The flat is in the lower part of Piani d'Invrea and has an amazing unimpeded view of the sea. You can see Genoa from the terrace…and if you are very lucky Corsica. The colours of the sea and sky are always changing.

This is the Italian Riviera at its best - beautiful coastline, fabulous food and stunning mountains. Restaurants, beach clubs and shops are all within easy reach.

The flat is just outside the seaside resort of Varazze on the Riviera di Ponente in Liguria, Italy's smallest region. You are just 40 minutes drive from the great port city of Genoa.

The flat is right next to the sea, perched above the seafront path the Lungomare Europa that runs between Varazze and Cogoleto. There are tiny coves if you fancy a dip in the sea (the saltiest in the Mediterranean) and this is a great place for walking, cycling and jogging. There is a salt water swimming pool club open to non-residents just five minutes walk from the flat.

The North West Italy region

Liguria is Italy's smallest region tucked away in the north-western corner of the country. You may well know it better as the Italian Riviera. It has all the glitz and style that goes with the name.

Take a trip to the millionaire's playground of Portofino - it is an easy day trip from the apartment.

Liguria has some of the best food in Italy. Pesto like you have never tasted before. The local flat bread, focaccia is a dream. The best anchovies in the world come from the coast and the olive groves produce the tasty taggiascia olives.

If you fancy sightseeing, there is lots to see and do. The great port city of Genoa is forty minutes by car. Genoa was the powerhouse of medieval Europe and as a result is stuffed to the brim with palazzos and artistic treasures. There are some cutting edge museums, great restaurants, Europe's biggest aquarium, one of its oldest light houses, a fabulous old town that is a rabbit warren of alleyways ... the list goes on. Take a trip to the world famous Cinque Terre. Boats leave for the famous UNESCO World Heritage site from Varazze.

The apartment is just outside Varazze, which is a typical Ligurian seaside town and huddles below the mountains by the coast road. The old town lies either side of the River Teiro that divides the town in two. It is full of old wordly charm and the narrow pedestrianised alleyways are bordered by tall houses painted in red and ochre with pretty trompe l'oeil decorations, which is typically Ligurian. It's a charming place to shop and stop for a drink and is full of masses of small shops, owned by families for generations, selling everything from dishwaters to buttons.

A stay in Varazze will offer you a really Italian experience. It was once the home of Jacopo da Varagine (1228-1298), who was an important religious scholar and archbishop of Genoa and as a rest has a number of historic churches. There are also some excellent restaurants and bars and a lively evening scene, especially around the new marina.

The apartment is in the lower part of an upmarket area called Piani d'invrea that clings to the cliffs with stunning views across the sea. You can walk into Varazze or use our bikes. There is also a bus service but if you want to explore the area, especially the mountains, you will need a car. There is a station in Varazze so you can visit Genoa without a car.

The apartment is five minutes walk from an excellent swimming club, the Orzzonte, which has a salt water pool and a shop that sells all the basics. There are sandy beaches in Varazze which has a wide choice of beach clubs. Below the apartment there is a rocky beach but five minutes walk brings you to pebble cum sandy beaches. There is a small beach club near the apartment that has a cafe and rents kayaks.

The maquis landscape around Piani d'Invrea is dotted with Aleppo pines and upmarket holiday homes and overlooks a series of small coves with free access to the sea and is a lovely place to swim. If you fancy getting away from it all take a stroll along the Lungomare Europa, that runs 5km east to Cogoleto. The promenade goes through the old railway tunnels that are cut into the serpentine rock and is quite atmosphericaradise.

Just behind the apartment Monte Beigua not only offers stunning views along the coast but Liguria's mountains are way off the tourist track and always degrees cooler in summer. There is fabulous walks along the Via Alte Monte Liguri. On a clear day you can see the Alps to the north and Corsica in the distance.

"Very dated apartment"

Not the apartment to stay in if you are 4 adults because only one double and 2 camp beds which are very uncomfortable .Complete apartment needs serious updating from the decoration, the none existent … More

Obviously decoration is a matter of taste. We have antiques and oil paintings. We also have a brand new kitchen.
We do not have plugs hanging off the wall.
I feel that is review was written in spite. The guest booked the wrong dates and was then angry with me that he arrived a day late. He did not respond when I asked him if he wanted to stay and another guest booked the apartment for a week. I refunded him the night he missed which was I felt was above what I was called to do.
