The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The Gard is part of Languedoc-Roussillon, which covers a large part of southern France from the Rhone valley all the way round the Mediterranean to Spain. The Gard goes from the sandy beaches of the Mediterranean, the vineyards of the Rhone valley (e.g. Châteauneuf-du-Pape) up to the sparsely populated sculpted valleys of the Ardeche and across to the moorlands of the Larzac with their flocks of sheep and world-famous Roquefort cheese. The property is located in the north of the Gard in an unspoilt region of vines, olive trees, lavender and oaks. Whilst benefiting from a dry climate, summers tend to be less "steamy" than closer to the coast, partly due to refreshing breezes. Nature lovers will be impressed by the abundant wildlife - the property is on 20 acres of land - and stargazers will adore the night skies free of any light pollution. Hikers and bikers will make the most of the hundreds of miles of signposted paths all around. Music lovers will find their favourite music be it opera (Orange), classical or modern (countless festivals in the surrounding region). There is also a world-famous theatre festival in Avignon.

Uzes

Uzès, "the first duchy of France", has been a major local landmark for over 1500 years. This beautifully renovated architectural gem was designated a "city of art and culture" in 2008. Wander through the winding medieval streets to the bustling street markets (Wednesdays and Saturdays), then stop off at one of the many outdoor cafés in the shade of 60-foot plane trees. There is so much to discover from the ducal château, the stone facades of the Renaissance houses to the old cathedral with its wonderfully renovated baroque organ.

"True Relaxation in Glorious Setting"

Perfect relaxation in a glorious setting in Provence. The colours are fantastic, especially those of the beautiful flowers around the pool. We found some great walks in the nearby forrest and watched the stars late into the night. Will certainly come back!
