The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region
The bustling town and harbour of Fethiye is 18 km away from Uzumlu and can be reached by regular dolmus or by car. Here you can stroll along the harbour, shop in the quaint bazaars, visit the famous indoor fish market for lunch or just sit, relax and watch the world go by. Visit the large outdoor market on Tuesdays and have fun bartering for all your goods.
Fethiye is a lively Turkish town of around 100,000 inhabitants. It is the perfect mix of a sophisticated and ethnic life for living and for holidays. The town has an area called Paspatur which is a bazaar area catered for the needs of all tourists with real atmosphere. The main street and all side streets are full of big and small traders in everything you can possibly imagine. Right in the centre of town is a combined permanent fish; fruit and veg market where the bargains are incredible. ASDA watch out you cannot roll back your prices this far. You can buy your fish or shellfish in the market and one of the restaurants surrounding the market will create a delicious meal for you for around £2. Tuesday is the big market day. Maybe 500 to 700 traders, all selling their wares.
Big bargains but please haggle sensibly and compare prices before you buy, great atmosphere.
Originally Fethiye was known as Termessos and there are still remains and an amphitheater from the Lycian period. Some 3 to 4000 ex-pats live in and around Fethiye permanently with this number doubling at least during spring to autumn.
Fethiye must be one of the best sailing centres anywhere in the world with steady winds, crystal clear water and the most incredible scenery.
Oludeniz- The Jewel in the Crown
The world renown resort of Olu Deniz 'the blue lagoon' with its sheltered beach and lagoon which is ideal for children and swimming, it is one of the most photographed places and is featured on the front of nearly every Turkish holiday brochure, Olu Deniz which inappropriately means dead sea is the very famous picture you will see in most advertisements for Turkey. It is very beautiful and the sea really is this colour. All around Olu Deniz are the Towering Taurus Mountains. From Babadag Mountain there is the world famous Paragliding centre, also micro lighting and Paracending.
The Uzumlu area
“Üzümlü”. It has authentic village houses, a traditional life style and local people. We believe this place will be one of the most popular spots for rural & ecological tourism in the near future. It is a big responsibility for local authorities to regulate carefully and keep the style as it was in Ottoman times.
There is the countryside ,and there is culture from ancient Cadianda and Ottoman Üzümlü to modern Yesil Üzümlü. Üzümlü village is located on a plateau, which it shares with neighbouring village of Incirkoy. Üzümlü literally translated means “ grape yard or place of grape”. As it’s name infers you will see grapevines scattered around all parts of the village and will find the locals will be happy to share their produce with you.
Incirköy means “fig village”. This village is located at the opposite side of the Üzümlü plateau.
The population of Üzümlü and Incirköy are 1765 and 971 respectively. The locals are adept at utilising the land to make their living. Produces include wine, grape-juice, vinegar, olives, olive oil, tobacco, fig and fig products as well as weaving “Dastar – scarf”.
At an altitude of more than 500 metres Üzümlü and Incirköy villages enjoy very pleasant summer nightime temperatures in marked contrast to the coast where temperatures are much higher. During the winter months, a 20-minute journey will take you towards Cameli, the beginning of the snow line, which boasts snow-peaked mountains and incredible views and where you can find many fine slopes on which to toboggan or snowboard.
The attractive rural villages of Üzümlü & Incirköy are around 15 kilometres from the coastal market town of Fethiye.
The nearest airport is Dalaman, 60 kilometres from Uzumlu or Incirköy approximately one hours travelling time. Dalaman airport is well served by tourist charter flights and by Turkish Airways.
There is a nice selection of bars and restaurants and something for everyone in Uzulmu without having to travel too far!

We stayed in Avalon Villa in September and the weather was stunning. The villa was ideally located for us with fabulous views of the mountains and a short walk to the village which gave the opportunity to meet some of the local people who were just so genuine and lovely. The villa provided everything required for a self catering holiday and was set in a lovely quiet location. The Alya restaurant, a stone's throw away, offered a wide range of local dishes that were all incredibly reasonably priced. As we were holidaying with friends, also staying in Uzumlu, we got to see lots of the surrounding area. Tlos is well worth a visit, as is Saklikent Gorge and an afternoon at Calis beach club followed by watching the sunset as we dined was just fabulous! Thank you. We will definitely recommend the villa to family and friends. Dawn & Steve Response: Thank you for your comments in regards Avalon villa, and very glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and visit and hope to see you return for another holiday in lovely Uzumlu. |

Great villa in a wonderful green location. Village people so welcoming and friendly. Only 5-10 mins walk from shops bars etc. Villa very clean, cool & airy. One complaint, beds & sofa Soooo hard, why o why is this the case in so many villas. People need comfort when going away. Anyway apart from that a great place to stay. Response: We thank you for your custom and glad you enjoyed your holiday - Uzumlu is a lovely village in Turkey. |

A great holiday. Uzumulu really unspoilt and natural. Good basic amenities and a couple of really good restaurants - especially the authentic one above the loos in the square !.
The villa was comfortable and well located. The pool was a god send as was the air con in all the rooms. The grounds and pool were well maintained - unobtrusively.
We liked the sofas in the lounge as we could recline them and really relax - however we didn't sleep on them!.
The villa was great - there was plenty of room and felt quite spacious. It was useful to have the dishwasher and washing machine handy- saved a lot of time.
The locals were friendly and we even made friends with the local cat!.
We would definitely book again if we decided to come back to this part of Turkey in the future.
Thanks for a great holiday

Villa Avalon is a lovely villa in a very good location as you are able to walk to the shops and local restaurants - we did have a car for a few days to do some sightseeing. Love Uzumlu as you get to see a different side of Turkey instead of a busy tourist resort. Will be returning next year.
Hepson Family (July 2010)
Had a lovely holiday, villa suberb, Ali the owner of a nearby restaurant was a great host and could not do enough for us - will definitely return to Uzumlu.
Tony & Jacqui (May/June 2010)
Just returned from Villa Avalon and had a wonderful time, the villa is superb and the surroundings of Uzumlu are beautiful, if anyone needs convincing of going to Uzumlu look no further than this ideally situated villa which is five minutes walk from local shops and a stones throw away from ali's restaraunt with its lovely food and very friendly atmosphere, I cant find any faults in this property or village so if this is your chosen location you would be advised to check this out !
