Forming part of a traditional lakeside house with rustic charm, the property has an elegant interior.
The apartment is located in Fiumelatte and is a 15 minutes walk (1km) from the entrance to Varenna. This area is very pretty, with steep winding alleys lined with charming homes, flowering balconies and lace-curtained windows. Fiumelatte is where Italy's shortest river can be found and it is possible here to climb up the mountain side and picnic by this river. It is also possible to take the mountain paths behind Fiumelatte to Varenna where you can enjoy some stunning views of the lake from high.
The small pebble beach is a 2 minutes walk down the steps leading from the apartment where a public car park and a cafe/restaurant also selling produce are also located. Other pebble beaches can be found dotted along the lakeside.

The Lombardy / Lake Como Area
Lake Como is a lake of glacial origin in Lombardy, Italy. It has an area of 146 km², making it the third largest lake in Italy, after Lake Garda and Lake Maggiore. At over 400 m (1320 ft) deep it is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the bottom of the lake is more than 200 metres (656 ft) below sea-level.
The lake is shaped much like the character “Y”. The northern branch begins at the town of Colico, while the towns of Como and Lecco sit at the ends of the southwestern and southeastern branches respectively. Varenna itself is situated at the intersection of the three branches of the lake.
Lake Como is a four season climate with hot summers and mild winters. The summer temperatures remain steady in the 80s and sometimes higher but the breeze off the lake keeps the air comfortable. The warmer weather brings a great opportunity for outdoor activities on the lake such as waterskiing, kayaking and sailing. Plenty of other outdoor activities also exist such as hiking and cycling.
Winter is pretty mild but does get down to the 40s and 30s therefore, winter attire is necessary. The winter which sees some bright sunny days occasionally also sees snow and frost but for the most part stays pretty temperate.
Varenna / Fiumelatte area
Varenna, described as the pearl of Lake Como is situated on the eastern shore of the lake. In the small town it is possible to enjoy romantic sunset strolls along the promenade and taste the typical dishes of the region in the small attractive lakeside restaurants.
You can take excursions into the mountains or just sit back and relax and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. You can enjoy a glass of local fine wine in the charming and historic square, or visit the town's main Villas (Monastero or Cipressi), or the Vezio castle.
It is possible to reach the opposite shores of the lake where Menaggio and Bellagio are located by ferry.
How to get there
Fly from UK to Milan or Bergamo airports with Ryan Air, Easy Jet, British Airways or Alitalia to Milan Linate. By car from the airport: discounted car hire is available with Hertz/Europe Car/Avis. By train from the airport: there are frequent bus transfers to Milan central station and Bergamo stations from the airports. Take a train in direction of Sondrio. Journey time to Varenna: approx. 1h30. There are railway stations in both Fiumelatte and Varenna. Train timetables can be seen at www.trenitalia.it with a version in English. Local taxis are available.
