A very luxurious apartment in the grounds of the historic Villa Capoana!

Villa Capoana was constructed in the year 1605 for the Duke of Mount Marciano in the locality of Fonte Uga in Fiumelatte. It was home to noble families for many generations until just recently, a part of it was reconstructed. In renovating, the construction company has ensured the preservation of the monumental fountain and garden area, which is a highlight of the historic villa and is now showpiece of the exclusive residence, which retains beauty and prestige.

This newly constructed apartment offers only the highest quality fixtures and fittings throughout, with no expense spared. The interior finishes of the apartment are beautifully done from the bleached-oak parquet floor to the soft painted suede finish walls. It is fitted with all modern appliances to facilitate this apartment with a fully-fitted luxury kitchen which allows you to cook your favourite Italian dishes, using fresh herbs available in the garden area. There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms, one of which has a 'built–in' tiled bath tub, big enough for two, letting you relax together in style.

There is also a flat screen HD TV with Sky movie channels and DVD player to the living area which is framed by two large sliding glass doors to access the spectacular terrace, giving picture-postcard views of the lake throughout the apartment and creating a superb entertaining area.

You can enjoy the heat of the sun on this spacious front terrace while preparing a barbeque on the outdoor grill, or stay cool under the shade of cypress trees, in the beautiful paved garden behind.

The two luxurious double bedrooms both enjoy flat screen HD TVs and enjoy direct access through French doors to the guests' spacious sunny terrace.

A special feature of this apartment is that it has direct access to the amazing monumental fountain which runs down from the mountain. You can sit here in the private garden sipping wine, or dining in the shade of the cypress and palm trees while watching the water run through the fountain down to the lake, only a few meters below.

The apartment has an under floor heating system which keeps it warm during the colder season and portable air conditioning units in each room to keep it cool in the summer. It also has a private garage with automatic remote control doors. The property is accessed by elevator with private keys. Fiumelatte train station is also very near the apartment.

This apartment is connected by (lockable) internal doors to Della Fontana Loft apartment. The two apartments can be rented together to create a unique 4- bathroom luxury complex sleeping up to 12. Alternatively, the Dolce Vita apartment can be rented as a one bedroom/one bathroom apartment without the studio bedroom and at a reduced price.

The apartment is in the village of Fiumelatte, part of the beautiful town of Varenna, just 1 km away on the Eastern shore of Lake Como. The property has been designed to take full advantage of the lakes premier view of the 'Golden Triangle' (Bellagio, Menaggio and Varenna).

Varenna is home to Italy's shortest river, the Fiumelatte. Only 250 meters long it rushes, frothy and milky-white (hence the name) down the rock face and crashes into the lake from the end of March to the end of October each year. And then it stops - just like that. Leonardo da Vinci climbed down to find out where the water came from (without success!), as recorded in his Codice Atlantico notebook.

The two famed villas of Villa Cipressi, with its terraced gardens cascading down to the shores & Villa Monastero, a true botanical showcase are located nearby.

With the mild climate & abundant sunshine & warmth right into the evening olive & cypress trees abound as well as many other varieties of lush, tropical plants, typical of the lake, creating a paradise perfect for getaways!

Skiing in the area is bountiful; resorts such as Madesimo, only 1.15hr north of Colico and the local ski resort of Piani di Bobbio, only 40 minutes away

The Lombardy region

In common with so much of Italy, Lake Como drips charm and romance - in ever increasing quantities since George Clooney purchased a few properties here. European writers, artists and composers 'discovered' the region in the 19th century and have been waxing lyrical ever since. Italians have always known about the lake however, as for centuries wealthy Milanese and Lombardians have escaped the pollution and the humidity of the cities on a Friday, for weekends spent sailing and sunbathing.

Or simply breathing. The deepest lake in Europe and the third largest in Italy, Lago di Como attracts with its backdrop of the pre-Alps, its sub-tropical climate and the visual contrasts in colours and textures. In the middle of the lakes, around Tremezzo and Bellagio, olive trees and orange trees will have you wondering if you aren't, after all, in Tuscany. The Mediterranean fishing villages on the shores of the lake and the blazing sunshine will have you wondering whether this isn't Liguria.

And then it stops - just like that. Leonardo da Vinci climbed down to find out where the water came from (without success!), as recorded in his Codice Atlantico notebook.

Varenna is one of the most picturesque towns on the lake, its steep winding alleys lined with charming homes, flowering balconies and lace-curtained windows. Just above it is the ancient Castle of Vezio where Theodolinda, Queen of the Lombards, is said to have died in the 7th century. Two famed villas to visit her are Villa Cipressi, with terraced gardens cascading right down to the shores, and Villa Monastero, a true showcase.

Fiumelatte is a sub division of the municipality of Varenna in the Province of Como, located in the Italian region of Lombardy. It's a small pretty village which has ancient narrow cobbled streets that wind between the old buildings and is situated approximately 2 km south of Varenna, The village lies on the eastern side of Lake Como and benefits from some lovely lakeside walks.

The houses in this village are situated to the foot of the steep slopes of the Fopp mount, which is over 1000 metres high and crowned by the ruins of Castle of Vezio.

The beautiful resort town of Varenna can be reached easily in 10 minutes on foot. The ancient medieval town is a mix of different styles with the original medieval centre has tree lined liberty style roads with period villas. The beautiful cobbled streets, pastel painted houses, flowering plants, lake view restaurants, boutique shops and romantic views of the Lake towards the western shore, makes this a fascinating and very romantic place to explore. Local attractions include Queen Theodolinda’s ancient castle of Vezio and the botanical lake front gardens at Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi. There are also many great restaurants and wine bars for you to try.

Skiing in the area is bountiful with resorts such as Madesimo 1.15hr to the north and the loacl ski resort of Piani di Bobbio, only 40 minutes away. The international jet-set resort or St. Moritz is just 1 1/2 hours by car.
