About the home
Vieille Mairie is an apartment located in the pretty Italian town of Valtournenche. Valtournenche is the perfect place to stay if you don’t want to be in the middle of the hustle and bustle but do want to have access to fantastic skiing or hiking whilst mingling with the friendly locals. You are just minutes from the slopes and a free bus will collect you outside the apartment ready to deliver you to endless wide open pistes.
During the winter not only does Valtournenche offer amazing snow covered scenes, but you can also drink hot chocolate in the ‘cioccolateria’, buy fresh bread from the 'panetteria' and warm yourself through with a ‘vin brule’ from one of the bars. There are various different ski regions to explore, including Zermatt for those looking for more challenging terrain, as well as ice skating in Cervinia, swimming, trips to Aosta, the list is endless.
In the summer the views of the mountains are spectacular whilst the houses look so pretty adorned with bright red geraniums. Again there are many things to do including kayaking, horse riding, visiting the numerous castles and churches in the area, Aosta, golf, swimming, walking, mountain biking, having a spa, playing tennis and if you are having withdrawal symptoms, you can even ski on the glacier in Cervinia!
We hope you enjoy your visit ...

The North West Italy / Aosta Valley region

The sheltered coast of this area – the Italian Riviera - offers a laid-back atmosphere and some of Italy’s finest beaches as well as warm weather all year around. The scenery is dramatic, with mountains dropping straight down to the sea. The area has a traditional link to the sea, Genoa being the home of Christopher Columbus and still the country’s largest port. The untouched North West of Italy offers fantastic skiing on the Alps, playing host to the 2006 Winter Olympics. Peaks such as Mont Blanc and the Matterhorn gradually give way to rolling green pine forests at their feet. The area’s climate and temperament owe much to neighbouring Switzerland, with excellent cheese and truffles on the menu locally....
The Valtournenche area
Some of Europe’s highest-altitude skiing is possible year-round in this valley dominated by the 4478m Matterhorn, described by English poet Byron as ‘Europe’s noble rock’.
There are many ski areas available to you whilst at Valtournenche. There’s Valtournenche (1524m), Breuil-Cervinia (2050m) where you can ski to Zermatt in Switzerland. Smaller skiing areas include Antey-St-Andre (1080m), La Magdeleine (1644m), Chamois and Torgnon. If you fancy a drive and to go somewhere totally different, Courmayeur is only 45 minutes away.
