The Turkish Aegean Coast region
Fethiye is the starting point of the Lycian Way, a 500km footpath through the rugged mountains of the Tekke Peninsula to Antalya. Not far from Oludeniz along the Lycian Way is the Tohum Eco Centre, a good spot for a meditation retreat. Most people travel to Fethiye by bus or car. From mid-June through to August there is a direct ferry service between Fethiye and the Island of Rhodes.
Besides the beach, visitors like the day- long 12 Island yacht cruise of the bay, especially the stop at Gemile Island, covered in unrestored Byzantine ruins. Boats depart every day in the warm months from Fethiye’s busy yacht harbour. Some 2400 years ago, Fethiye was the prominent town of Telmessos, but earthquakes have left only a few Lycian stone sarcophagi from the old town, along with the dramatic Tomb of Amyntas carved into the sheer rock cliff high above the bay. Fethiye rests on a broad Mediterranean bay boasting some of Turkey’s best beaches and yachting. Restaurants are plentiful and the old and new parts of Fethiye are well worth visiting. A must for shoppers is to visit the market, where you will find the best bargains, as it is the biggest Bazaar in the area.
Calis and Calis Beach
Calis is the best place to watch the sun go down and it is the nearest beach to Uzumlu. It has 4km’s of beach, cool wind during hot summer nights, numerous qualified resort facilities, restaurants, bars and shopping. The sea is good for water sports.
Oludeniz and the Blue Lagoon
Oludeniz is the most photographed beach in Turkey and is only a ten-minute journey from Fethiye by the regular Dolmus service down the mountain. You will be able to find a variety of water sports i.e. water skiing, para sailing, scuba diving, snorkelling, pedaloes.
Unlike other busy holiday destinations in Turkey, the Blue Lagoon is a quiet spot, national park, and an area of natural beauty. The main beach of Oludeniz is also to be found here with its white sand and is far livelier than the Blue Lagoon. This beautiful beach has the look and feel of any Hawaiian or Florida beach with the plethora of beach activities available and the huddle of sun and surf addicts thronging the waterfront.
Oludeniz is full of good restaurants, bars and the excellent shops. You can have a great day on the beach as well as a good atmosphere for a night out or just drinks at sunset over the beautiful bay. The BabaDag mountain, towering 1969m behind Oludeniz offers three takeoff sites. If you prefer a more relaxing day on the water there are a selection of boat trips available from both Oludeniz and Fethiye.
Oludeniz beach sweeps round in a vast crescent of coarse sand and shingle to the Lagoon, which has a small charge for entry.
The Village has authentic houses, a traditional life-style and friendly local people. The picturesque village is 500m above sea level in a fertile plain, surrounded by an imposing mountain range. Uzumlu still remains a working village with local community relying on agriculture and traditional crafts. The village name translates as “with grapes” and vines producing a variety of grapes and impressive wine. There is a small vineyard to the rear of the villa. Fields of cotton, sesame, aniseed, wheat, barley and summer vegetables surround the village while on the lower slopes of the mountain, apples, pomegranates, almonds, walnuts and olives are grown. The heart of the village is its square, bordered by home-produce shops, a post office, a mosque, village bakery.
Wandering around the small lanes that fan out from the square you can see women weaving cotton on traditional pedal looms in front of their houses. There are good restaurants and bars in the heart of the village and a number just a few minutes drive from the villa, most with gardens to sit out and eat. The ancient roman ruins at Candianda are 10 mins away with beautiful walks through the pine forests. The bus (dolmus) stops regularly in the village and links to Fethiye and the surrounding areas. Don't forget market day held every Friday in the village.

"Great villa, stunning views, quiet but within two minutes walk to dolmus, taxi and restaurants."
Normally we like a more remote villa and always hire a car,it was a refreshing change to have the best of both worlds.Uzumlu is a small traditional village where the local cafe owner greeted us like friends after one visit. There are a number of places to eat, literally within a couple of minutes walk, although it is very quiet,if it's bright lights you're after there are none!We did hire a car but you can get by without one.The villa itself is a lovely well finished design in a good size plot.It was clean, well furnished and maintained. The rooms were a decent size and I would say the photos don't do it justice.Booking with Ned was easy, efficient and friendly. Thanks Ned.We used the car hire firm Ned put us onto and had a taxi transfer to and from the airport as well as a hire car with a child seat.Good service.I would definately use the villa again and would recommend the location for a family holiday.
