The Languedoc-Roussillon region

Uzes is a medieval town and the first duchy of France. It is located in the Languedoc region, very close to the border with Provence and just down the road from the Pont du Gard.

This area is dotted with small vineyards as well as many orchards that mean locally produced wine and fruit and veg is plentiful. Large sunflower fields can be enjoyed in the Spring/Summer seasons. The climate in this part of France is generally very pleasant, with temperatures rising to the high 30s in summer.

Uzes

Uzes, known as the first duchy in France, is a charming medieval town set in the Languedoc Roussillon region in the South of France, surrounded by vineyards, sunflower fields and lavender fields. It is a bustling market town with two main markets held each week on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There are many wonderful restaurants in Uzes and the surrounding villages where you can sample the best of French and Provencal cuisine.

Uzes is also a perfect base from which to explore the surrounding countryside - visitors can hire bicycles, go horse riding, canoe down the Rive Gardon and under the Pont du Gard or go wild swimming in the river at the nearby village of Collias, about 5km from Uzes. As Uzes is in the centre of the Langudoc wine region, there are numerous vineyards in the surrounding areas where tours can be arranged to sample some of the best rose wine in France. The historic town of Nimes is 20 minutes drive away and Avignon is only 30 minutes drive away. Uzes is situated on the edge of the Langudoc Roussillon / Provence border.
