The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

This stretch of the Turkish coastline is known as the Turkish Riviera or Turquoise Coast. The area around Fethiye is one of Turkeys most beautiful, offering a perfect mix of beach resorts, mountain scenery and small rural villages.
The famous Olu Deniz beach with its stunning blue lagoon is renowned as the most beautiful beach in Turkey, The lagoon is like a large lake, very calm, ideal for children with is gently shelving waters.
The Turquoise Coast is without doubt one of the most beautiful areas in which to relax and unwind. From the backdrop of the Taurus mountains the coast is full of beautiful beaches, crystal clear turquoise seas, stunning scenery and numerous places of interest and ancient sites full of history and culture.
The area has something for everyone, the thrills of white water rafting, paragliding off babadag mountain, ringo riding down the stunning saklikent gorge or why not visit the Dalyan mud baths, for those who enjoy historical sights why not visit the historical sites of Ephesus and Pamukkale, or the nearby ancient ruins of Kadyanda (20 mins from the villa). For the less adventurous and those which wish to relax why not take a boat trip out of Fethiye or Olu Deniz, sit back, relax and have lunch cooked for you.
The choices are endless and you will wish to come back time after time.
The Uzumlu area
The village of Uzumlu is one of spectacular natural beauty, set in a valley surrounded by dense pine forests and rugged hillsides. Villa Moonflower is ideally situated just behind the village centre and is within a 5 minute walk of the picturesque village of Uzumlu. As Uzumlu is 500m above sea level the cool mountain breezes are more than welcome especially in the summer. The village of Uzumlu has managed to retain all of the natural charm and character of a traditional Turkish village whilst having the convenience of a modern town of Fethiye which is a twenty minutes drive away.
The relaxed village atmosphere is where you can experience the real Turkey quiet and unspoilt and is ideal for those looking for a little peace and quiet, breathtaking scenery and the enchantment of rural life. Uzumlu has shops in order to buy local produce, a post office, a selection of restaurants, and a local market on Fridays.
Fethiye is an all year round working town and is a mixture of market town, port and holiday resort. On the hill above Fethiye is a castle built for the Knights of Saint John and there are 2 simple rock tombs on the eastern face of the hill. Every Tuesday there is a huge open air market near the marina selling everything from clothes, shoes, household goods, gifts and food. Great to practice your bartering skills! The harbour and marina is bordered by palm tree lined promenades and back streets filled with shops, bars and restaurants, yeilding bargains, gastronomic delights and bustling night life. The town is lined with shops galore as well as a maze of little side streets offering many hidden treasures. At night there are a good selection of bars, cafes and restaurants offering local and international cuisine. You will also find discos and cinemas in Fethiye town centre.
For a much livelier resort you can visit Hisaronu with its wide choice of shops, restaurants and late night bars, they also have a market every monday. Near to Hisaronu is the deserted village of Kayakoy which was a Greek settlement founded at the beginning of the 14th century. It was evacuated during the Turkish-Greek war of 1919-1923 hence it's nickname of The Ghost Town. Its well worth a visit and the more energetic of you can walk there through the pine forests.
The world renown resort of Olu Deniz 'the blue lagoon' with its sheltered beach and lagoon which is ideal for children and swimmimg, is a short distance away from Fethiye. Here you can wander around the shops, sit and have a drink in one of the many seafront cafes and watch the paragliders land on the beach.
Calis beach is a 20 minute drive from the villa and is famous for its stunning sunsets, cooling breezes and beautiful long beach of single and sand which stretches across the bay to Fethiye. The seafront and area around Calis is flat and therefore suitable for strolling along the promenade deciding which of the many restaurants or bars in which to sit and watch the world go by.

A very comfortable 3 bed, 4 bathroom villa with swimming pool. Both Karen & Pete very helpful & nothing is too much trouble. Uzumlu is a good base for Patara, Olu Deniz, Cadianda, Seklikent Gorge all of which are a must. Karen comes & changes the towels & bedlinen, Pete comes & does the pool every morning. This is our 3rd visit to the area & it does not disappoint, eating out is very reasonable, our favorite is above the public loo's (trust me I know the location sounds bad but def worth it) & then the Alya. For the men leave your razor at home & go down to Ramizan for a shave. If you like busy & bustling this is not for you. |
Guestbook for Villa Moonflower
"We've had the most relaxing and yet interesting and stimulating 2 weeks imaginable at the Villa Moonflower. Our first day at the villa was our "Wow" day:
Wow what a wonderful and spacious villa.
Wow what a fantastic view across the Umzulu Valley and into the Toros Mountains.
Wow what a wonderful pool.
But in addition to these wow moments the practical support that make or break holidays was there too. Our driver was waiting for us at the airport as arranged, our shopping order was already unpacked in the kitchen and then on the first night Karen and Pete came across to deal with any queries and provide some wonderful practical tips on all aspects of holidaying in the area and Turkish customs.
The local village is so traditional but so friendly too. The local baker was as good as any we've come across in France and the local restaurants were fantastic quality and great value too. The mountain breezes stop the July and August heat feeling oppressive.
The villa and the Umzulu area had the perfect mix of luxury, culture, scenery, outdoor activities and friendliness for my wife and 2 children. We'll definitely be returning."

The villa was excellent - it was very peaceful, very spacious. We really appreciated the pool being cleaned daily. The personal touches were great e.g. the purchasing of basic shopping, the passing on of local knowledge. Many thanks Karen and Pete for your contribution to a fantastic holiday.

Loved Uzumlu, it's a very gentle village with a couple of good restaurants, fresh bread shop, internet cafe and basic supermarkets within 10-minutes' walk of the villa. Locals are very friendly - even the ones who don't speak any English. We're determined to learn basic Turkish so next year we can talk to e.g. the old chap who'd mislaid his donkey! Villa Moonflower was clean, spacious and well-equipped, and very peaceful being on the edge of development. It was lovely sitting on the covered terrace having breakfast and watching the red squirrels playing round the trees. Even our last two days sitting there watching the thunderstorms moving over the mountains into the valley were fantastic. And it was still so hot in September that it was nice to have the mountain breeze to cool things down by midday. A wonderful, relaxing holiday and we will definitely be back.
J & S Wood - September 2009

Can i thank you for arranging both accommodation and taxi transfers all of which were excellent we had a fabulous 10 days and wished we could have stayed longer. We have all agreed that we will be back some time this year. The villa is fantastic.
D Carmell - June 2010
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay in Villa Moonflower. The house was equipped with everything we needed. Plenty of sleeping space, clean & tidy. We were pleased to find that the villa was private & not overlooked by neighbouring villas. The view is amazing, lovely to just sit on the patio or the balconies in the evening and watch the sun setting. The pool was great too and very well maintained.
The local village Uzumlu is great, very traditional. It is small but has everything you might need; shops, post office, baker, mosque, etc. For more, you can visit Fethiye, with its small backstreets, shops & harbour front. We would recommend doing so in the evening when staying at peak season, as it can be extremely hot around midday etc. Would also recommend the local bus service which is very good; both efficient & cheap. Alya, a local restaurant, is also lovely and we had a couple of nice meals there. We would definitely consider staying at Villa Moonflower again in the future

What can we say? turkey is a fabulous country the people are so friendly and helpful. Karen and Pete were a great assistance to us and really helped us out. The villa is stunning everrything we wanted and more- a definate home from home. You will leave with a tear in your eye and a smile on your face and a memory of Turkey and uzumlu in your hearts.

We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday at Villa Moonflower. The villa was fantastic a first for my wife as she couldnt think of a thing to improve it!
Dean family - July 2011
When we first visted the Villa Moonflower back in July/August 2009 we thought it had the "WOW" factor for its fantastic views, the top class standard of accommodation and the quality of the organisation and welcome from Karen and Pete. Following our second visit we now think that it has the "WOWEEE!" factor.
The Es are for:
1. The Ease of access to other stunning parts of Turkey - we had a wonderful spellbinding 3 hour drive to Pamukule and another fantastic 50 minute trip via the backroads to the Tlos.
2. The Extremely good new Alya restaurant. There are so many great places to eat that are so friendly and reasonable (Cadianda and Alya were our great favourites on this trip!)
3. Electricity - we love how the village still has a real traditional Turkish feel to it. However, we do like the luxury of air conditioning in high summer and on our last visit the regular power cuts caused quite a few problems with this. We didn't have one power cut this week and the temperature was just perfect all the time. Sadly thought I realised that in July it's far too hot to climb Ak Dag as I'd intended!!
