Further details outdoors: El Carmen and Abastos vie as Valencia's most vibrant and cosmopolitan 'hotspots'. Additionally Abastos benefits with its excellent value public transport network coupled with its extensive local amenities ie; quality supermarkets, municipal indoor pools, Turkish baths, gym, Valencia's best tapas-bars/cafes, ice-cream parlours - Italians watch out ! these are seriously good... Many are terraced along the delightful tree lined sidewalks surrounding the imposing 'deco' styled Mercado. Some of the city's best restaurants offering International level cuisine as well as local all at very keen prices. As this barrio is less touristic but hugely popular with Valencianos - you might well enjoy far better value and higher standards of service when compared to lesser barrios. Its hard not to feel spoilt for choice ie; the renowned Villaplana restauarant open since the 1950's, this amongst others are less then 4 mins walk. Madrilenos 'in the know' - head here first- and for very good reason. This is location, location with assured civility.
