The Canary Islands region
The dramatic, volcanic landscape of the island of La Gomera makes it arguably the most beautiful of the Canary islands. The rugged rocky cliffs broken by various valleys and ravines are topped by a mystical sub-tropical rainforest. There are so many different microclimates that a 20 minute drive can leave you doubting whether you`re still on the same island. The eastern side of the island is more wet and verdant and the western side including Valle Gran Rey is warmer and sunnier in winter.
Not having been taken over by mass tourism means that the atmosphere on La Gomera is also totally different to the more developed islands like Tenerife and Lanzarote. It has much more of a local feel and people always have time to stop and help you out.
Valle Gran Rey
Valle Gran Rey is the main destination on La Gomera for the independent traveller and has three main beaches and the Charco del Conde's "Baby Beach" which is a small shallow bay perfect for toddlers (5 minutes walk from the house). The beach at Vueltas, the harbour beach, is also very close by and also suitable for children as it doesn't get big waves. 10 minutes walk away you will find the main stretch of Playa de Calera and another 5 minutes from there lies the wild and rugged naturist beach, Playa del Ingles. This beach can be dangerous for swimming especially in winter.
The neighbourhood of Borbalan is a quiet residential area situated next to the neighbourhood of Vueltas, the harbour district, where you will find shops, bars, restaurants etc. The banks and post office are in Borbalan itself.

"The perfect place to stay - what more could you want??"
Three of us stayed at Casa Amarilla for three weeks. We all found the house to be perfect in every way and after only a short time, felt completely at home there. The house is very comfortable and stylish looking, with tasteful decor and every convenience you could want.
It has a lovely kitchen and dining area with thoughtfully laid out functions. Also an atmospheric living room and spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. The bedrooms overlook a spectacular view of the mountains, which is nice to wake up to when you draw the curtains! It's also good to sit out on the terrace, where you can eat and watch the sun come up over the cliffs. There are also a sunny balcony and roof terrace at the top of the house, where it was good to sit with a book and cold drink!
Having two bathrooms (both with showers) was useful and the larger one upstairs had natural light coming in from a skylight, which was a pleasing feature.
The house looks elegant from the outside too, in a very attractive neighbourhood that's only a few hundred yards from local shops and also near to the sea front. Vueltas is nearby as well, where you will find bars, restaurants, shops and the picturesque harbour with a nice sandy beach.
We'll honestly miss the house greatly and if we come to La Gomera again, it would be nice to think we could stay here. The house is absolutely ideal as a base close to all things in Valle Gran Rey and somewhere you can feel instantly at home. I can't recommend it highly enough as I honestly wouldn't have hoped for better at any price!

"Great house great location"
The house is very well equipped and fairly luxurious . It was our first time in la gomera and it was nice to be so central to the beaches supermarket and buses while we worked out where everything was. It even had washing facilities .
It felt like staying in a residential area which was nice rather than tourist accommodation .
The only downside was the lack of a view
From the garden but that was minor
Thanks a lot to Emma who was very helpful we loved Valle gran rey !

"perfect family house"
the house was very family friendly and was close to a good selection of shops, there was sun on either the back patio or the front terrace most of the day. the village and area itself was beautiful very peaceful and relaxing but also with some excellant bars and restaurants. the owners live close by and are always on hand for help or advise. the house was very well decorated and felt cool and clean. a great place the beaches are a short walk away we prefered the veulta harbour beach rather than baby beach, my children are 1/4/7 and we loved it

"Great house, excellent location, very helpful owner"
From the moment we got in touch with Emma to ask about the house she was very helpful and accommodating. She answered every question that we had, and explained the layout of the house in detail including sending us photos of the entrance and surrounding area. This was very important for us as my husband had great difficulty walking and was almost wheelchair bound after having suffered a stroke. She even measured the height of the curbs near the house to see how he could get around on his electric scooter.
We had certain requirements including the necessity of installing a wi fi connection for the duration of our stay which was all no problem for our helpful host. I felt very confident that all the details had been taken care of before we arrived.
Emma organised our transport from San Sebastian which was no easy feat considering the amount of our luggage and the fact that my husband had to bring his electric scooter. She was there when we arrived at the house and gave us a very warm welcome. The house was perfectly prepared and even a new sofabed had been put into the kitchen.
Emma helped us to make all the final adjustments including exchanging the toilet seat for a special raised one that we had brought.
The house was immaculate and very nicely decorated.
Once installed we felt very much at home.
A cleaning woman was arranged and every requirement that arose was quickly taken care of. For example after a few days we realised that it was difficult for my husband to get out onto the street with his scooter due to parked cars. We mentioned this to Emma and two days later she had arranged with the council to paint a no parking space exiting from the cul de sac.
All in all, our three months stay at Casa Amarilla was a very positive experience which could not be faulted. Having travelled a lot, usually staying in rented properties, I can honestly say that this was one of the best of our rental experiences.
After our wonderful stay in Casa Amarilla we decided to move to La Gomera and have since bought an apartment here.

"Nice place to stay chilled !!"
It is a very quiet house, with a helpful neigbarhood.
You find everything you need, except TV and WIFI;
But who needs that in the vacancies !!
Cleaning was our stuff, that could be solved beeter. I think, a cleaning women every 7 days could be helpful.
Thanks for your review. I will be sure to organize a cleaner for you when you come back in March. You can watch tv in Spanish & English but I'm afraid there are only a couple of German language series which you can see in their original version. Bis bald!
