The Algarve / Central Algarve region
The Algarve is a wonderful all year round family destination with beautiful beaches, championship golf courses and sporting facilities such as tennis, horseriding and watersports. For the children, there are also water parks and theme parks such as Zoomarine. There are also many fine restaurants in the region offering something for all tastes, from good value Portuguese cuisine to Michelin-starred venues.
Places to visit include Porches, the centre of the Algarvian pottery industry, and Silves, a majestic hill-town with enough history to satisfy any culture-seeking visitor. Loule also has an excellent weekly market.
Further afield, the region has excellent train links to Lisbon, with a modern, high-speed service from Faro (or Loule).
Vale do Lobo area
Vale do Lobo is a luxurious award-winning holiday resort. The sandy beaches of Vale do Lobo are lined with bars and fish restaurants and there are water-sports facilities here and at neighbouring Quinta da Lago. A great part of Vale do Lobo's appeal however, is the outstanding golf courses in the resort and there are plenty of organisations offering cycling, horse-riding and walking trips into the adjacent Ria Formosa nature reserve.
The apartment overlooks the Tennis Academy and courts. This has been voted the best value tennis resort by ACE magazine, with excellent coaching facilities for all ability levels. At the beginning of August, it also hosts the ATP Tour of Champions, past tournaments have featured the likes of John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg.
