If the fantastic weather wasn't enough of a reason to return to Turkey, having stayed at several villas worldwide, The Lodge was a really pleasant surprise. It was absolutely spotless, very stylish and spacious. The pool area was maintained daily to a very high standard without us ever being disturbed. Our initial concerns that the pool was overlooked amounted to nothing. The villa is set in a very peaceful location with the village a short drive away and only about 30 mins to Fethiye so a car is preferable. Rob and Jen were attentive without being intrusive. Their hospitality, thoughtfulness and humour ensured our stay was thoroughly enjoyable and the comprehensive welcome pack was a unexpected bonus. We very much look forward to returning to The Lodge for another relaxing stay. Response: thanks Ian and Jo for your kind words. It was a pleasure for us aswell. Hopefully see you next year |

Well this villa, The Lodge, definitely deserves the ratings/reviews received so far. My husband and I have just returned from a superb week there and I can honestly say that the villa and amenities surpassed our expectations and we are usually quite hard to please! As we drove from the airport to Uzumlu I was beginning to wonder if we had made the right decision choosing a villa in a small traditional mountain village and as we were met at the petrol station for the final leg of the upward journey taken through the village square I thought, oh no we are in the middle of nowhere. How wrong I was. The village may be small and traditional but there are plenty of bars and restaurants to keep you busy. The people are all warm and friendly. The quality of the food was good and the prices extremely reasonable. There are a number of English ex pats living in and around the village so although you are away from the tourist spots there is still a nice familiar feeling when you are out and about. As for the Villa itself, this is to date our top rated Villa holiday. There are so many touches and niceties that combine to make it absolutely too notch. Firstly, the pictures we viewed upon booking just do not do it justice. The scenery is wonderful, the surroundings peaceful and the quality of the furniture and fittings were much better than we imagined. Everything that you can think of is already there for you including luxurious pool towels, travel plugs, phrase books, maps, CDs, DVDs, books, both a Playstation and a Wii and a huge number of games for each. Jenny even gave us a sheet with currency, distance and clothes size conversions for information. Inside and out is immaculately clean including the pool which is crystal clear. Having stayed in many villas as the week progresses you sometimes notice the pool becomes a bit murky. Not at The Lodge, it was clean and clear all week and although a little cold when you first get it, a welcome relief to the hot weather once you have swum up and down a couple of times. One of the most impressive things however, is the unbelievable 'welcome pack' that awaited our arrival. I have never seen anything like it. The fridge was stocked and there was an additional hamper with groceries that in combination ensured we hardly did any other shopping during our stay apart from more water, alcohol and sun tan lotion. And, as if that wasn't enough we were also treated to the daily bread run with gorgeous fresh baked bread and croissants and to Jenny's superb cooking which in our case included apple pie, spring rolls and Eccles cakes – yum yum. Rob and Jenny's hospitality is amazing. They are always on hand if you need them but never overly intrusive. They always offered to let us follow them if they were going out to the beach or Fethiye so we wouldn't get lost. They gave us the run down on all the local eateries, bars and local high spots. It was really a genuine pleasure to meet them and their lovely daughters and to spend time with them and at their lovely villa. As fellow Londoners we truly felt at home at The Lodge and we would not hesitate to recommend it to family and friends and really do hope to return again soon for another visit. Thanks Rob & Jen for a wonderful time. Ruth & Martin Response: Thank you so much for your kind words.we are so glad you enjoyed yourselves so much and are welcome back anytime. |

I suppose the ultimate test of how much we enjoyed ourselves would be to ask the question, 'would we come back here?' The answer is a resounding and unreserved 'yes'! We've stayed in several villas over the years and I can quite honestly say that The Lodge has ticked more boxes than any other. As Turkey virgins, even right from before we arrived at the villa, when a cheerful Rob met us on the outskirts of Üzümlü at 3 in the morning to help us find our way, things were looking distinctly rosy. Walking through the front door, we're immediately struck by the quality of the villa and the luxuriously appointed rooms, even as weary night-time travellers. Waking up the following morning to crystal clear azure skies, we check out the kitchen to find the overflowing 'welcome pack' and a generously stocked fridge. Moving on to the lounge, we find a plentiful entertainment provision in the form of local satellite TV, numerous DVDs and CDs, a Playstation 2 and Wii plus games, topped off with Scrabble, books and jigsaws. The lounge doors open on to the swimming pool and its welcome shaded seating, and glancing right we're faced with the stunning mountainous backdrop accompanied by that gloriously tranquil silence - we all know this is going to be a good week. 'Hello', a man's voice calls and there he is, Rob, dangling his daily bag of bread fresh from the village. Can this really get any better? Well, the answer to that one is also a very definite 'yes'. One wouldn't normally associate the term 'hospitality' with holiday villas, yet The Lodge has proved the exception. Having such lovely hosts, Rob and Jen, living next door and being so attentive without in any way being intrusive was a huge plus. I mean, there we were, sitting starry-eyed by the pool at lunchtime on the first day, about to tuck into Rob's fresh bread and there's Jen, armed with a plateful of freshly-made spring rolls. Over the course of the week we were treated to many more of her culinary delicacies, from apple pie and tomato flan to lemon drizzle and Eccles cakes. Their unwavering cheery outlook and nothing's-too-much-trouble approach topped off what has proved to be the perfect chill-out family holiday and the ideal antidote to the recent riots and sense of pervading gloom back home. Action-filled coastal resort or get-away-from-it-all hillside villa, it just depends on what you're looking for. For us it was definitely the latter, even though three of our party were students. We noticed that the early September heat 500 metres up in the hills was clearly tempered by a few degrees, that and the gentle breeze making its 30° that much more comfortable for sun-lovers. Having said that, sun lotions are still obligatory and, of course, if you find yourself getting too hot, just slip into the pool or take some time-out in the shelter of the comfortable poolside seating after a quick foray to the fridge for that ice-cold water or throat-biting beer. One very big plus for this time of year was the surprising absence of any insects, to the extent that sitting outside after dusk was the norm, whilst doors and windows could still be left open, as the air-conditioning wasn't essential – the tally by the end of the week was just two bites between the four of us and one of those was from a disgruntled cricket that misinterpreted my good intentions! Of course, eating out on this type of holiday is mandatory and, as luck would have it, Üzümlü has at least four reasonable restaurants around the village square and a fifth on the outskirts of the village itself, quite something for such a small community. My own recommendations would be for the Winery and the other one, whose name escapes me, but can be found in the square itself with illuminated stairs leading up to a rustic eatery set in the owners' garden – just don't be put off by the public loos immediately below! The village itself is about 2 kilometres from the villa, so unless you're planning on rapidly working off all of Jen's good food, a rental car is recommended. For this, Pegasus Rent-A-Car came up with the best deal, though you'd be advised to avoid Fiats, which seem to struggle with all but the flattest of gradients. Whilst you can go into Fethiye for provisions - Kipa alias Tesco is about 15 minutes' drive away - there are plenty of small local grocers that can provide the necessities and these are what we used. With so many historical sites and beauty spots on the tourist map to visit and the nearest beach and nightlife only 20 minutes away, yet in the end, apart from a morning trip to the blue lagoon at Ölüdeniz, we found we were more than content with the villa retreat and everything it had to offer. Thanks so much, Rob & Jen, you're a credit to the holiday villa rental industry and we hope our return won't be too far away… always assuming there are any vacancies left after these well-earned reviews make The Lodge THE destination of choice! Response: A pleasure having you stay here. You are welcome back anytime |
