The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
Cannes, originally a small fishing village – now of international acclaim with amongst other annual events, the ‘Cannes Film Festival’ – it is around a 20-30 minute drive away, depending on traffic. Antibes - Juan les Pins has a daily market – the old part of Antibes is busy but absolutely charming with the Marina, where the most beautiful yachts and ocean-going boats are moored. Other places to visit that immediately spring to mind are of course Nice, especially the charming vieux Nice, the very pretty port of Villefranche just beyond Nice. Monaco and of course Italy is within around one hour’s drive from the Mas. St Tropez and its very pretty surrounding villages and towns of Gassin and Ramatuelle is also within a one to two hour drive, depending on volume of traffic.
Leisure activities in the region include: Golf (there are around 20 golf courses in the region). Sailing and watersports, Tennis, Horse riding, Climbing and Hiking, Canoeing/Kayaking, Skiing (Winter).
Valbonne / Plascassier area
Plascassier has a variety of small shops with one of the best ‘boulangerie’ in the area – just a short few steps from Haitchtoya. An Auberge, where regional home-cooked delights are served, is also very close. The Alpes Maritimes is a wonderfully diverse region with so much to offer in terms of leisure activities and places of interest. A wonderful beach life in the summer with skiing in the nearby mountains in the Winter and early Spring. There are numerous picturesque medieval, provencal hilltop villages to visit Plascassier, Mougins, Valbonne, St Paul de Vence, Biot all have many restaurants, bars and art galleries and/or potteries, the list is endless. In most villages there are colourful weekly markets – offering a variety of provencal delights. Valbonne’s wonderful, bustling market takes place every Friday morning. Grasse, the perfume capital of the world is just a few kilometers away….the old city of Grasse and its museums are a must.
