The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The Languedoc Roussillon region of Southern France curves in a great arc formation around the Mediterranean, from historical Cevennes down as far as the Pyrenees and the Spanish border. The region offers magnificent scenery, clean, uncrowded beaches with warm seas, excellent skiing & other recreational facilities, a richly diverse culture and cuisine and some excellent wines - the region borders on the southern Cotes de Rhone and a climate which boasts the highest annual sunshine average in France.

The Languedoc possesses a distinct character all of its own, quite unlike anywhere else in France. For instance, it has its own language, the langue d'oc, and for centuries enjoyed considerable independance from Paris under the rule of the local Counts.

Uzes

Uzes is a spectacular Duchy with a reining Duke and Duchess. Exciting decorator shops, Art galleries, Music festival. Dozens of bars and restaurants... A size that allows to get intimate with the quaint medieval streets packed full of history. A fabulous Saturday Market that takes over the whole town, with not only the freshest produce available, but everything else Provence is famous for. Also nearby is Avignon famous for the "Palais des Papes," its summer festival, its museums and of course its "Bridge."

In Nimes an almost intact Roman arena holds special events from Corridas (bull fights) to musical festivals.

The Pont Du Gard is a 2,000 year old, Roman-built aqueduct of grandiose proportions. One of France's most visited monuments. It can be visited by kayak after a gentle paddle down the Gardon river.

Within one hours drive :

• Arles, Orange, the Camargue.

• Les Baux de Provence.

• Marseille, Aix-en-Provence.

• The Mediterranean beaches.

• The rivers Rhône, Ardèche, and the Cèze.

• Hundreds of beautiful Provençal villages.

"Exceeded all our expectations"

The 'Joie de Vivre' tour meant we enjoyed great food, great wines, and great company. We left regretfully, feeling we'd been amongst friends who looked after us royally, and provided outings tailored to our interests and limitations! We thoroughly enjoyed our glimpse into life in a small French village.

And we so enjoyed you both Barbara & Winifred and hope to see you again in St Maximin.

"A unique and memorable experience in Provence"

Amanda, our hostess, provided us with excellent advice, recommendations of what to see and do, as well as wonderful social opportunities. She advised us of where to stay in Paris, and in Italy, and provided unique accommodation for us in Provence, all at an affordable cost. Her instructions on how to find our accommodation were extremely accurate and easy to follow. She assisted us develop a daily itinerary to meet our interests and needs. We also enjoyed her company, her hospitality and local friends. We feel we have developed a close friendship with her and her supporters which we value highly. We have recommended her website and the possibilities she offers to many friends already and can't speak highly enough of our experiences, thanks to Amanda.

What a wonderful experience I had with these two enthusiastic Kiwis who came to stay. They embraced everything I suggested and enjoyed all the local sights, foods and wines. They then popped off to Italy for a 3 day trip and stayed in a lovely Hotel in San Remo "Hotel Belle Epoque". We certainly hope they will be back with family and friends to have another 'full on' Provence Experience with their new friends in St Maximin.

"Stunning Villa, absolutely fabulous hospitality and totally laid back, perfect!!"

Amanda Taylor-Ace is a very unique and inspiring woman and having read her book I was so looking forward to meeting her and experiencing one week of life at the big Villa. Along with my husband, son and daughter came a few of their friends aged between 20 and 24. Us oldies and the young'ns could not have encountered a more beautiful or more relaxing place to eat, swim, laugh play and chill out plus at the same time enjoy Amanda and Judys wonderful hospitality and exquisite cooking. The Villa is stunning and from the moment you enter the front door, see the three level staircase, examine every individually decorated french themed room and then encounter the glorious outdoor setting and pool, you are totally mesmerised. If a holiday in bliss is possible then this is it! I'm going back, probably without the young'ns and definitely to sing a few more songs! Oh and I must mention the lovely village of Saint Maximin..yes indeed all round, amazing!!!

"This is everything one expects from a villa in the south of France and more."

The house is spectacular: the rooms are comfortable, the kitchen is wonderful (the villa is home to several cooking schools a year) and the pool is absolutely lovely. What makes the villa so special, however, is its hostess, Amanda Taylor-Ace. She is probably the premier "maitresse" in the south of France, probably in all of France (really). We have been returning to this villa--and to Amanda--for the past nine years, and every year has been an adventure, thanks to Amanda. Because she takes special interests in your needs and interests, Amanda and her villa are not to be missed.
