About the home

Located in La Calera, the oldest part of Valle Gran Rey, Casa Monzel is a little piece of paradise.

This exclusive house featuring high, wooden ceilings and wooden floors in the front rooms and a beautiful sunny entrance hall with white marble floor, is one of the oldest in the valley and was at one time a school.

Comfortable and esthetic, the house has been furnished with many exquisite antique hand carved wooden pieces and decorated with unique items from exotic locations.

The garden featuring a giant avocado tree and an elevated patio with seating area has magical views up the valley.

Casa Monzel has two bedrooms one with a half taster double bed and a brass single and the other with an enormous hand carved Balinese bed.

The whole house is furnished with unique hand-carved pieces and has been tastefully refurbished in keeping with the original old style.

There is one interior and one exterior bathroom which is invaluable for a quick rinse after the beach so that the house doesn't get covered with sand.

The fully equipped kitchen features black granite work surfaces and the original floor, storage shelves and chimney breast.

The living/dining room comprises of a lounge area with large comfortable corner-sofa and a large dining table.

The private garden situated across the road from the house is a magical place to relax in the afternoon with a bottle of wine from the small supermarket right next door.

There is an elevated patio with seating area at your disposal.

Guests are welcome to pick avocados, papayas, passion fruit and cherry tomatoes from the garden when in season.

There is a small seating area by the main entrance for smokers.

The La Gomera region

The "magical Island" is probably the prettiest of all the Canary Islands.

La Gomera also has a laid back charm that appeals to the more independent traveller as opposed to tourism en masse in apartment complexes.

There are a wide range of micro-climates on the island meaning that the beach can be warm and sunny but drive up to the top of the mountain and you`ll feel like you`re in a different country.

La Gomera is topped with a sub-tropical rainforest. Valle Gran Rey is on the sunniest side of the island.

The Valle Gran Rey / La Calera area

Casa Monzel is ideally situated for hiking holidays, one of the main paths up to Arure starts just up the road.
The beach is a 10 minute walk down the hill.

There is a selection of 7 decent restaurants in La Calera but no bars. A nice, quiet, traditional, residential area.

Hire a car and discover the natural beauty and magic of the island.

Take a boat trip and see the whales and dolphins in their natural environment.
Head up into the hills to be at one with nature.
