The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Valencia Province region
Valencia is a great city to visit as it is not too big, so its easy to get around on foot, or bike (our preferred method - you can hire bikes here easily and take advantage of many km of bicycle paths). It enjoys 300+ sunny days a year and the sky is nearly always a beautiful blue. It can get very hot in the summer, but then you have the beach on your door step (or 15 mins by bus). If you can't choose between a lazy, beach holiday or a sight-seeing city break, do both!
Valencia is home to Las Fallas (a festival of art in March with fireworks, noise and excitement - the art is later burnt). You can visit the museum (minutes from the apartment) year round. It's also host to the America's Cup and Formula 1.
It's also the birthplace of paella, horchata and Agua de Valencia (not water - it's a drink made with cava, freshly squeezed orange juice and spirits).
Our favourite thing about Valencia is its unique river park (Jardin de Turia). Once a flowing river that kept flooding its banks, it has become a lively park where you can walk, run, cycle, play basketball, skateboard, do yoga, sunbath or sit on terrace and have a drink. It's also a great landmark and way to get across the city by bike avoiding cars.
Valencia area
The apartment is in a traditional Spanish area, where you can find good deals on meals, etc. You can get a menu del dia (3 course set menu with wine) for about 7-10 euros, coffee and beer for around the euro mark. You won't get ripped off like in the touristy areas. It's surrounded by shops, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, internet cafes and close to bus stops. There is also a daily market with fresh produce. Calle Cadiz (2mins) is a lively nightspot. Walk up Calle Cadiz and you'll see the train station. Then you are in the centre, where you can explore all the monuments and tourist attractions.
How to get there
Valencia airport is 20 minutes away (20-25 euros) in a taxi or you can get the metro. Alicante is 2 hours away by bus. Try www.skyscanner.net for cheap flights (compares all the budget airlines) - TIP search by month for the cheapest flights if your dates are flexible.
Airlines and destinations are constantly being added. Check for more details: www.aena.es (Practical information - Destinations)
We can recommend http://www.carjet.co.uk having used it personally several times with no problems. However, a car is not necessary for this city. If you do drive, ask for details of garages nearby.

Further details outdoors: The main bedroom leads out onto a small patio, which gets direct sunlight at only parts of the day, but it is light and airy. There is a table and chairs for 2 and we do permit smoking here (or at the steps at the front if you prefer). Though minutes from a major Valencian street (Av Peris y Valero), the apartment is in a quiet street with little noise. There's no problem with noise from neighbours above either. Perfect for a good night's sleep. The immediate area has lots of shops, bars, restaurants, internet cafes, bus stops, etc.
