About this location

The Dordogne region

The Dordogne area of France is still unspoiled and perfect for getting away from it all. The countryside surrounding our house is wonderfully peaceful and our terrace provides panoramic views of rolling hills and valleys and stunning views of sunflowers in the summer. There are historic villages to discover, lovely rivers for canoeing and the vineyards of St Emilion and Bergerac are only an hour or so away.

The house is located at Champagnac - a small rural hamlet, sitting astride a ridge with lovely views. The old village of Vanxains, with its boulangerie and post office nestles in the valley below and is only a short drive away – you can also cycle or walk to it.

Riberac, a bustling town is five miles away. It has all kinds of shops, hypermarkets, restaurants and other facilities such as tennis and canoeing. The famous Friday market at Riberac is as much a social occasion as a shopping opportunity: you can easily while away a couple of hours checking out the local specialities.

Aubeterre, a very old and very beautiful village is only 15 minutes drive away (you can bike it if you are feeling energetic) and is one of our favourite spots for Sunday coffee or lunch and supper at one of its pretty restaurants.

For families, Lac Jemaye with its pretty lakeside setting, great man-made beach, free kayaks and numerous beach bars is hugely popular.

Other activities such as golf and horse riding are also nearby - the nearest golf course at Aubeterre is about 15 minutes drive away.

There are lots of other lovely places to explore. Brantome, Bergerac, Perigueux and St Emilion are all less than an hour's drive away and are brilliant for shopping and sightseeing.

There are many excellent restaurants within easy reach offering good quality and great value food. Our house has a detailed 'house book' which will give you all the information to make the most of your stay.

"Les Lavandes - French charm, picturesque, peaceful, luxury, stunning"

If you want a relaxing holiday in tranquil surroundings with amazing views then look no further! The booking and arrival arrangements were simple and painless. The house is beautiful, clean and very comfortable with a large and modern kitchen with plenty of storage and kitchen utensils. There is a large fridge/ freezer which was very handy for our week long stay. To our suprise the landlord had provided a bottle of wine for us which was chilling in the fridge on arrival - a very nice touch.

The living space is large with 2 sofas and 2 extra large comfy chairs. There was a good sized TV with UK channels 1-5, a dvd player and board games.

The bedrooms are a really good size with plenty of storage and the beds very comfy. The bathrooms are very cool with plenty of storage and large mirrors - which the girlfriend loved!

The swimming pool, views and terrace were absolutely delightful and having breakfast outside looking over fields of sunflowers was a great start to the day.

There are plenty of outdoor activities to do too - biking, kayaking, walking. We visted Brantome, Bergerac, Aubeterre and Saint Emilion - all breattaking with great markets, food, restaurants and cafes. Definatley worth seeing.

We had a fantastic week and would recommend Les Lavandes to anybody. We will be sure to book again next year.

"Charming house with breathtaking views"

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Les Lavandes. It was the perfect base for a relaxing stay in the beautiful French countryside, and we didn't want to leave. The house is really well furnished and spacious with everything you might need. Highlights included enjoying fresh coffee and french pastries for breakfast on the terrace and gazing out at the magnificent sunflower fields, cycling to nearby villages, sunbathing by the swimming pool, and dining at night on the terrace watching the sunset. We will definitely return - hopefully for longer next time. It was such a peaceful holiday and we loved every second of it.
