The Rhone / French Alps / Savoie region
Val d'Isere is one of the most interesting, lively, trendy, and beautiful parts of the French Alps. It is considered the centre of the skiing and apres-skiing universe by some. The town spreads out along a remote valley on the road up to the 2,770 m Col de I'Iseran, France's highest mountain pass. Unlike the purpose-built towns in the area, Val d'Isere is a handsome village with character.
Val d'Isere area
The highlights of the resort include superb and extensive skiing, a modern and rapid lift-system, a vibrant après-ski scene, and many of the best reputed ski schools and hire shops operate there. Val d'Isere links with Tignes and La Fournet to make up Espace Killy, which makes for a huge network of lifts, pistes, restaurants, and facilities.
With a snow record better than almost all other nearby resorts you can be certain of good conditions on and off piste for the whole season. Last season the skiing was extended into May because conditions were still so good!
Val d’Isère has a fantastic variety of slopes, perfect for beginners, intermediates and advanced skiiers. A great advantage to beginners deciding where to visit is that Val d’Isère’s nursery slopes are free of charge! There are many ski schools which cater to children of all ages. It makes for a fantastic family holiday.
The summer season is also very enjoyable. There are gorgeous areas to walk and mountain bike. There are many facilities available, making it a perfect place to be active and enjoy the fresh mountain air!
How to get there
The nearest airport is Chambery and Lyon is also fairly close. You have to rent a car or take a taxi from these airports. Geneva is about 3 hours drive away and there is a direct bus service from the airport into Val d'Isere. The apartment is very central so you don't need a car while you are there, but there is an indoor free parking space where you can leave a rental car.
