The Lombardy / Lake Como Area

In common with so much of Italy, Lake Como drips charm and romance - in ever increasing quantities since George Clooney purchased a few properties here. European writers, artists and composers 'discovered' the region in the 19th century and have been waxing lyrical ever since. Italians have always known about the lake however, as for centuries wealthy Milanese and Lombardians have escaped the pollution and the humidity of the cities on a Friday, for weekends spent sailing and sunbathing.
Or simply breathing. The deepest lake in Europe and the third largest in Italy, Lago di Como attracts with its backdrop of the pre-Alps, its sub-tropical climate and the visual contrasts in colours and textures. In the middle of the lakes, around Tremezzo and Bellagio, olive trees and orange trees will have you wondering if you aren't, after all, in Tuscany. The Mediterranean fishing villages on the shores of the lake and the blazing sunshine will have you wondering whether this isn't Liguria.

Varenna / Fiumelatte area

The apartment is in the village of Fiumelatte, part of the beautiful town of Varenna, just 1 km away on the Eastern shore of Lake Como. The property has been designed to take full advantage of the lakes premier view of the 'Golden Triangle' (Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna).

Varenna is home to Italy's shortest river, the Fiumelatte. Only 250 metres long, it rushes, frothy and milky-white (hence the name) down the rockface and crashes into the lake from the end of March to the end of October each year. And then it stops - just like that. Leonardo da Vinci climbed down to find out where the water came from (without success!), as recorded in his Codice Atlantico notebook.

Varenna is one of the most picturesque towns on the lake, its steep winding alleys lined with charming homes, flowering balconies and lace-curtained windows. Just above it is the ancient Castle of Vezio where Theodolinda, Queen of the Lombards, is said to have died in the 7th century. Two famed villas to visit her are Villa Cipressi, with terraced gardens cascading right down to the shores, and Villa Monastero, a true showcase.

Skiing in the area is bountiful with resorts such as Madesimo 1.15hr to the north and the loacl ski resort of Piani di Bobbio, only 40 minutes away. The international jet-set resort or St. Moritz is just 1 1/2 hours by car.

The interior finishings of the apartment are beautifully done, from the bleached-oak parquet floor to the elegant painted suede finish walls. It is fitted with all modern appliances to facilitate La Dolce Vita: A full kitchen allows you to cook your favourite Italian dishes, using fresh herbs available in the garden area. A built–in tile bath tub, big enough for two, lets you relax together in style. There is a flat wide screen TV with skycable and DVD player in the living area, framed by two large sliding glass doors to access the spectacular terrace, giving picture-postcard views of the lake throughout the apartment. The apartment has an underfloor heating system which keeps it warm during the colder season and centralized air-conditioning with individually controlled zones to keep it cool in the summer. It also has a private garage with automatic remote control doors. The property is accessed by elevator with private keys.

Further details outdoors:
A special feature of this apartment is that it has direct access to the amazing monumental fountain which runs down from the mountain. You can sit here in the private garden sipping wine, or dining in the shade of the cypress and palm trees while watching the water run through the fountain down to the lake, only a few metres below.

Cleaning Costs

There is a final cleaning cost of €70 when staying for one week & €90 when staying for two weeks with all bed-linen & towels included. If staying for two weeks or more – the bed-linen & towels will be refreshed after each week. All utility usage such as water, electricity & gas, are included in the rental price.

3 night break - 40% off weekly tariff / 4 night break - 30% off weekly tariff / 5 night break - 20% off weekly tariff / 6 night break - 10% off weekly tariff

Payments by Credit/Debit Card & Wire Transfer

There are no additional charges for credit or debit card payments. However, all bank transfer fees are the responsibility of the sender. To make a confirmed booking, you will be asked to fill in our booking form online and pay a 30% deposit. The remaining balance will then be due 6 weeks before arrival.
