The Languedoc-Roussillon / Gard region

It is no surprise that the Gard welcomes so many visitors in summer and in winter. It is ideally located to attract those wishing an activity holiday, a cultural extravaganza, or a quiet place to unwind.
The Languedoc is separated into 4 departments. The Gard marks the beginning of Provence and the flora and fauna are similar with sunflowers, lavender and olive trees in evidence. In addition, the Gard is a large wine producing area and fields of vines are a dominant sight in the countryside. Notable wines being Chateauneuf du Pape, Cotes du Rhône, Tavel, Lirac.
The Garrigue (Mediterranean word for the style of vegetation and environment) has wild juniper, rosemary, cistus, thyme, and green oaks.
In addition to sampling the many local wines, there is also a wealth of locally grown produce: cherries, apricots, peaches, nectarines, melons, figs, kiwis, apples, tomatoes, asparagus, beans, aubergines, courgettes, etc.
You can decide what you want to eat on the day and buy it fresh and add a touch of olive oil and a glass of wine to make the perfect healthy lifestyle.
The Mediterranean climate has warm, dry summers and mild winters. There are 300 days of sunshine per year, thanks in part to the wind. The Mistral pushes away the clouds and keeps the area free of pollution. Due to the Mediterranean climate, the countryside is always green and a paradise for walkers 365 days of the year.
The Uzes area
The Mas des Fouzes is in a super location being in the countryside yet just 2kms from shops. There is so much to see without having to travel very far.
Uzes is a lively, medieval town - a maze of small streets and squares containing 17th and 18th century houses and approx 400 shops. It hosts a famous Saturday market under the beautiful stone arches of the Place aux Herbes and surrounding streets and sells regional fresh produce, wines, fabrics, pottery and local products. You can shop or just meander around the stalls and then enjoy a coffee and croissant or may be an aperitif before lunching in one of the many restaurants.
The property is set in a quiet location and perfect for a relaxing holiday in the large garden yet equally suited for those wishing to sightsee the riches of the area. For example, head south to Nimes or north to Orange to take in the Roman monuments. Go south to the Camargue - home to the flamingos, bulls and the white horse. North of Uzes is the stunning scenery of the valley of Ardeche and the Cevennes hills. Nearby is the roman aqueduct, the Pont du Gard, which is now a World Heritage Centre. There are popular beaches at La Grau du Roi, La Grande Motte or Sainte Marie de la Mer or the popular riverside location of Collias just 15 minutes from Uzès and noted for its kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking and other outdoor activities.
The bright lights of the Côte d'Azur are about 3 hours from Uzès via the motorway and passing through the Provence area of France.
Local events are popular and mirror the area's deep roots in tradition. Many villages celebrate their saints in the summer and bull running in the towns/villages is a local custom. The atmosphere is always convivial, colourful and a good excuse for the village folk of all ages to get together.
