The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
This stretch of the Turkish coastline is known as the Turkish Riviera or Turquoise Coast. The area around Fethiye is one of Turkeys most beautiful, offering a perfect mix of beach resorts, mountain scenery and small rural villages.
The famous Olu Deniz beach with its stunning blue lagoon is renowned as the most beautiful beach in Turkey, The lagoon is like a large lake, very calm, ideal for children with is gently shelving waters. The Turquoise Coast is without doubt one of the most beautiful areas in which to relax and unwind. From the backdrop of the Taurus mountains the coast is full of beautiful beaches, crystal clear turquoise seas, stunning scenery and numerous places of interest and ancient sites full of history and culture.
The area has something for everyone, the thrills of white water rafting, paragliding off babadag mountain, ringo riding down the stunning saklikent gorge or why not visit the Dalyan mud baths, for those who enjoy historical sights why not visit the historical sites of Ephesus and Pamukkale, or the nearby ancient ruins of Kadyanda (20 mins from the villa). For the less adventurous and those which wish to relax why not take a boat trip out of Fethiye or Olu Deniz, sit back, relax and have lunch cooked for you.
The choices are endless and you will wish to come back time after time.
The village of yesil Uzumlu is a small traditional Turkish village located 18kms from the bustling town of Fethiye. The village itself is surronded by a fantastic backdrop of mountains. Villa Poppy is situated in an elevated position, currently on an unmade road, surrounded by pine forests, with exceptional views over the valley and set with a backdrop against the mountains. As Uzumlu is 500m above sea level you will enjoy the cool mountain breezes which are more than welcome especially in the summer.
The traditional village of Uzumlu is approx a 25 minute walk away (approx 2 km) and it has managed to retain all of the natural charm and character of a traditional Turkish village whilst having the convenience of a modern town of Fethiye which is a twenty minutes drive away. The villa is currently situated up an unmade road.
Within the village you will be able to experience real Turkish village life and the atmosphere is where you can experience the real Turkey quiet and unspoilt and is ideal for those looking for a little peace and quiet, breathtaking scenery and rural life. The village of Uzumlu has small supermarkets in which to buy your essential groceries, several restaurants, a bakery in which to buy fresh bread every day, a barbers, post office and a local market on Fridays in order to buy local produce.
From the mosque in the village square you can catch a dolmus (Turkish taxi) which will take you into Fethiye. Fethiye is an all year round working town and is a mixture of market town, port and holiday resort. On the hill above Fethiye is a castle built for the Knights of Saint John and there are 2 simple rock tombs on the eastern face of the hill. Every Tuesday there is a huge open air market near the marina selling everything from clothes, shoes, household goods, gifts and food. Great to practice your bartering skills! The harbour and marina is bordered by palm tree lined promenades and back streets filled with shops, bars and restaurants, yielding bargains, gastronomic delights and bustling night life. The town is lined with shops galore as well as a maze of little side streets offering many hidden treasures. At night there are a good selection of bars, cafes and restaurants offering local and international cuisine. You will also find discos and cinemas in Fethiye town centre.
For a much livelier resort you can visit Hisaronu with its wide choice of shops, restaurants and late night bars, they also have a market every Monday. Near to Hisaronu is the deserted village of Kayakoy which was a Greek settlement founded at the beginning of the 14th century. It was evacuated during the Turkish-Greek war of 1919-1923 hence it's nickname of The Ghost Town. Its well worth a visit and the more energetic of you can walk there through the pine forests.
The world renown resort of Olu Deniz 'the blue lagoon' with its sheltered beach and lagoon which is ideal for children and swimming, is a short distance away from Fethiye. Here you can wander around the shops, sit and have a drink in one of the many seafront cafes and watch the paragliders land on the beach.
Calis beach is a 20 minute drive from the villa and is famous for its stunning sunsets, cooling breezes and beautiful long beach of single and sand which stretches across the bay to Fethiye. The seafront and area around Calis is flat and therefore suitable for strolling along the promenade deciding which of the many restaurants or bars in which to sit and watch the world go by.

"Better than Life!"
Lovely villa in a peaceful part of the village. The accommodation was equipped with everything we required including a games room, although spent too much time by the pool to brush up on our table tennis and pool. Situated just outside the centre a car is essential, but worth it as the villa sits on a lovely plot with a wonderful mountain view and well secluded. Karen was wonderful offering any help we needed without intruding on the holiday (the mobile phone supplied was an asset).
This is our second visit to the village and highly recommended if you are looking for the real Turkish experience.
If you haven't visited the village then don't! I only say that as I want to keep it to myself and wouldn't want it spoilt by too many tourists. OK, go but don't tell your friends.
There are plenty of places to eat but recommend Lup Lups which is a small café (The owner Goulay is lovely) and do try the pizza shop (possibly the best pizzas ever)
Thank you for your feedback, it was lovely meeting you and we are really pleased that you enjoyed your stay at Villa Poppy and we hope to see you again soon.

"A relaxing vacation."
The property management were very helfyl and informative. The villa is set back from the road in a peaceful location, it was beautiful and very well kept. We were within a short drive to numerous bars. I would recommend villa Poppy for anyone wanting a relaxing break in Uzumlu.

"Fabulous Villa, Great Amenities, 5 Star service"
6th stay in Uzumlu - 1st stay at Villa Poppy, group of 8 consisting of 5 adults and 3 children.
This really is a lovely villa to stay in with fabulous views over the valley one side and up into the pine forests the other. The villa is furnished & decorated to a very high standard with lovely personal touches such as local soaps, shampoos and shower gels you would find in a high class hotel and not usual in a rental property. Your every need is thought of, from hairdryers in each room to books, games for the PS2 and Wii in the games room and DVDs in the TV room for those times when you want to escape the sun for a while. The games room was fab and kept both the kids and adults amused for hours, playing pool, table tennis, bar football and a beer fridge! Pete & Karen provide a first class service, arranging trips, and provide a phone and helpline service for any queries or problems. There is quite a steep walk up an unmade road to the villa from the main road, however, it is a small price to pay for the views. The pool area is screened for privacy but still gave stunning views up the mountain, it was bliss laying on the sunbed watching the eagle hunting it prey over the mountain.
Thank you for your lovely comments we are really pleased you enjoyed your holiday and we will see you again next year.

"Best family holiday ever!!!!!!"
The villa was awesome. Had everything you needed. The trips were great fun.
The only downfall was the Kipa supermarket was quite a distance and would advise you take the opportunity of the full shop on arrival. Bread, milk, water etc can be bought daily from the local shops. Very quite without the noise of a complex and no need to get up at the crack of dawn to reserve sunbeds. Have already enquired about availibilty for next year!!!!
Its a must!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you for your lovely comments regarding Villa Poppy and your holiday.
We look forward to seeing you again in 2013

"Another fantastic holiday at Villa Poppy"
This was our second visit to Villa Poppy and our friends first. For us, it was as brilliant as last year and, our friends' were delighted with the Villa saying it was the best they had ever stayed in, having had Villa holidays for several years. Our children's ages ranged from 4 years to 19 years and we were a group of nine. The Villa is spacious so no one is on top of each other and the games room for the children and the adults is such a bonus. Karen and Pete who manage Villa Poppy present the Villa at a really high standard with nice little touches and it is fully equipped. They are available if you need them and can give good tips for places to eat etc but do not impose in any way. Uzmulu itself is a great place with several good restaurants and lots nearby if you want to venture away from the pool.
Thank you for your lovely comments. It was lovely seeing you again and we hope to see you again next year!

"Another fantastic stay!"
This is the only villa we have ever returned to the following year, having enjoyed it so much the first time. This year Karen & Pete have gone out of their way to improve it even more. The villa is fantastic with not only a great swimming pool area but also an amazing games room in the basement with pool table, table tennis, table football & PS2. It is perfect for the times when you really want the kids/teens out of the sun but not just sitting around complaining that they are bored! Uzumlu village has retained its authentic Turkish feel despite additional visitors & we thorougly enjoyed it. Will definitely be back again.
It was lovely to see you all again and we are really glad you enjoyed your stay, hopefully we will see you again next year!

"one of the best villas we have stayed in"
Accommodation was lovely - very clean, very spacious ( games room was terrific) and very well furnished ( both inside and out ).
Location was as stated - outskirts of small low lying mountain village, which allows for beautiful view from the villa. Way from hustle and bustle and noise of other tourists but close enough to easily reach the holiday areas when wanted.
On site contact - Karen & Pete were both really friendly and helpful (provision of contact mobile phone was a great idea) without being intrusive.
No hesitation in suggesting this villa to other family and friends.
Sharon - it was lovely meeting you and your family and we are pleased that you enjoyed your holiday in Villa Poppy. Thank you for your lovely comments.

"Spacious, well-equipped, clean and comfortable family villa"
Karen & Pete were very helpful with arranging car hire for collection at the airport, grocery shopping for our first day (it was in the fridge when we arrived) and giving directions for day trips etc. Without being intrusive they were always available at the end of the villa's mobile phone for any queries we had.
The villa was even better than we'd hoped. The spacious basement games room was enjoyed by all, as was the TV room for movie nights (large selection of DVDs). The private pool was cleaned and topped up early every morning ready for the day, the roman steps at the shallow end were ideal for the non-swimmer, and the whole outside area was lit at night for evening dips. Plenty of room around the pool for sun loungers and BBQ, with shaded areas for when it was just a bit too hot. There are other villas close by but suitably erected screening meant that we weren't overlooked. The covered outside dining terrace was excellent for meals at any time of the day or just for sitting in the evening enjoying the peace and quiet.
The directions to the villa that Karen & Pete had given us were excellent, it was very straightforward using main roads. The final few metres up to the villa were a steepish unmade track and we were unsure initially how to approach - but just went for it and by day 2 didn't even think about it. The villa was situated on the outskirts of a quiet village but with good roads down to Fethiye and beyond, this made sightseeing and shopping (Kipa supermarket about 25 mins drive) easily accessible by car ... depending on roadworks! Sat Nav was ok for main roads but not many of the smaller roads showed up.
The weather in Turkey (July / August) was hot (mid 40's) but this meant that you could enjoy being outside whatever time day or night - just take plenty of high factor sun cream!
We did plenty of trips out in the car - highlights were the Travertines at Pammukale (about 3hr 15 mins each way), the river trip from Dalyan to the mud baths and the day on Turtle (Iztuzu) Beach (near Dalyan) where the sea was shallow and calm enough for the non-swimmer to enjoy.
We would definitely recommend Villa Poppy for a great family holiday suitable for all ages.
Thank you for your lovely review regarding Villa Poppy. It was lovely meeting all of you and your family and we hope to see you again soon.

"Great place and fantastic views"
Karen and Pete were amazing any problems dealt with immediately even though Karen was on crutches. The villa had everything we could have wanted for a large party like ours and the games room was well used by us. The pool cleaned daily by Pete before we had even got out of bed can't fault it. If there is anything negative to say it would have to be the unmade roads from the main road up to the villa... shame!!! The local village and its people are very friendly and you even get a lift back to the villa by some of the shop owners with your shopping....All in all great holiday if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle.
Thank you for your lovely review of Villa Poppy. We are really pleased you enjoyed your holiday and we hope to see you again -

"Fabulous villa - we will be back"
Fabulous villa with a great view from the terrace. The accommodation is beautifully presented with amazing attention to the small details. The bedrooms are all of a good size and very comfortable. The pool is fabulous with a great terrace area and plenty of shade. The added bonus is the well equipment games room, which has something for all ages. Great location on the outskirts of this Turkish village, which has excellent places to eat. Karen and Peter looked after us brilliantly and nothing was too much trouble. We will be back....
Thank you for your feedback on Villa Poppy.
It was lovely meeting you and your family and we hope to see you again. You will always be welcome.
