How to get there
Getting to Valberg (Michelin Map 341 Alpes-Maritimes)
By Air • Most low cost airlines have several direct daily services to Nice Airport • Car Hire at reasonable cost is available from the airport. • Also a bus service runs daily from the airport to Valberg (see below)
By Road • We regularly drive to Valberg from Calais. • We use an attractive route - taking about 2.5 days. • It can be done in 2 days if full use of motorways is taken. • If approaching Valberg from Nice city centre, head West towards the Airport. Then follow the signs for the RN 202 - head North towards Digne/Grenoble. Continue on the RN202 until shortly after Touët-sur-Var, turn right on the D28 signposted Beuil and Valberg - via Gorges du Cians.
By Train • France's TGV runs through to Nice on a daily schedule. • Travel by day or overnight from London's St Pancras station. • Access to Valberg by the daily bus is available from the Nice Rail Station (see below).
By Bus • A bus (Route 770) runs Winter and Summer from and to Nice Airport, Nice Rail Station and Nice Centre. • The new daily (or twice daily) timetable is variable depending on the season, day of the week etc but now does seem to be a viable option for UK visitors arriving by air (previously the bus left the airport before most UK flights arrived in the morning).
•Whenever we have weighed up the relative costs/convenience of: a) an overnight stay in Nice or at the airport then journey to Valberg by bus, against b) take a taxi up to Valberg and return by bus, or c) hire a car, we have always found hiring a car to be the best option with little or no difference in cost.

The Weather: • Generally we have found it as follows:
Spring - sun is very warm; but the evening air is cool right through to late June. Wonderful walking and mountain-biking weather.
Summer - sunny and warm throughout the summer. The air is fresh and crystal clear.
Autumn - still warm (or hot even) when the sky is clear through October and November. Great autumn colours. Can have cloudy and dull periods - but rarely for more than half a day duration.
Winter - much as elsewhere in the high Alps. Sun very warm, but air cold and crisp. A slightly shorter skiing season than the central Alps – but snow just as good.
• Check out the weather in real-time in the village and on the slopes using the www.valberg.com webcam!
Conditions
Please note that some of the facilities in Valberg are 'seasonal' around the French school holiday periods.
From mid-July throughout August you can expect Valberg to be busy with all the facilities open every day. Earlier and later in the summer is quieter and some of the facilities are open only from Thursdays through to Sundays.
The winter season starts with the first big snowfall - usually (but not always) in mid-December. Because of Valberg's proximity to the Mediterranean generally by mid-March the lower slopes are getting a bit thin - but not always! In 2008 the season lasted until April 16 - still with plenty of snow cover on most pistes and with another big snowfall on the closing day.
