About the home

An exceptional opportunity to stay in an original canarian house recently reburbished which dates back to when the town of La Calera was becoming established as a fishing port, The entrance, via winding steps, is accessed through a flower covered terrace, the lobby with sofa leads through an archway to a large well equipped kitchen/diner. There is a spacious sitting room which has a TV, DVD/CD player and three comfy sofas, one of which is a double sofa bed. The bedroom has a luxury kingsize bed with TV and DVD/CD player.

Night life is available within walking distance in the nearby towns of Vueltas and in La Playa de Calera, there are also many excellent restaurants and bars locally and in the towns. For those who want a lazy day the luxuriant roof terrace and garden offers both views and natural shade. There are several beaches within walking distance and if you enjoy getting an all over tan there is an excellent naturist beach, Playa Ingles, which is part of the Parque Rural de Valle Gran Rey. Golfers have a wonderful 18 hole golf course at La Tecina in the neighbouring town of Santiago. There are many exciting walks and cycle paths in the forest and over the mountains giving you breathtaking views.

The La Gomera region

La gomera is probably the most diverse island in the Canaries. It is a magical place where the beauty of the unspoilt landscape is complemented by peaceful and friendly inhabitants and visitors.

Few locations can claim to surpass the magnificence of this island with its gorges; enchanting woods cloaked in a veil of cloud and dramatic lava peaks.

Picturesque towns and villages adorn the mountains and valleys with unique fauna and flora all combine to cast a spell upon visitors.

Its beaches are also unspoilt and offers a relaxing day in which to charge the batteries before going hill walking and climbing or golfing.

There are many boat trips available to view Dolphins and Whales, it is quite unusual not to get and excellent show from a family of dolphins or pilot whales.

The Valle Gran Rey area

There are many places to visit according to the time of year and your interests. I have lisited a few below.

There are many fiestas in La Gomera and they should not be missed if you can arrange your dates to coincide. The local ones are : Los Reyes 6th January, San Antonio 13th June, San Juan 24th June and San Pedro 29th June, Nuestra Senora del Carmen 16th July, Santiago(St.James) 25th July. There is however nearly one fiesta every weekend in a village or town on the island so you wont miss one whatever time you come to visit.
Carnival is usually 3rd week in February.

There is a subtropical rainforest of 3,984 hectacres covering the mountainous centre - The Parque National de Garajonay is an UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Some restaurants provide local entertainment and music. The Cultural Centre also provides perfomances of local singing & dancing and arts & crafts. There is a market every Sunday selling local produce.

Fly to Tenerife South Airport, a taxi to the ferry port will take approx 20mins. I have found the cheapest flights at the moment are with Easyjet but Monarch Airlines are good too, the website Skyscanner.com is a good comparison site. Take the Fred Olsen Benchi Express ferry to Valle Gran Rey it will take approx 2 hours, get a return ticket because it is only costs a little more than a single. Then take a short taxi ride to La Calera (La Pista). Casa Bibi is on the right, along the narrow lane past the restaurant 'La Mirador' and before the little shop Tienda Victor.
