The Crete region
Spend a relaxing vacation in the western part of Crete, Greece, in the beautiful and idyllic mountain landscape of Apokoronas, southeast of Hania.
In spring, summer, autumn or winter – traveling to Crete always means something special. Located not far from North Africa the temperatures are seldom less than 10 degrees Celsius even in winter.
Relaxed swimming and sun-bathing at one of the countless sandy beaches, sight-seeing at archeological places which are witnesses to 4000 year old history of the minoan cultur will also include museums and churches – a vacation in this area never gets boring.
See e. g. the impressive minoan palace of 'Knossos' close to Heraklion, the impressive fortress of 'Aptera', just a 15 min. drive away from Vafes, the beautiful Old Town of Hania with its romantic venetian harbor.
Strolling through the narrow pathways of Old Town is an unforgetable experience which lets you never forget the beauty of this area.
During a hiking tour through the fertile and unique landscape of Western Crete with the Lefka-Ori-Mountains, more than 2.450 m high, at the same time you will have beautiful views of the deepblue sea.
Take the chance to do the fantastic walk through Europes longest gorge, the 'Samaria'. The blue Lybien Sea in the south is waiting for you at the end to offer a refreshing swim after 17 km of hiking.
In the mood for nightlife? No problem either. At the long beaches in Georgioupolis just a 15 min. drive away of west of Hania are lots of beach-lounges, clubs and bars. Or you can spend an evening dancing to greek folklore music. In summertime you enjoy tasty greek plates, the traditional Raki (spirit from grapes) or cocktails until the early morning light.
In winter Hania has to offer various entertainment in countless cafés and bars.
The Vafes area
Our new, traditionally restored, exclusive cottages in the villages Vafes are a great spot to start sightseeing tours and events. The village is still quite and originally 'cretan' with one taverna offering local fish, meat like lamb and pork, greens and the varieties of cretan cheeses.
In Vrysses, about 10 min. away by car, you find tavernas, supermarkets and pharmacies.
Just 5 min. further the 15 km long sandy beach of Georgioupolis invites you to spend the day relaxing under an umbrella right at the deepblue Aegean Sea.
Georgioupolis itself gives the opportunity for shopping souvenirs and having a juice or drink in one of the countless bars of cafes.
The complex is newly restored and completed by the use of traditional stone and wood. The location of the complex plus the way it is restored makes it a perfect holiday location for you finding tranquil and relax. Sitting on the terrace having these spectacular views is beautiful and in the evenings you can have a private dinner from the external BBQ.
The village of Vafes is still untouched from tourists. So it offers you a view to the real Crete, e. g. tasty traditional food in the taverna and a view back to the history of this special area.
If you are in the mood for beaches, sightseeing and nightlife, everything is in close distances.
