single sofa bed chair. All linen is provided.
Further details outdoors: The main balcony area has a plastic table and 6 chairs. There is also a smaller balcony on the top floor with plastic table and 4 chairs. On the ground floor there is a large verandah along side the pool. This area has plastic table and 6 chairs. Around the pool/clover lawn there are 6 sun loungers. We want you to make yourselves at home: pick cherries, plums or figs when they are in season, take a walk in the woods or wander for 20 minutes down to the simple sandy beach, where you will find a bar/café serving snacks and drinks. In 10 minutes you can walk to El Toro mini-market. There is also a small family-owned shop and café at the end of the sandy lane, where Simeon & Lenar will make you very welcome for drinks or simple meals – try Lenar’s wonderful chicken soup! If you prefer a night on the town, Varna, with plenty of clubs and restaurants is 30 minutes’ bus ride away or our managers can arrange for a taxi to take you there. For those not wishing to drive you can rely on the excellent and frequent bus service into Asparouhovo or Varna, which will cost approximately 90 stotinki (£0.33, 0.45€)

A non-refundable deposit of 20% is required to reserve your booking. The balance in full, is to paid no later than 8 weeks before your arrival.
Conditions
A security deposit of £300 (400€), which will be refunded on completion of rental providing there are no damages, also is to paid no later than 8 weeks before your arrival.

2007 Sept Dear Rob and Margaret. Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday! You were so helpful arranging the people carrier and child seats for us. The house is a wonderfully safe place for young children (we had 2 toddlers in our party). We found the house equipped with everything we needed and more and were thrilled to see golden orioles, bee-eaters, swallows, owls, jays, shrikes etc. all from the balcony of your villa; not to mention the stork migration! Wonderful countryside. We have no hesitation in highly recommending your villa, especially for wildlife enthusiasts and those with children. Thanks again. 2007 October We meant to complete your visitors’ book before we left on 27th October but unfortunately forgot. So hopefully you can add the following to your visitors’ book on our behalf: - Just a few lines to say how much we enjoyed our stay at your villa. Everything was in situ for our convenience, heating, air conditioning, Skype telephone, cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, toaster, dishwasher, television, washing machine and not forgetting the swimming pool. The nearest beach was just a short walk down a lane and through a wooded area where we found loads of shells. We also found a shop at the bottom of the road & although we didn't speak any Bulgarian they were most helpful and always managed to sort out our requests. There was a restaurant called Kamelia which was on the road to Varna were they served Bulgarian food which we found to be very good and also very cheap. We also went to a Chinese restaurant in the centre of Varna we found the food to be delicious and again the food & drink was very reasonably priced. Less than half of what you would pay in England. We visited a number of places - The Petrified Forest. This was a very unusual site with large rock formations that seemed to be growing out of the sandy soil. Difficult to comprehend how they ever got there. Please put some of my photographs in your visitors’ book for anyone staying at your villa to look at. The Monument "Founders of the Bulgarian State" at Shumen. This was an unbelievable monument & I hope you may be able to print a few of my pictures to put in your visitors book to show the enormity of monument. The fee to enter the monument was 3 Leva per person. Just over a British Pound so cheap and well worth a visit. We also went on a boat trip at Kamchia, along the river to the mouth of the sea. I can't remember the name of the area but perhaps Rob can add those details on our behalf. Once again many thanks for a most enjoyable 10 days at your villa. Glenys & Philip
